TKO - A Human Experiment Misses SXSW Yet Will Pass on Austin Film Festival

Windcrest, TX -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/16/2014 -- South By South West 2014 in Austin, Texas came and went like most festivals do; during it's wake, there were performances from Justin Bieber, and even Twista who hasn't been seen in a while. There was a lot of publicity, and it was even rumored a corner store had to lock down when Jay-Z and Beyonce entered into it's store.

The film portion of the festival was also blowing up with features, documentaries, and short films. With the X-Games making an end within Austin, the next big thing will be the Austin Film Festival; so the question is why didn't TKO: An Human Experiment premiere at SXSW, and why are they choosing to pass on the Austin Film Festival?

For SXSW 2014, Ani-Flix Studios simply missed the deadline for submissions since the project was still filming in Luzhou, China. So question one is answered; what about two?

"We hadn't had too much luck with the Austin film festivals in the pass," states director Patrick Zhang. "Every year we look at the line up and we see something that wasn't like that years ago."

What Zhang is saying is back when he was a kid, film festivals were created to bring forth new and independent artist. Now and days with some film festivals such as Austin Film Festival, most of the indie-films chosen have a known name in the film: either an director, producer, or actor/actress, someone known is in the picture. It's like a popularity contest in a way.

Zhang then mentions when he met up with AFS about four years ago, they told him they were declined to premiere their short film, Get Off It at the Austin GLBT Film Festival. The short film would later premiere at the Sorin Reel Film Festival instead.

"The short film featured two Mexican actors from San Antonio. After seeing the line up of the GLBT film festival, there was a lack of diversity and they were even showing films created a few years back." Zhang explains. "I'm not implying anything but the Austin Film Festival and even the Austin GLBT Film Festival has an agenda."

Independent Film Inspired by Justin Timberlake's Hit Song, 'TKO'

Windcrest, TX -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/09/2014 -- At a sit down with the producer and director of the independent docudrama titled TKO: An Human Experiment, they discuss their reason for the title of the film. It's a film that was not only filmed in Austin, Texas but also in China. In fact, many clips of recognizable landmarks can be found in the film such as the University of Texas tower, the capital building of Austin downtown, and even the gigantic poster that is displayed on the Austin police department building.

The director, Patrick Zhang, actually suggested the interview be held at the Austin's Pizza location on Guadalupe near campus prior to the interview arrangements; he said it was convenient and because of the summer, the day time allowed for peace and serenity.

The first thing asked to them was the title of the film, TKO, and where'd it came from. "I actually got it from the song," Candice Rogers, the producer, explained, "you know, the Justin Timberlake song. It was a catchy song and the three letters correlated with the main character."

Going off topic, they spoke about the comparisons between being in Austin and the different cities in China. Zhang mentioned the similarities were there; one of them being the high amount of smokers in Beijing and in Austin. After having a good laugh, they went back to the topic. It was important to find out what exactly TKO meant. In general, it means knock out which is also the same meaning to Justin Timberlake's song, although it's more metaphorical.

"Well in the film, it means telekinesis, kinetic organism: TKO," Rogers' stated. "But we don't wanna give away too much of what the film is about. But to answer your question, that's the meaning."

New Independent Film from Texas Addresses Government Experimentations on Humans

Windcrest, TX -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/04/2014 -- All the way from Austin, Texas, TKO: An Human Experiment, is about two human experiment subjects known as "experimentees". Over time, they gain special abilities due to their experiments. The film contains action and adventure, and totally different from the coming of age genre the independent sector of Austin usually produces.

The film takes place in two countries which already sets it apart from the rest. Most independent films from Texas are set in one location due to budget, but not only does TKO take place in the United States but also thousands of miles away in China.

The teaser for the film alone is shocking; viewers can see footage of an incident that showcases an experimentee's abilities. TKO has the possibilities of being an controversial film because it brings to light an industry the general public lacks awareness of.

Ani-Flix Studios also known as AFS, collaborated with Chinese native Li Zhang to create the film. "Austin is one of the leading cities of medical and scientific research." Li says. "Many people mostly students and the homeless are the ones who go to these experiments." Zhang fails to say more about the film. "You'll just have to go and see it."
