Neither solution was ideal, as dental bridges require one more tooth on either side of the missing tooth to be sacrificed, while ignoring the problem meant having to put up with poorer oral function, diet and general health. Today, Dr. Bill Busch recommends dental implants as the most effective, practical and aesthetically pleasing means of tooth restoration.

Some of the reasons behind tooth loss are poor dental hygiene, periodontal (gum disease), tooth decay, injury or chronic illnesses such as diabetes or cancer.
