PMS and Insomnia: What Can People Do?

Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/20/2015 -- Hormones are known as one of the many causes of the sleep disorder called insomnia. However, rarely do we hear premenstrual syndrome (PMS), which encompasses a wide variety of symptoms brought about by women's menstrual cycle, associated with this condition.

Studies show that women encounter sleeping problems two times more than men, and this is can be attributed to shifts or changes in their hormonal levels. It has been observed that, in normal healthy women, sleeplessness becomes more pronounced in the 1-2 weeks before the onset of the menstrual cycle. During this phase, progesterone becomes more active, raising the body temperature and causing difficulties in sleeping. Further, estrogen, which increases during this phase, hinders melatonin or the 'sleep hormone' from doing its job.

Kathryn Lee, a women's sleep expert and Associate Dean of Research at the University of California, San Francisco School of Nursing, explains that, during ovulation, there is a spike in the estrogen levels, followed by an increase in progesterone levels, which increases sleepiness. It isn't until a few days before the start of the next period that both estrogen and progesterone levels drastically drop. Lee says that this abrupt progesterone withdrawal causes insomnia.

Generally, low progesterone also causes the body temperature to drop. However, the accompanying drop in estrogen levels, coupled by the drastic movements of the hormones, lead to the body's temperature-regulating system to be confused. As a result, hot flashes, night sweats, sleep deprivation and insomnia episodes occur.

Fortunately, insomnia associated with PMS is not a hopeless case, since there are measures that may be taken. Tracking and monitoring one's menstrual cycles, as well as one's hormone levels, is a good way to start. Light therapy and other types of hormone therapies are also possible treatments especially in extreme cases.

Or one could concentrate on one's body's temperature levels by using tools such as the PolarGel Pillow. To promote and enhance sleep, it is important to keep the body temperature down, and this can be done by using this unique cooling pillow, which utilizes the latest cooling gel technology, effectively absorbing body heat and diffusing it throughout its extra large and extra wide 12" x 22" area. It is durable, easy to use, highly reliable, and guaranteed to give one comfort as one sleep.

Aside from women with PMS, New Home Innovations' PolarGel Pillow is also highly recommended for women in their menopausal stages.

Studies Reveal Cooling Gel Pillows Work Best for Relief from Night Sweats

Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/12/2014 -- Cooling gel pillows have been found to be most effective in providing relief from night sweats, or excessive sweating occurring during the night. Pillows that have been specifically designed to keep the body cool have been used in various applications and as treatment to other temperature-related conditions, but there is no doubt that their finest moments are when used in solving night sweating problems.

Hot flashes and other cases of high body temperature during bedtime is a common problem among millions of Americans today, but things become even more difficult when it becomes so hot it results to too much sweating, such that you end up soaking the sheets. Worse, sleep deprivation and other sleep disorders are sure to arise.

According to Dr. Dee Anna Glaser, President of the Board of Directors of the International Hyperhidrosis Society, many different medical conditions can cause night sweats. It can be due to menopause and pre-menopause, infections and inflammations, some cancers, hypoglycemia or low blood sugar, some neurologic conditions, and various types of hormone disorders.

Cooling pillows are some of the more frequently recommended solutions for hot flashes, but there are some who doubt its effectiveness when the flushing results in profuse sweating. Instead, patients who often suffer from nighttime sweating are made to crank up the air-conditioning in their bedrooms and wearing moisture-wicking and quick-drying sleeping clothes as well as quick-drying beddings.

However, most night sweats sufferers point out that these moisture-wicking and quick-drying clothes and sheets do not actually stop them from sweating. They still sweat profusely; the only difference is that the sweat dries up quickly.

The advantage of cooling pillows lies in the fact that it goes to the root of the problem: your body temperature. It regulates your internal or core temperature, so sweating is also regulated.

One product that is currently getting good reviews for its cooling properties is the PolarGel Cooling Gel Pillow. Its advanced cooling gel technology guarantees that body temperature is kept low so excessive sweating won't be a problem. There is a wider area for heat distribution and dispersion, thanks to the large size of this cooling pillow. It comes highly recommended for men and women suffering from hot flushes and night sweats.

The PolarGel Pillow is a product of New Home Innovations, and is distributed on Amazon.com

Millions of Americans Affected by Temperature Related Insomnia

Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/09/2014 -- On an annual average, 60 million Americans suffer the symptoms of the sleep disorder more popularly known as insomnia. This disorder describes the condition where a person has a difficult time falling asleep or, even if he or she managed to fall asleep initially, sustaining it is another issue altogether.

Some of the many causes of insomnia are stress, depression, anxiety, certain medical conditions, some medications, changes and shifts in one's hormone levels, and poor lifestyle choices. It is also, almost often, associated with aging, which explains why men and women approaching their andropause and menopause stage often experience its symptoms.

One of the symptoms of insomnia that causes a huge problem among patients are hot flashes, or unexpected warmth or heat in different parts of their body, and excessive sweating throughout the night. This type of insomnia is largely related to temperature issues.

When dealing with temperature related insomnia, experts underlined the difference between skin temperature and core temperature. Skin temperature is superficial, affected by environmental heat and cold, as well as other factors such as posture, lighting, nutritional health, anxiety and pain. Core body temperature, on the other hand, is the body's internal temperature. In order to promote sleep, it's not just the skin temperature that should be kept low, but also the core temperature.

The obvious solutions suggested to deal with temperature related insomnia include seeking medical attention, where patients are likely to be prescribed with sleeping medications. Simple actions, such as controlling the room temperature and exercising 5 to 6 hours before bedtime, are also highly recommended. Sleeping aids such as cooling mats and pads, as well as cooling sprays and gels are also useful in regulating one's body temperature.

New Home Innovations has just recently come up with a new tool to combat insomnia, particularly for those having to deal with heat-related discomfort, hot flashes, and night sweats. It is called the PolarGel Pillow, a cooling gel pillow that features the latest technology in cooling gels. It comes in a size that is large enough to provide greater coverage than regular cooling pillows or cooling pads. Hot and cold spots are also prevented from forming, since the gel was designed to distribute body heat evenly throughout the pillow. The gel is also formulated so that it remains below the room temperature, and effectively keeps the patient's skin and core temperature lowered.

New Home Innovations' PolarGel Pillow is distributed by Amazon.com

The Relationship Between Insomnia and Body Temperature

Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/08/2014 -- Among the many causes and noted symptoms of insomnia, it is noticeable how most of them are temperature-related. This has led to several studies that aim to dig deeper into the relationship between insomnia and body temperature.

Insomnia is more properly defined as the deficiency in quality and quantity of sleep by a person, the effects of which interfere with his or her normal functioning during the day. Essentially, it is either experienced as difficulty in falling asleep (sleep onset insomnia) or difficulty in staying asleep (sleep maintenance insomnia).

Sleep experts suggest that keeping cool during bedtime is key to getting a deeper and more restful sleep. Therefore, one should put one's room's thermostat to work, or invest in a more reliable air conditioning system for one's room. However, it must be noted that, more than the room temperature, the real issue here is body temperature or, more specifically, the core temperature.

In a clinical review by Leon Lack and company, they said that "sleepiness and sleep propensity are strongly influenced by our circadian clock as indicated by many circadian rhythms, most commonly that of core body temperature". Onset insomnia, which is the more common type of insomnia, occurs because of a delayed temperature rhythm, while maintenance insomnia has been associated with elevated core body temperature during nighttime.

The experts at the University of South Australia's Centre for Sleep Research are in agreement, saying that "temperature regulation is a significant factor in each of the two types of insomnia." Onset sleep insomniacs have trouble falling asleep because they have a higher core temperature just before they are supposed to go to sleep. They need to give their body enough time to lose the heat that is keeping them awake, and this process does not happen quickly, resulting to the hours and hours of lost sleep.

Clearly, adjusting the room temperature is not enough. Cooling aids for sleeping are going to play a major role, because of their proximity to the body's core, allowing them to do their jobs better. The Polar Gel Pillow is one such cooling aid that proves to be effective in regulating the body's core temperature, and an effective tool to combat insomnia. It makes use of advanced cooling gel technology, which easily absorbs and disperses body heat, while comfortably molding and conforming to one's body shape.
PolarGel Pillow is a product of New Home Innovations, and is now available for purchase on Amazon.com

Human Cooling Pillow Appropriate for Pet Use

New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/27/2014 -- Those who are contemplating whether or not they can use a human cooling mat for pets no longer have to worry, because it has been proven that human cooling pillows are appropriate for pet use. This is because the principle behind the products is the same, regardless of the end user. They are designed to keep the body temperature low, may it be that of a pet or its human master.

Dogs, in particular, are known to have higher body temperature than humans, with their normal temperature set at 101.5 degrees Fahrenheit, compared to 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit in human adults. Any higher than 101.5 degrees is already considered uncomfortable and may be an indicator of more serious health problems for pets. Add in the fact that dogs do not sweat, and they will need more ways to stay cool and comfortable, especially during the hot summer days.

This is where the various pet cooling products come in, ranging from cooling dog beds and cooling pet pads and mats that make use of cooling gel, water, or improved air flow technologies. Unfortunately, not all pet owners are happy with the quality of most pet cooling pads, beds or mats in the market today. Aside from the fact that they are a bit on the expensive side, their quality tends to be low. That is why they now turn to human cooling pillows as an alternative.

Human cooling pillows are designed to specifically cater to the needs as well as high standards of quality of humans. Thus, they are more durable and made to provide maximum comfort while providing relief from heat. An excellent example is the PolarGel Pillow, one of the most recent releases from New Home Innovations.

While it is true that the PolarGel Pillow is designed primarily for human use, it has also been considered as an appropriate cooling device for pets. The first reason is with its size. Since it comes in an extra large size, it can easily be a cooling bed for pets. Another reason is the reliability of the gel cooling technology that is used in the pillow. It dissipates heat from the pet's body and diffuses it away from them, so even pets will not be subjected to hot spots.

The durability of the PolarGel Pillow is also guaranteed, from the nontoxic and soft fabrics and materials used to the seam stitching, so it won't be easily ruined even when pets use it. The PolarGel Pillow is now available for sale at Amazon.com.

Cooling Gel Pad Shown to Be Effective in Relieving Hot Flashes

New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/27/2014 -- People experiencing hot flashes, particularly during nighttime, can now find relief in one of the newest innovations when it comes to body temperature control: cooling pillows. Not only can they keep unwelcome heat and excessive nighttime sweating away, they will also ensure that you get a good night's sleep.

Having hot flashes is certainly not the most comfortable experience, especially when it results to you getting soaked in sweat, not to mention your sheets and bed. Worse, it can deprive you of much needed sleep and even lead to sleep disorders, such as insomnia.

Hot flashes are most commonly seen in women who are experiencing hormone level changes and/or menopause. Similarly, men are not spared of this condition, since they also experience hot flashes when their testosterone levels drop below normal.

Regardless of what causes hot flashes, there are a number of remedies that are now available to provide relief from such episodes. Lifestyle changes, such as avoiding stress, smoking and certain types of food, as well as increasing the amount of exercise and physical activity, are highly recommended by sleep experts. Sleep doctors also have prescription therapies such as hormone therapies and nonhormonal medications specifically designed to keep hot flashes at bay. In some instances, they also offer nonprescription remedies, such as herbs or acupuncture.

Cooling pillows may only be coming on the heels of other innovative products such as wicking sleepwear and bed linens, and cooling sprays and gels, but they have proved to be very effective in relieving hot flashes. They dispense with the need to flip the pillow throughout the need to find the cooler side, since they already make use of various cooling technologies that ensure they remain below room temperature.

New Home Innovations' offering, the PolarGel Pillow, is a perfect example of a highly effective cooling gel pad. It combines the cooling benefits of cooling gel and the comfort of a soft and durable pillow. Its extra large size also ensures that it can cover as much area as possible, and there is a wider area for your body heat to disperse. Thus, there is no need to worry over hot or cool spots when using this unique pillow. For cooler results, it can even be refrigerated for 1 to 2 hours before use.

Interested buyers may now purchase the PolarGel Cooling Pillow on Amazon.

Getting to the Core of Insomnia - PolarGel Pillow Is Now Available for Temperature Related Insomnia

New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/26/2014 -- Sometimes, in order to solve a persistent problem, the only thing to do is to tackle it head on, and attack it at its core. To handle and eliminate the symptoms, the cause must be targeted. That is the approach taken by many sleep doctors and experts when it comes to dealing with insomnia.

Insomnia is widely known as the inability to go to sleep. However, this sleeping disorder is more serious than people originally think. Affecting millions of Americans and causing significant disturbances in health and one's overall lifestyle, insomnia can be classified into two broad categories. Sleep onset insomnia is the difficulty to fall asleep; those who do manage to fall asleep but wake up frequently throughout the night are experiencing sleep maintenance insomnia. Recently, a third type of insomnia has been named, which is characterized by waking up too early and having difficulty going back to sleep. This is referred to as "early awakening insomnia".

There are many treatments for insomnia that are coming out in the market, ranging from medicines and food supplements to different types of sleeping aids. In extreme cases, different types of therapies are recommended. However, there is no treatment that works for everyone. Just because one treatment works for one does not mean it would work for everyone.

Sleep experts put emphasis on the importance of understanding the specific causes of insomnia among people. Acute and chronic insomnia can be caused by depression and anxiety, stress brought on by major life changes or upheavals, environmental factors such as light, noise or temperature shifts, certain types of medication, or other health conditions.

One of the most common causes of sleep disorders, not just insomnia, is extreme temperatures, particularly extreme heat. The body is programmed to sleep better under cool temperature, so when it is too warm, chances are the person won't be able to get any sleep.

Cooling aids are not just helpful in warding off hot flashes and providing relief from night sweats. They also ultimately aim to promote a more restful and deeper sleep. One such cooling aid, the PolarGel Pillow, is a cool gel pad for temperature related insomnia. It works by using advanced cooling gel technology to absorb body heat and disperse it away from the body. This way, the body's core temperature is regulated, and quality sleep can be obtained.

PolarGel Pillow is a product of New Home Innovations, and is now available on Amazon.com.

Sleep Aid Tools Proven to Help Fight Insomnia

New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/22/2014 -- With millions of Americans (and all over the world) suffering from the infamous sleep disorder known as insomnia, scientific and creative minds are constantly churning out ideas on how to beat this problem. Depending on the identified cause of sleeplessness, various sleep treatments have been developed and a multitude of sleep aid tools have been invented, all of which are aimed at improving the quality (and quantity) of sleep that a person gets.

Insomnia caused by poor diet calls for a lifestyle change, particularly on the person's eating habits and the type of food that he or she eats. People suffering from stress-induced insomnia, on the other hand, are prescribed medication, behavioral therapies, or simple relaxation techniques to overcome the root of the problem. There are even sleep aids that can be worn around the wrist, or placed around pulse points to regulate blood flow and circulation, promoting sleep. Insomnia that is caused by a variety of environmental factors such as lighting and loud noise is solved by making the necessary changes in the bedroom, or the exact location where sleep takes place.

In the case of insomnia brought about by high temperatures, many sleep aid tools have also been developed, and one of the most current (and popular) ones is the cooling pillow. The latest cooling pillows now boast gel technology to produce that soothing, cooling effect. PolarGel Pillow was designed by New Home Innovations to have the latest cooling gel technology to guarantee results.

Does the PolarGel Pillow, and other cooling gel pillows for that matter, really work? The PolarGel cooling pillow's gel technology eliminates the need for constant flipping throughout the night just to find a cool spot. Body heat is absorbed and evenly dispersed throughout the pillow, which measures 12" x 22" – bigger and wider than one's average cooling pillow!

Admittedly, PolarGel Pillow, which one can purchase off Amazon, does not come cheap. While it is true that there are cheaper options out there, New Home Innovations puts emphasis on reliability, durability and performance for every PolarGel Pillow they manufacture. Cheap cooling pillows can provide relief but, more often than not, the relief is temporary and they would not last a long time. Invest in a quality cool gel pillow; it may be more expensive by several dollars, but one can benefit in the long run, with the lasting relief that one seek.

Fever, Night Sweats and Insomnia Are Now Resolved with Cool Mat Pillow

New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/22/2014 -- High temperature has a major adverse effect to one's sleeping patterns, and the most common conditions associated with this sleep disruption are fever, night sweats and insomnia.

Fever, which can be caused by viral infections, allergies, drug reactions, and various types of disorders, often lead to sleeplessness, mainly due to the discomfort brought on by extremely high body temperature. This poses a dilemma, since it has been proven that sleep is one of the best ways for the body to have a better fever response and heal itself. According to Dr. Diwakar Balachandran, director of the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center's Sleep Center, sleep is very important since it helps the body wage war against infections. But since fevers tend to rise at night, sleep also tends to be elusive.

Similarly, night sweats also have the same effect on sleep that fever does, although this time, it is characterized by excessive sweating to the extent of soaking beddings and sheets. One study performed on adult primary care patients indicated that 41% experience night sweats on a regular basis. Their sleep becomes disturbed frequently during the night because their clothes, as well as their beds, are soaked with their sweat.

Insomnia is quite possibly the most well-known and common type of sleeping disorder, and it can be caused by a wide variety of reasons. Temperature-related insomnia occurs both before and during sleep, aptly named Onset Insomnia and Maintenance Insomnia, respectively. Because of too much heat in the body, people lose sleep and develop into a more serious case of insomnia.

Coping with fever, night sweats and insomnia is the goal of many sleep experts and doctors as they go about looking for ways to provide tools that will regulate body temperature. More often than not, taking sleep medication does make one sleep, but does not improve sleep quality. Extreme cases also often call for behavioral and, sometimes, hormone therapies, which may not be applicable if the problem is a simple fever.

The solution may be something as simple as a cool mat pillow. But it's not just any pillow, since there are now cooling pillows that can regulate body temperature and prevent night sweats, while ensuring that one get a deeper and more restful sleep. The PolarGel Pillow is one such pillow, constructed with cooling gel technology and high quality materials that make it durable despite repeated and prolonged use.

The PolarGel Pillow is now available on Amazon, and is a product of New Home Innovations.

Hot Flashes and Their Effects on Sleep

New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/19/2014 -- Contrary to popular belief, having hot flashes is not a condition, but a symptom of hormonal imbalance or shifts, particularly among women in their menopausal stage. It varies in severity, from moderate flushing or mild warmth and redness of the face, neck or body, to night sweats that leave the clothes and sheets soaked with sweat. It may not affect the total sleep time, but the overall quality and efficiency of sleep ultimately suffers.

In related literature released by the National Sleep Foundation, it was reported that women undergoing menopause report the most sleeping problems, and hot flashes are among the main culprits. Statistics show that 75% to 85% of women around menopause suffer from hot flashes, and a large number of them suffer severe night sweats.

Hot flashes occurring at night not only cause discomfort but also rob women of much needed sleep, leaving them exhausted and worn out the next day. It has been revealed in several clinical and sleep studies that, in order to get quality sleep, the temperature must be kept cool.

Various treatments have been formulated for hot flashes. Both nonprescription remedies and prescription therapies have been developed to reduce the occurrence of hot flashes, but they work only up to a certain extent, and only provide momentary relief. Medications, on the other hand, are not only costly, but they also pose the risk of exposure to different side effects.

Taking sleeping medications is an option often suggested by some sleep therapists, but people who are averse to taking medication of any kind need not worry that they would have to suffer through severe hot flashes and poor sleep quality. Cooling products, such as sprays, gels, wicking sleepwear and cooling sheets and mats are now available. There are also a number of cooling pillows being introduced lately.

In the company's opinion, the best cooling gel pillow is the PolarGel Pillow from New Home Innovations. It is made from non-toxic, safe, and durable materials, and features the latest and most advanced cooling gel technology. It is large enough to fit in any pillow case, or simply placed atop another pillow. Since it is designed to follow the contour of the person's head, neck, shoulders, and body, it effectively disperses heat and remains cool.

The PolarGel Pillow is guaranteed to remain below room temperature, but it is so versatile that it can also be refrigerated to keep the temperature lower and make the coolness last longer. This makes it perfect even for those who are suffering from the most severe night sweats.

This unique pillow can now be purchased on Amazon.

Cooling Pillows Found to Ease Insomnia

New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/15/2014 -- Temperature, specifically high temperature, has been identified as one of the major causes of insomnia, the sleep disorder characterized by difficulty in falling, and staying, asleep. Sleep doctors often advise their patients complaining of insomnia to check whether their sleeping conditions are subjected to too hot or too cold temperatures. More often than not, the solution to insomnia is very simple: all that is needed is to regulate one's body temperature during nighttime.

Biology professor H. Craig Heller, Ph.D., of Stanford University referred to a person's internal thermostat, or the innate tendency of the body temperature to go down in order to achieve the temperature set by the brain. The difficulty in sleeping arises when the body struggles to meet this set temperature. In one research on the relationship between temperature and insomnia, it was revealed that cooling the head helped chronic insomniacs fall asleep at a faster rate, and enabled them to sleep for longer periods. The research entailed the use of cooling caps which were worn by the subjects while sleeping.

But better alternatives are now coming out to achieve the same results. Cooling sheets, mats and bed linens are now being introduced and touted as the solution to all temperature related sleeping disorders. Cooling pads and packs are also being inserted inside pillow cases, or used as pillows in order to keep the head, and the whole body, cool.

Unfortunately, the complaints against these cooling pads and packs have something to do with comfort. They are often too small or too lumpy, causing pain on the neck and shoulders. This resulted to the manufacture of large cooling pillows – effective solutions that address both the sleep disorder and the comfort issue in one fell swoop.

A great example of these large and comfortable cooling pillows is the PolarGel Pillow. Designed and manufactured by New Home Innovations, it makes use of the latest in cooling gel technology to provide the relief needed for extreme heat, hot flashes and even nighttime sweats. The gel, coupled with the high quality cotton and other materials used, combine to bring insomniacs comfort and the right temperature to achieve deep, uninterrupted, and satisfying sleep. It comes in an extra large size, measuring 12 inches by 22 inches, ensuring a wider area for heat dispersion. PolarGel Pillow can be purchased from Amazon.com.

New Cool Gel Pillow Helps in the Relief of Late Night Hot Flashes

New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/30/2014 -- Late night hot flashes can become extremely uncomfortable and lead to sleep deprivation and inefficiency, as well as more serious sleep disorders. No wonder there is a continuous hunt among those who suffer from this problem for the best tool that actually helps in the relief of late night hot flashes. A new cooling pillow from the innovative team of New Home Innovations might just be the one to put an end to the search.

The new cooling pillow is aptly named Polar Gel Pillow, since it effectively keeps the body temperature low, maintaining it at a level that is lower than the current room temperature in the bedroom. It utilizes the latest in cooling gel technology, which distributes and disperses heat evenly throughout its 12" x 22" area. This means there is no longer a need for frequent flipping throughout the night to avoid hot spots. It adheres to the contours of the body for maximum comfort, providing a most restful and deeper sleep.

Another advantage of the Polar Gel Pillow is its superior workmanship, it can be seen in the highest quality, non-toxic materials used and the solid construction. There won't be any worries about fraying or the seams giving way.

Sometimes, late night hot flashes can go to the extreme, so regular cooling pillows will not enough to keep from experiencing night sweats. The Polar Gel Pillow shows its versatility in this respect; just pop it inside the fridge for about an hour or two, and the cooling effect is more effective and lasting.

Admittedly, this is not the first cooling sleeping aid designed for hot flashes and various sleep disorders to hit the market. There are now cooling bed linens and wicking sleepwear available. This is also not the first cooling pillow to be introduced since there are now several cooling pillows, each with their own distinct features that are meant to deal with high body temperatures. Some patients even improvise and create their own cooling pillows, by putting ice packs or cooling gel packs inside pillowcases, or atop their regular pillows before going to sleep.

For more effective results, however, it is wiser to invest in cooling pillows that are guaranteed to keep one cool through those late night hot flashes and night sweats.

The Polar Gel Pillow is now being sold by New Home Innovations on Amazon.com.

New Home Innovations Launches a Cooling Pillow, PolarGel Pillow, for Deeper and More Restful Sleep

New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/14/2014 -- Sleeping problems and other serious sleeping disorders can be attributed to a number of factors, and one of them is extreme temperatures: extremely hot and extremely cold. PolarGel™ has come up with a solution to high temperatures affecting the quality of sleep with the PolarGel Pillow, a cooling pillow that makes use of the latest and most advanced cooling gel technology. It is sold exclusively by New Home Innovations and distributed by Amazon.com.

The need to keep things cool during bedtime is more apparent for women since, unlike men, their body temperatures vary depending on their menstrual cycles. They are more prone to hot flashes, which become more rampant once they reach their menopausal stage. Hot flashes, further aggravated by a high room temperature, can cause sleep interruptions, leading to bigger problems such as insomnia and even anxiety and depression.

According to W. Christopher Winter, MD, of the Charlottesville Neurology and Sleep Medicine Centre in Virginia, the right temperature for sleeping is "typically a bit on the cool side", which is anywhere between 65 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Any temperature exceeding 75 degrees will cause discomfort and disrupt one's sleep. Michael J. Breus, author of Good Night: The Sleep Doctor's 4-Week Program to Better Sleep agrees, but lowered the figure a bit. He said that the "optimal" temperature for great sleep is between 68 and 72 degrees. Both estimates are assumed to be generalizations, as they made no mention of whether or not women's unique hormonal make-up were taken into consideration.

The usual solutions turned to during these times include cranking up the A/C, taking cool showers before bed, frequent sipping of ice cold water, and placing a cool and wet towel on the forehead to absorb body heat. The PolarGel Cooling Pillow dispenses with the need for any of these so-called "fixes", as it helps disperse body heat throughout its 12" x 22" area, regulating body temperature, and aids in achieving a deeper and more restful sleep.

PolarGel™'s move to use cooling gel in this unique pillow enables it to stay at a temperature that is below the current room temperature. However, for extreme situations where there is a need for lasting coolness, it can be lowered even more by putting the PolarGel Pillow in the refrigerator.
