Craters & Freighters Phoenix Crates and Ships John Campbell Greenway Bronze to His Final Resting Place

85-year journey comes full circle

Phoenix, AZ -- (ReleaseWire) -- 04/08/2015 -- Craters & Freighters Phoenix was selected to complete the final leg of a two-year project of replacing the bronze sculpture of John Campbell Greenway with that of the late Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater at Statuary Hall in Washington, DC.

The larger-than-life bronze sculpture of Greenway, which was displayed in Statuary Hall for 85 years, was returned to Arizona in February, and was subsequently installed for permanent display in the Polly Rosenbaum State Archives Building near the State Capitol last month.

"Craters & Freighters provided professional and thorough planning, shipping and installation of both the Barry Goldwater and John Greenway statues," said Joan Clark, State Librarian & Director of Arizona State Library, Archives & Public Records. "Thanks to their professional staff, we sent Barry Goldwater back to the U.S. Capitol and safely welcomed the outstanding Greenway statue to Arizona,"

The Greenway bronze was conceived by renowned sculpture Gutzon Borglum, the same artist who led the project of depicting the faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt on Mount Rushmore. Greenway held executive positions in several mine, steel and railroad companies in Arizona and he was also a member of the Board of Regents at the University of Arizona. Greenway is also credited with building the mining town of Ajo, AZ. While in the United States Army, he was recognized for many heroic deeds and was the recipient of France's Croix de Guerre, the Legion of Honor, and the Croix de l'Etoile awards. He also received a Distinguished Service Cross.

"John Campbell Greenway played a significant role in early Arizona history, and to be selected as the crating and shipping provider for his final return home was an honor and privilege," said Dennis Davies, president and owner of Craters & Freighters Phoenix. "It took hours of logistical planning, not only here in Arizona, but also with the folks in Washington, DC as well."

Craters and Freighters Phoenix Exceeds Freight Forwarding Expectations

Phoenix, AZ -- (ReleaseWire) -- 02/25/2015 -- The shipping supply chain is made up of several moving parts that work together to convey products from their place of origin to a final destination. What goes on behind the scenes is invisible to most, but this finely tuned system involves a high degree of organization, tracking and documentation. Since it can be confusing for businesses to understand who's responsible for what, freight forwarding expert Craters and Freighters Phoenix breaks down the process.

"When a business decides to pursue the dynamic world of exporting, it soon realizes there are numerous barriers to overcome to get their products to a final destination," said Dennis Davies, president and owner of Craters & Freighters Phoenix. "This is where freight forwarding comes into play."

A freight forwarder, or forwarding agent, is a specialist that helps individuals and companies move items and goods from a manufacturer or producer to a market or overseas destination. It's important to note that freight forwarders don't actually move the cargo, but rather hire and manage carriers to move it. These transport agents are experts in calculating costs, recommending packing methods and types of transit, and are extremely knowledgeable in import and exports rules, regulations and documentation.

- Document Review. Once an order is ready to ship, the freight forwarder reviews and double-checks all of the necessary paperwork for accuracy. There are a number of important documents involved in this type of transfer. These include a Bill of Lading, a contract between the goods owners and the carrier and a Commercial Invoice, a bill for the goods from the seller to the buyer used to determine the actual value of goods for customs. Another document is the Certificate of Origin which is a signed statement that identifies the place where the item originated. Finally, an Export Packing List itemizes shipments by product, type of packaging container, gross weight and measurements. Without proper documentation a shipment could be delayed for weeks.

- Broker versus Freight Forwarder. There's a big difference between a broker and a freight forwarder, particularly as it relates to the law and accountability. Freight forwarders are technically considered "carriers" and held to the same standard for claims responsibility and cargo insurance as the carriers themselves. Brokers are not considered carriers and generally cannot be held liable for any claims in the event of a loss. A freight forwarder has a greater vested interest in making sure shipments arrives safely and damage free.

Craters & Freighters, a leader in specialty freight solutions, has unsurpassed expertise in freight forwarding. The one-source packing and shipping company understands every aspect of the supply chain including transportation. Their extensive knowledge of security clearance issues and proper packaging and crating reduces the risk of damage during transport. Craters and Freighters also offers volume based shipping rates that enable competitive pricing.

"Whether you're jumping head first into the export business or wading in gradually, having a knowledgeable and skilled shipping company like Craters & Freighters on your side will help the process move smoothly, cost-effectively and with the utmost reliability," added Davies.

Arizona Senator Goldwater Statue Dedicated in National Statuary Hall

Craters & Freighters Phoenix Historic Project Lands in Nation's Capital

Phoenix, AZ -- (ReleaseWire) -- 02/13/2015 -- An 11-month project came to fruition Wednesday when the bronze statue of Arizona's late Senator Barry Goldwater was unveiled during a dedication ceremony in National Statuary Hall. Craters & Freighters Phoenix has been involved with the historic statue since its inception.

In March of 2014, the company moved and installed the 8-foot-tall, 1,700-pound Goldwater statue from the foundry in Prescott to Arizona's State Capitol. Then in December Craters & Freighters experts uninstalled, custom crated, and conveyed the statue 2,300 miles across the country. Last week, they orchestrated its final installation in Washington, D.C.

"Barry Goldwater was a great man and deserves to the stand among our nation's most distinguished citizens in Statuary Hall," said president and owner Dennis Davies. "We are honored to have been involved with this momentous project and are thrilled to see it come to fruition."

Republicans and Democrats in the U.S. Capitol came together Wednesday to honor Goldwater, a conservative icon who served more than three decades as a U.S. senator and retired in 1987. He was also the Republican presidential nominee in 1964 and remains a revered figure among conservatives. The statue was created by Deborah Copenhaver-Fellows of Senoita, Arizona.

"Safely delivering oversized, delicate items like this statue is our specialty," added Davies. "Whether delivering a piece of Arizona's history or a piece of your family history, we ensure valuable shipments arrive safe, damage-free and on-time."

Craters & Freighters Phoenix Selected to Crate NFL'S Art Rooney Award for Sportsmanship

Phoenix, AZ -- (ReleaseWire) -- 02/06/2015 -- Craters & Freighters Phoenix was selected to professionally design and build a reusable crate for the NFL's Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award. The inaugural award was presented Saturday to Arizona Cardinals Larry Fitzgerald for his outstanding sportsmanship on the playing field, including fair play, respect for opponents and integrity in competition.

"We are absolutely honored to build a custom multi-use crate for the Art Rooney trophy," said Dennis Davies, president and owner of Craters & Freighters Phoenix. "We pride ourselves in our expert packaging and crating of fragile, priceless items like this award."

The Art Rooney award was founded this year in honor of the late founding owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pro Football Hall of Famer Art Rooney Sr. Fitzgerald received a $25,000 donation from the NFL Foundation to a charity of his choice.

Craters & Freighters Phoenix provides custom solutions for valuable items, like the Sportsmanship Trophy, which will be shipped repeatedly. First, the fragility, size, weight, and value of the item is considered, after which engineers design interior packaging to protect it inside the container during transportation. A variety of foams are used to ensure proper cushioning and protection. Next, a custom wood crate is professionally designed that will best protect the item to withstand repeated handling and shipping. Hardware such as link locks, hinges, and locking clasps are used so that the crate can be easily opened without tools and closed securely.

"Not only do multiple-use crates save our clients money for items needing to be shipped repeatedly, but they are also environmentally friendly as they reduce the amount of packaging materials going into landfills," added Davies.

Craters & Freighters Phoenix Offers Tips for Shipping Furniture to the United States

Phoenix, AZ -- (ReleaseWire) -- 01/07/2015 -- Whether you're bringing home an oversized souvenir or packing up a life lived abroad, shipping furniture overseas can seem overwhelming. The process requires research, judgment and lots of paperwork. Craters & Freighters Phoenix has custom crated and shipped furniture and other freight overseas for more than 20 years and has shared four tips to ensure your English foot stool or favorite chair arrives safely and affordably.

"International furniture shipping can be an intensive process," said Dennis Davies, president and owner of Craters & Freighters Phoenix. "We hope these tips help make sense of the shipping process."

1.Mode of Transport. The first step is to decide between airfreight or sea freight. Air freight is typically more expensive but faster and generally safer for delicate items. Sea freight is a less expensive option if shipping large items and delivery speed isn't a factor. Unless it's a life-sized elephant sculpture, the piece will be shipped in a container with other items and the price will be determined by cubic meter.

2.Packaging Considerations. Packing the item properly is important for any type of shipping, but especially for sea freight. Proper crating is essential since the item will share a container with other goods during a long ocean voyage. Custom cushioning and crating is recommended for fragile and easily-scratched items. Consider moisture prevention if the item has any delicate materials as salt water vapor can damage these elements during transport. Professional shipping protect items by placing them in a moisture vapor barrier bag with a desiccant and heat-sealing the seams. Finally, the U.S. Department of Agriculture requires all solid wood crating coming into the United States to be ISPM-15 Certified, which means the wood has been heat treated to kill any stowaway bugs and their larvae.

3.Rules for Importing Purchased Goods. This is where the paperwork begins. Importers bringing goods into the United States must file a Customs entry or claim with the Customs and Border Protection. When an item clears customs it goes through a process to determine whether the goods can enter the U.S. and if any duty needs to be paid. The customs process is streamlined for goods valued under $2,000, but more intensive for those valued higher. So if choosing between a $1,800 and $2,200 Oriental rug, consider the extra hassle involved in clearing customs with the more expensive item. Export laws from the country of origin and any relevant admiralty laws must also be considered.

4.International Shipping Insurance. Even after all of the preparation outlined above, shipping insurance should be purchased. Maritime laws limit liability for the ship owners which can severely cap claims for lost goods in a major accident. For example, the owners of the RMS Titanic successfully argued their liability was limited to paying $91,000 total, to be split between all the families of the deceased and survivors even though a first class ticket cost $4,350. If shipping sea freight investigate the shipping company's claims ratio. A low ratio means lower insurance costs and less chance of lost or damaged items.

"To ensure a seamless shipping experience consider utilizing shipping experts and private customs brokers to manage the import for you," added Davies.

Craters & Freighters Phoenix Offers Tips for Buying a Motorcycle out of State

Phoenix, AZ -- (ReleaseWire) -- 12/29/2014 -- Many bike enthusiasts, especially those looking for a unique model, often turn to online retailers to find their ideal road companion. When a seller is out of state this can prove to be an intimidating buying process with many questions to ask prior to the purchase. Craters & Freighters Phoenix, which has custom crated and safely shipped motorcycles for more than 20 years, has shared advice to ensure the motorcycle purchase runs smoothly and arrives without a scratch.

"Your dream motorcycle is out there, but you may have to cover a lot of road to get it into your garage," said Dennis Davies, president and owner of Craters & Freighters Phoenix. "We hope these tips will help simplify the buying process."

1. Evaluate the Seller. In general, it's safer to purchase from a licensed dealer or established site such as eBay or CycleTrader than an individual. These retailers have policies in place to assist the buyer if the product isn't quite as promised and provide dispute resolution. When shopping on eBay be sure to check the customer feedback on the seller's page and look for a high volume of sales with at least 90 percent positive comments.

2. Evaluate the Item. The best way to make a smart motorcycle purchase remotely is to thoroughly research the model. This information will make it easier to ask the right questions and spot any potential issues. Pictures are great evaluation tools so don't hesitate to ask the seller for additional photos or close-ups of particular parts. Once serious about a bike, look up the VIN with an online service such as cyclevin.com or cyclechex.com to check the vehicle's history. Another way to be more confident in purchasing from an individual is to use an inspection service such as Inspect My Ride to examine the bike in person and provide an independent evaluation.

3. Payment. A direct bank-to-bank transfer is the fastest and most secure way to make a large out-of-state purchase. An escrow service is also safe, but many sellers will not use them because of the delay in payment and high rate of escrow fraud. A cashier's check is another secure option, but the purchase process will take longer because the seller will have to wait for the check to clear.

4. Shipping. After the perfect bike has been found, inspected, and purchased, take steps to ensure it's packaged and shipped correctly. Discuss shipping options and methods with the seller to ensure the vehicle's safe arrival. The two most common tactics are direct hauls and crating. A direct haul is when a company picks up the bike and drives it to the buyer. Crating, however, involves carefully packing the bike securely and using less-than-truckload shipping to deliver the vehicle.

"Direct hauls are convenient for moving an average bike within the United States," added Davies, "However, if the motorcycle is particularly expensive, delicate or needs to be transported internationally, custom crating is the only way to ensure its safe arrival."

Craters & Freighters Phoenix Offers Packaging Advice for Santa

Phoenix, AZ -- (ReleaseWire) -- 12/12/2014 -- From delivering historical artifacts to Dubai to safely shipping a vintage carousel to the Philippines, Craters & Freighters Phoenix has tackled some of the world's toughest overseas packing and shipping assignments. There is one job, however, that might be slightly beyond their professional capabilities--being Santa Claus. Craters & Freighters Phoenix understands the magnitude of this endeavor and has shared a few packaging tips for their friends at the North Pole.

"It takes some special magic to deliver toys to every child on the planet in one night," said Dennis Davies, president and owner of Craters & Freighters Phoenix. "We hope these packaging tips ensure every gift arrives in perfect condition Christmas morning."

1. Hand-Held Electronics. It's a safe bet that iPads, iPhones, Xboxes and Playstations will top a lot of lists this year. The elves should pack these items properly before Santa flies over the Pacific Ocean since salt water vapor can damage electronics. These items should be placed in a moisture vapor barrier bag with a desiccant and then heat-sealed at the seams for added protection.

2. Robotics. Toy robots have come a long way since the vintage tin toys. Some wireless helicopters and LEGO robotics sets are incredibly elaborate and delicate. These items need to be packaged with extra care to make it under the tree unscathed. Along with moisture-proof bagging the elves should create custom crates with corrugated tri-wall containers and interior cushioning to protect sensitive components.

3. Bicycles and Electric Scooters. Some kids who have been very good this year might get a dirt bike, electric Razor scooter or an electric motorcycle. Shipping motorized toys can be tricky, even for professionals like Santa. To ensure they arrive safely the elves should disconnect and tape off the batteries. If the sleigh runs into turbulence a connected battery could short out and damage an electrical system. Bikes should also be crated with kickstands up and straps running parallel to the shock mounts. This helps utilize the bike's shock system to increase protection during sleigh transport.

"Craters & Freighters Phoenix wishes Santa calm skies, wide chimneys and bountiful cookie plates as he makes his worldwide deliveries this year," added Davies.

Craters & Freighters Phoenix Streamlines Senior Move & Estate Shipping

Guide to Evaluating Senior Moving Companies

Phoenix, AZ -- (ReleaseWire) -- 11/19/2014 -- Estate liquidation or consolidation is difficult enough. Figuring out how to get contents from one place to another adds to the confusion. Craters & Freighters Phoenix understands how overwhelming this process can be and has compiled a Senior Moving Checklist to use as a guide when evaluating senior moving services.

"With over two decades of experience safely crating, packaging and shipping fragile antiques, furniture, and family heirlooms, we understand the many details that need to be covered" said Dennis Davies, president and owner of Craters & Freighters Phoenix. "We hope this checklist will help streamline the process for those in the beginning phases."

Before getting on the phone, compile the following information to ensure an accurate quote:

-The destination address for the move and any additional destination addresses if items are being shipped to different locations.

-If there are international shipping needs the company will need to know the destination countries because taxes, tariffs and fees for shipments can vary greatly between countries.

-Approximate values of high-end items. While verification of values is necessary for insurance forms, only estimated values are needed for initial quotes.

Once connected with a moving company representative ask the following questions:

1. Are there minimums? Most moving companies will charge for an entire truck whether it's filled or not. While this may work for moving a large household, it will be wasted money for a simple downsizing. Also, some companies require with a pound minimum so ask for help estimating weight if that is the case.

2. Are packing services available? There are many levels of service available, from college students stuffing everything indiscriminately into a van to white-glove packing and shipping service. If help is required to pack valuable or delicate items choose a company that specializes in professional packing services.

3. What kind of insurance is provided and what does it cover? Purchasing insurance is suggested when shipping or moving valuable or delicate items. Request detailed information about the company's insurance policies and pricing. Craters & Freighters Phoenix takes insured items back to the warehouse, boxes them properly and then ships them to ensure maximum protection.

4. What is the damage claim procedure? Insurance is only as good as the claim procedure if something goes wrong. Beware of a company that evades this question or if the process sounds extremely confusing. Look for a service that will repair or replace for the value stated on the freight bill without a lot of hassle.

5. Does the company provide any organization help? Packing an entire household and shipping items to different locations can be stressful and time consuming. Choose a company that provides packing and organization along with moving services. High-end senior moving services will pack and organize room by room and create itemized lists that make unpacking much easier.

"By asking these questions and knowing what answers to look for you can easily choose the right company for your estate shipping or moving needs," added Davies.

Craters & Freighters Phoenix - One Stop Source for Fine Art Shipping

Phoenix, AZ -- (ReleaseWire) -- 11/14/2014 -- The right piece of art can inspire you, reflect your personality, spark conversations and make a space feel complete. Local art galleries, art shows and auctions are making art collecting more accessible than ever. Proper art shipping, however, is an art unto itself so be sure to choose a professional packing and shipping company to ensure your investment is protected.

"It's well worth the effort to select the right partner if your items are fragile, bulky or likely to need extra care when shipping," said Dennis Davies, president and owner of Craters & Freighters Phoenix. "We take the extra time getting to know the product and customize shipping options to best serve our customers."

For over two decades museums, auctions, galleries, artists and collectors have relied on Craters & Freighters Phoenix to safely move their delicate and valuable pieces across the country and around the world. Their proven expertise begins with an assessment of the artwork, including risk, storage, environment factors such as climate and temperatures. All are factored into providing the appropriate container and cushioning system to prevent damage.

"We have worked with Craters & Freighters Phoenix for years and have received outstanding professional crating, packaging & shipping service every time," said Breanne Adams, manager at Exposures International Gallery in Sedona, Arizona. "Our fragile works of art include one-of-a-kind glass sculptures, stone sculptures, and glass chandeliers that require the utmost care. We never have to think twice about how the artwork will arrive as they treat them as their own."

Many internet and retail pack and ship centers don't have the knowledge or expertise to handle one-of-a-kind items that require special knowledge and attention. Unfortunately these shipping agencies use prefabricated boxes to ship valuable items. This method won't work for a hand-carved statue or priceless fossils which requires a custom crate.

According to Teresa Lewis, manager at Touchstone Gallery of Scottsdale, "Because of the fragile and heavy nature of our fossils and minerals, we continually rely on Craters & Freighters Phoenix. They always get the job done with safety and care for our unusual products. It's an added bonus that they offer white glove delivery that so many of our clients prefer."

Craters & Freighters Phoenix Crates and Ships 2,000 Waylon Jennings Auction Items

Phoenix, AZ -- (ReleaseWire) -- 10/22/2014 -- Craters & Freighters Phoenix was selected to provide all of the specialty crating and shipping services for Guernsey's Remembering Waylon auction held earlier this month at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix. The auction featured more than 2,000 items owned by the legendary musician Waylon Jennings including Willie Nelson's trademark braids which garnered $37,000 and a desk given to him by Johnny Cash which sold for $87,500.

"We have been extremely pleased with the professionalism and dedication of Craters & Freighters," said Arlan Ettinger, president of Guernsey's auction house. "This was a very high profile auction that required a lot of detailed maintenance and they well exceeded our expectations."

Waylon Jennings is often associated with the outlaw country music movement of the 1970s he spearheaded. He was also a member of the country super group The Highwaymen with Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash. Fans of all generations remember Jennings for his creation of the theme songs for the hit show The Dukes of Hazard.

"We are honored to have been entrusted with these priceless pieces of country music history," said Dennis Davies, president and owner of Craters & Freighters Phoenix. "We take a lot of pride in our work and take care to treat every item as our own."

Some of the country music legends items being shipped include:

- Waylon's personal Martin D28 Herringbone guitar ($32,500)
- Hank Williams custom made cowboy boots ($10,000)
- Gold and Multi-platinum record awards ($3,750 - $8,750)
