Atlanta Coffeehouse Welcomes Musician Andy Loflin

The talented singer/songwriter from Charlotte, NC, performs on Thursday, August 10, 2006, from 8 to 10 p.m. at the coffeeshop's Inman Park location.

Atlanta, GA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 08/07/2006 -- It's been more than a year since Charlotte-based singer/songwriter Andy Loflin has been on stage...an unusual hiatus for a musician that has been performing non-stop around the South since he was fifteen years old. It was, however, time well spent -- taking a step back from performing and concentrating on writing and recording a new solo album due out at the end of 2006. But before the songs are forever immortalized in digital format, Andy Loflin will be trying them out on audiences across the Southeast this summer. The short eleven-city tour will showcase many new songs slated for the upcoming album in a stripped-down acoustic setting. The 2006 Coffeehouse Tour kicks off in Raleigh, NC, on August 3.

Inman Perk Coffee is pleased to welcome Andy to its Inman Park location for a live performance as part of his Coffeehouse Tour. On Thursday, August 10, from 8 to 10 p.m., customers can enjoy the music for free while enjoying the menu items Inman Perk offers including a variety of hot and cold beverages, including smoothies, chai tea, and espresso drinks. Inman Perk also offers a selection of decadent desserts, and free wifi is available for customers' use.

About Andy Loflin
Music has always been a part of Andy Loflin. He realized the moment he heard "Revolution" by The Beatles that his life had changed...something inside him turned on and it's been running ever since. At fourteen, he picked up his first guitar and instantly began writing and recording music. With several these accomplishments already under his belt at the age of 25, he has very little regrets. In 2005, he left a regionally successful rock band, Remains of the Day, and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. Now he's in the studio revisiting his roots while making his first solo recordings since 1997. At heart he is a singer/songwriter and that is what he's putting into his music. At times it's simple, and at other times the music is elaborate, but at the core it is all just about the song.

Atlanta Coffeehouse Welcomes Artist Sharon Lapin

Emerging Atlanta Artist -- It's All of Her Beeswax

Atlanta, GA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 05/16/2006 -- Imagine, as an artist, that you trade in your tubes of paint for solid blocks of wax, you swap your palette for a hot griddle, and then you replace your paintbrushes with a heat-gun and a small torch. This is the transformation Sharon Lapin made when she decided to take up encaustic painting in May of 2005. Inspired by nature, biology, and medical imagery, artist Sharon Lapin humorously considers the tension between external appearance and internal substance through the uncommon medium of encaustic painting.

Encaustic, made largely of beeswax, was developed and used during Roman and Egyptian times. The technique was rediscovered in the 20th century and is quickly gaining popularity, especially in the contemporary art field. The time consuming task of painting with encaustic requires that it be melted on a heated surface and fused with a heat-gun or torch. The outcome generates marvelously deep color and a smooth texture that is unmatched by any other painting material.

Sharon's encaustic paintings will appear May 14 through June 11, 2006, at Inman Perk Coffee (http://www.inmanperkcoffee.com), a new Atlanta coffeeshop located in the Inman Park neighborhood. The opening reception will be held Saturday, May 20, from 7 to 10 p.m. Inman Perk Coffee opened in February 2006 and exhibits the work of various artists on a monthly basis.

Sharon Lapin, an Atlanta native, graduated from Georgia State University with a Fine Arts degree in printmaking. Being drawn to less common fine art media such as etching, monotype printing, and encaustic, has afforded her the opportunity to educate viewers about these unusual and wonderful processes. She participated in Cow Parade Atlanta in 2003, being the first of several atypical group shows for her. She was also included in other notable shows such as the 2004 Castleberry Hill "Magnet Show" and the 2005 Bill Hallman "Luggage Show", among others. Sharon was recently filmed by HGTV on her encaustic technique, and the episode will air in September 2006 on the "That's Clever" show about artists around the United States.

The cafe, which features a refined, modern interior yet retains a laidback and funky atmosphere, will celebrate its grand opening from Saturday, March 18, to Saturday, March 25. Various events are planned for the grand opening week, including a drink-naming contest and dessert tasting session.

ABOUT MARCO FREY
Born in Baltimore in 1972, Marco has lived most of his life in Atlanta. He primarily works with acrylics on canvas but has a growing fascination for gouache. He always has at least one painting or project in progress. His current plans and projects include painting portraits for the CD liner of his boyfriend's band, the wayne fishell experiment, organizing his new in-house studio, and cataloging his more than 400 works of art.

For Marco, art is currently somewhere between a hobby and a fun job. He has studied painting under the instruction of Eula Ginsburg, by whom he is greatly influenced and inspired. Other influences come from the Modernists and other artists such as Jean Dubuffet, Edvard Munch, Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, and many others.

Marco currently lives in Decatur, Georgia, with his boyfriend, Wayne, and their two dogs Simon and Joy. Marco hopes to convert the detached garage into a larger, more functional workspace for creating larger works of art.

ABOUT THE WAYNE FISHELL EXPERIMENT
The wayne fishell experiment consists of Wayne Fishell and Keith Miller and presents "the very best in gay-acoustic-indie-folk-pop."

Wayne Fishell first picked up a guitar at 8 and was classically trained for 5 years. He hated to practice and has forgotten it all. He thanks his parents for paying for that. He is the titular leader of the wayne fishell experiment, and does all of the musical composition of the songs and writes most of the lyrics. He was the quintessential chorus and drama queen in high school and took countless voice lessons. A currently recovering Catholic, Wayne played in folk groups at two different churches through high school and college. He's been a professional ice cream-maker, a seafood buffet-slinger, the owner of an upscale (mostly) housecleaning service, and the best damned administrative assistant this side of the Mississippi. He appeared on the Atlanta music scene in April 2002 with his solo release "going down," with which he introduced gay-acoustic-indie-folk-pop to the world, and he's played at numerous gay pride festivals, bookstores, and clubs in the Southeast. He currently lives in Decatur, Georgia, with his boyfriend, the artist Marco.

Keith Miller (aka big.peaches) began playing drums at age 10. He's been beating on things ever since. His use of traditional drums mixed with machines and found objects creates the wayne fishell experiment's unconventional beat. He formed a synth-dance duo in NYC in the mid-80s called boy next door. Keith also has performed, produced, directed and written for and in nightclubs, theater, radio, television and film for over 30 years. His writing credits for the stage include, in Seattle: "Beyond The Invasion of the Bee Girls," staged by House of Dames and directed by Nikki Appino; in New York: "Testing The Water," "Heart & Soul," "Good Sense" and the cabaret musical "Men In America: The Millennium Approaches." He wrote and performed stand-up comedy in NYC clubs and was a contributing reporter for Outweek magazine. Keith lived in Los Angeles for 9 years where he wrote several unproduced screenplays, took numerous and productive meetings, and got a lot of therapy. He currently lives in Decatur, Georgia.
