Dr. Busch of NKC Dental Is Aware of Gluten Intolerance

Kansas City, MO -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/04/2016 -- If you have gluten intolerance, it is taking a toll on your teeth. A 2016 study published in The European Journal of Oral Sciences confirmed that gluten causes the body to produce an immune reaction against a main protein responsible for creating tooth enamel. "The outside protective layer of teeth is enamel and is what makes teeth bright and shiny. The absence of it causes an excess of cavities, tooth wear, tooth loss and infection," comments Dr. Busch.

Researchers found that gluten sensitive patients carry antibodies that fight against a protein present in wheat gluten and other grains. Once triggered, the antibodies then react with a major enamel protein produced by the human body.

At this point, the only effective way for a gluten-sensitive person to prevent a flare-up is by avoiding all foods containing gluten. "Here at NKC Dental, we stay on top of the latest scientific findings on oral health and are aware of the negative effects of gluten intolerance. If gluten sensitivity is confirmed in children, regular checkups are essential to prevent severe oral damage. You may want to consult with us if you or your family has gluten intolerance," remarks Dr. Tucker VanYperen.

"To the best of our knowledge, GC America Products, which we use, do not contain gluten or gluten derivatives. It is always possible that natural-derived chemicals may contain trace amounts, especially alcohols. In our case, when we do use alcohols, they are denatured and therefore, are even less likely to be contaminated with gluten or its derivatives," states Dr. William Busch.

What's the difference between celiac disease, gluten intolerance, non-celiac gluten sensitivity and wheat allergy? We use "wheat tolerance syndrome" when referring to the entire category of gluten issues: celiac disease, non-celiac gluten sensitivity and wheat allergy. Celiac disease does more than just damage enamel. It has been linked to severe redness at the back of the throat, bad breath, canker sores, metallic taste in the mouth, and inflammatory gum disease.

NKC Dental Offers CEREC One Visit Crowns

Kansas City, MO -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/14/2016 -- It used to be an inconvenience to get a crown placed. The X-rays, the trays full of goop that made everyone gag. It felt like all the teeth were coming out when they pulled the tray out, plus at least two visits to the dentist's office. The final step was to get a temporary crown that tasted and felt like aluminum foil.

Dr. Busch comments, "Then the patient would have to schedule a second appointment to get the permanent crown placed, which meant another injection and grinding the crown to get it to fit well." Fortunately that is no longer the scenario with CEREC one-visit crowns.

Dr. Busch provides patients with the latest technology in same-day crowns, fillings and restoring teeth with CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics). "It's a new system for making porcelain crowns, inlays, onlays or repairing veneers during one visit. The procedure takes approximately two hours from start to finish," remarks Dr. Busch. The CEREC system incorporates a camera, a computer and milling machine in just one piece of technology thanks to CAD-CAM, the software that works with the system.

Dr. Bill Busch and Dr. Tucker VanYperen have made the investment in CEREC® digital dentistry and getting a crown has never been easier. The system can cost-effectively restore damaged teeth in just one visit. "Matching the crown to the natural color of the other teeth is extremely important, which is why we use a high-quality ceramic material," remarks Dr. Van Yperen. To obtain an accurate picture of the damaged tooth they use a special camera. The optical impression is transferred and displayed on a full spectrum color computer where the doctors put into motion the CAD technology to design the restoration. From there, CAM takes over the procedure and automatically creates the restoration while the patient waits.

In the final stage, Dr. Busch or Dr. VanYperen bonds the new crown to the surface of the old tooth. The complete process takes about two hours and the patient leaves the office with a new crown and no return visits.

Dr. Busch is regarded as an opinion-leader by his peers and professionals in the dental industry.Dr. VanYperen enjoys all aspects of dentistry, with a special interest in restoring function and aesthetics.

Dr. William Busch Is First Dentist in USA to Offer EVisit for His Patients

Kansas City, MO -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/15/2016 -- Dr. Busch of NKC Dental wants his patients to be able to access him at any time when they have dental problems. He is the first dentist in the U.S. to offer eVisit to his dental patients. eVisit is an inexpensive, convenient and secure dental appointment alternative available to patients who are either in pain at 4:30 am or need a dental consultation from a thousand miles away.

eVisit is recognized in the medical community as an acceptable and less costly alternative to long, late-night visits to the ER. Hundreds of physicians across the country have been using this service for their patients who might otherwise have made a 4-hour trip to the emergency room.

"At NKC Dental we are happy to be the first to offer this progressive form of care. From late-night consults to procedural after-care questions, this easy-to-use, HIPAA compliant, virtual visit will save our patients' time, money and hassle," states Dr. Busch. If a current patient of Dr. Busch needs him and has a mobile device with Internet connection, webcam and a microphone, in three clicks or less his patient can receive the face-to-face care they need. Dr. Busch can see and hear his patient and will be able to adjust care accordingly.

When asked about long-distance care, Dr. Busch chuckled saying, "Yes, I expect that at some time, I will be advising one of our patients from halfway around the world."

An eVisit is like an online dental clinic that provides quick online care for common dental problems. The patient dials in and answers a series of questions about their symptoms using their cell phone. Then Dr. Busch reviews the information and provides a diagnosis and treatment plan, including any necessary prescriptions, within one hour. According to Dr. Busch, he will be available for eVisits seven days a week, 365 days a year including holidays, evenings and weekends.

Dentists Shut Down Shop and Open Up at Arrowhead Stadium Tower Club

Kansas City, MO -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/02/2015 -- On Tuesday October 20th, 2015, 268 underserved children received $129,980.00 worth of dental care during the 10th annual "Kansas City Oral Health Care Day".

Dustin Colquitt the Kansas City Chiefs punter who has been involved with TeamSmile for over 10 years and hasn't forgotten his initial inspiration. In 2005, in Baltimore, there was a boy in the inner city that had a toothache, who complained about it and ended up having a bacterial infection. The young boy went into cardiac arrest and passed away. Dr. Bill Busch of NKC Dental located in Kansas City, MO knew the power of Colquitt's potential reach as a member of the Chiefs; Busch called Colquitt. "There's a kid who ended up passing away, he had a toothache. We can't let this happen again. Are you in?" Busch asked Colquitt.

Joined by linebacker Justin Houston, kicker Cairo Santos and wide receiver Jason Avant, Colquitt among others, TeamSmile and United Way held their 10th "dental party" in as many years, providing complimentary dental care to children in need. "This is a great thing," Avant said. "I wish they would have had this service when I was kid." He added, "These kids having this opportunity is great and this is a great event, one of the best I've ever been to."

United Way partners with TeamSmile to supply the necessary equipment and machinery to pull off an event of this magnitude. "Our work really focuses around four core areas of need in the community—poverty, literacy, career-readiness and well being," said Sean Wheeler, the senior vice president of marketing and communications for United Way.

Upon arrival, each child meets with one of 15 dentists who have agreed to shut down their personal offices for the day in order to volunteer at Arrowhead Stadium. They perform cleanings and some cosmetic procedures as well as preventive measures to ensure the kids will have good oral health.

Dr. Busch Awarded the Community Service Buck O'Neil Award

Kansas City, MO -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/08/2015 -- On August 16th 2015 at the Kauffman Stadium at a baseball game between the Kansas City Royals and the Los Angeles Angels Dr. Busch was awarded the Community Service Buck O'Neil Award from the KC Royals.
The TeamSmile event that prompted this honor was held on July 17 with the Kansas City Royals baseball team at Kauffman Stadium. Under-served children were provided with free dental care with 232 kids being treated. This amounted to $106,400 of dental and preventive care.

Dr. Busch of NKC Dental started the TeamSmile program 10 years ago with Kansas City Chiefs Pro-Bowl punter Dustin Colquitt and Jason Krause of Henry Schein Dental to get our nation's children the smiles that they deserve. They are working with under-served children of Kansas City, treating them to eight years of free dental treatment and dental fitness education with the help of local dentists and volunteers.

TeamSmile is based out of Kansas City, but travels to bring their program to professional sports teams throughout the nation.
TeamSmile Provides Dental Services to Underserved Children

Kansas City, MO -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/23/2015 -- It is a well-known fact that many children shy away from visiting the dentist due to dental anxiety. To combat this, Dr. Bill Busch of NKC Dental created and co-founded TeamSmile, a nonprofit dental organization whose mission is to build partnerships between oral health professionals and professional athletic organizations.

TeamSmile provides underserved children with a life-changing dental experience in which the excitement and allure of high-profile sports reinforces the value of a life-long commitment to dental health care.

Dr. Busch noticed that even dental-phobic children would get excited about going to a sports stadium to receive dental care because they knew they would also get to meet players, cheerleaders, and mascots from the team.

"I believe that most children are familiar with their hometown sports teams," says Dr. Busch, "and they look up to the players on these teams. I created TeamSmile because I realized that if we could take the spirit behind sport organizations and add it to a dental outreach event, we would create an experience that would actually make children want to visit the dentist."

On April 7, TeamSmile headed out to Utah to provide dental treatment for underserved children in the area. This was done in partnership with Utah Jazz, an American professional basketball franchise based in Salt Lake City.

Eight dentists, 16 dental assistants, 10 dental hygienists and 25 volunteers teamed up for the event, which was a resounding success. TeamSmile served 198 children that day, providing $98,430 worth of treatment. They accomplished 101 fillings, 114 sealants, 41 extractions and two pulpotomies (removal of infected portions of the pulp tissue to prevent loss of the tooth).
Dr. Busch is among a select group of dentists in the country who have achieved Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry.

Lecture by Dr. Busch Highlights Breakthroughs in Dental Universe

Kansas City, MO -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/24/2015 -- On February 27, 2015, Dr. Bill Busch of NKC Dental spoke at the 150th Chicago Mid-Winter Meeting. Lecturing on the subject of Digital Dentistry, his audience included 300 of his peers in the dental field, who watched as he performed a live demonstration on a patient that had a single-visit crown restoration done with PlanScan. The Chicago Mid-Winter Meeting saw over 25,000 attendees in total.

"Digital dentistry provides your patient a better dental experience," Dr. Busch emphasized during the lecture. Joined by Gary Kaye and Sherri White, the team presented an entire program focused on the advantages of digital dentistry. The program provided the entire group of dental professionals a game plan to administer more predictable, profitable and proficient dentistry through digital technology.

Seeing the entire gamut of digital technologies from patient awareness and marketing, through digital diagnosis to digital treatment gave the participating audience a complete experience as they saw firsthand the scanning, designing and delivery of final restorations for the live patient.

The CAD/CAM Solution, driven by E4D Technologies, provides everything a dentist needs to deliver better dentistry. Dr. Busch designs and creates digital models with Planmeca CAD/CAM and shares cases with Planmeca Romexis Cloud.

Planmeca PlanScan captures the oral environment with precision. Each scanner comes with three removable tips, power cable and scanner cradle. The two-piece cradle features a weighted base and can be wall-mounted or separated to fit into a standard hand-piece caddy.

An experienced speaker, Dr. Busch lectures and writes about state-of-the-art dentistry all over the world in order to encourage dentists to provide the latest dental techniques for their patients. He is among a select group of dentists around the country who have achieved Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry. They apply a controlled amount of force to the teeth, forcing them to shift. Every two weeks, the trays are switched out for a new set that will apply slightly more force until the teeth are eventually straightened perfectly.

Porcelain crowns can restore and enhance teeth that are damaged. According to Dr. Busch, "If a tooth has had a large filling replaced more than a couple of times, it may be a good idea to think about getting a crown for it. With every filling replacement, the good part of the tooth is reduced and the filling will cause the tooth itself to start breaking off."

A porcelain bridge is a great way to fill the space caused by a missing tooth or teeth. Porcelain crowns are constructed on either side of the missing tooth to support a false tooth, which is built to fit between them.

Dental implants require patients to have healthy gums and a strong jawbone to support the implant. An implant consists of a titanium root that is surgically implanted in the jawbone and, when healed, receives a crown atop the post.
Dr. Busch is one of a select group of dentists around the country who have achieved Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry. This award symbolizes his lifelong pursuit of continuing education to provide the highest quality dental care to his patients.

Dr. Busch Opts for Dental Implants for His Patients

Kansas City, MO -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/08/2014 -- Before the development of dental implants, a patient with a missing tooth or teeth had only two options: either get a dental bridge or do nothing about it. Neither solution was ideal, as dental bridges require one more tooth on either side of the missing tooth to be sacrificed, while ignoring the problem meant having to put up with poorer oral function, diet and general health. Today, Dr. Bill Busch recommends dental implants as the most effective, practical and aesthetically pleasing means of tooth restoration.

Some of the reasons behind tooth loss are poor dental hygiene, periodontal (gum disease), tooth decay, injury or chronic illnesses such as diabetes or cancer. Certain prescription drugs and over-the-counter medication may also cause gum disease, ushering in more serious dental problems that could eventually lead to tooth loss.

"Dental implants offer a long-term replacement solution that is suitable for people of all ages and in various states of oral health," states Dr. Busch. Dental implants are 'tooth roots' made from titanium, which is non-allergenic and is as strong as steel but considerably less dense. The procedure of inserting dental implants is relatively straightforward. After the socket is cleared of any remaining tooth particles or roots, the 'tooth root' is inserted into the jawbone, where it sits for three to six months until it bonds with the underlying bone.

While the dental implant is incubating, Dr. Busch can prepare a temporary crown to be placed on the 'tooth root' so the patient does not have to feel self-conscious about the gap in their teeth. Once the dental implant has fused with the jawbone, this makeshift crown is replaced with a permanent one. Dr. Busch describes an implant, "It will look and feel like a natural tooth when eating, speaking or smiling. Dental implants can last a lifetime if properly cared for with a strict regimen of brushing, flossing and scheduling regular dental checkups."
