"The Charles L. Blockson Exhibition: an African and Afro-American Collection," will feature portions of Charles Blockson's private collection of over 700,000 items and artifacts that are related to the global Black experience. The exhibition will make its public debut on Juneteenth weekend, in a brand new gallery space built inside the historic Centre Theater in Norristown.

Born in Norristown in 1933, Charles L. Blockson is world renowned for his expertise in Black genealogy and the Underground Railroad. His collection (featuring rare books, current periodicals, letters, photographs, artifacts and memorabilia) was amassed throughout his life-spanning career as a historian, bibliophile and author. The Charles L. Blockson Exhibition focuses on his life's work in documenting the global Black experience through history. The exhibition at the Centre Theater is made possible by Mr. Blockson, Curator Emeritus, and The Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection, Temple University.

The gift is in support of the zoo's efforts to expand its development across the Stony Creek and is one of the largest in the zoo's 97-year history.

Elmwood Park Zoo's future expansion relies on being able to access the more than 20 acres of land that run adjacent to the zoo's current footprint. And now, kids and parents alike can enjoy live entertainment at Elmwood Park Zoo every weekend throughout the summer. From musicians to magicians, Elmwood Park Zoo is hosting a variety of entertainers for unforgettable family memories.

Every Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 3 pm, families can enjoy performers on the Zoo Revue stage located across from the Zoo Brew Beer Garden and next to the bison feeding deck. Kids will be inspired to dream big by listening to young singer-songwriters like Della Lewis and dancing along to performers like Lolly & Yoyo. At these events sponsored by T-Mobile, there's truly something for everyone.

Guests can enjoy these live performances for free when they purchase regular zoo admission tickets. Families will have a full day of laughs, adventure, learning, and wonder at just one location, watching live performances from local artists and observing animals in the zoo.

Elmwood Park Zoo is committed to providing a safe experience for everyone, and that's why they are following COVID-19 health guidelines. Guests should arrive during the entry time printed on their tickets to avoid large crowds of people in one area. While inside the park, guests will be asked to observe social distancing practices. Additionally, hand sanitizing stations can be found throughout the park.

Norristown, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/28/2021 -- This summer, Elmwood Park Zoo is offering weekend events for families, couples, children, and friends of all ages to enjoy together. Start the day off right with the most important meal of the day — and enjoy it next to giraffes!

Sponsored by Genisys Credit Union, Elmwood Park Zoo's Breakfast with the Giraffes is a full breakfast featuring everyone's favorite offerings. The menu includes scrambled eggs, sausage, breakfast potatoes, waffles & toppings, fresh fruit, and cookies. Orange juice, milk, and coffee are included in the ticket price. Ticket holders can enjoy a cash bar offering beer, wine, and seltzer. Guests can opt for the champagne add-on for only $25.

Tickets for the event are purchased by table. For a table of 4, a ticket can be purchased for $134.95 for the general public. For a table of 6, tickets are available for $184.95. If the group needs to buy tickets for additional guests, tickets are available for $34.95 per person.

Yearly members receive discounted tickets; a table of 4 can be purchased for $124.95, and a table of 6 is only $175.95. Additional guest tickets can be purchased for $24.95 per person.

Children under 2 are eligible for a discounted ticket price of $10.95.

Currently, Breakfast with the Giraffes is offered on Saturday and Sunday mornings from May to September. All breakfast times start at 8:30 am and end at 9:30 am.
