Avengers Movie a "Big Help" for People Selling Their Old Comics, Says Owner of World's Largest Online-Only Comic Book Store

Norristown, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/21/2015 -- When thinking about selling old comic books as part of spring-cleaning, now could be the time to do it. "Avengers: Age of Ultron," opens May 1, and if history is any guide, the film should bring comic buyers out of the woodwork, especially those who are looking to buy comic books online.

"A blockbuster Marvel movie raises the level of interest in all comics," said Jim Drucker, CEO of NewKadia.com, the world's largest online-only comic-book store.

NewKadia.com has an inventory of over 750,000 comics at its fulfillment center, about 20 miles outside Philadelphia. The company sells about 200,000 comics annually and sold its 1.5 millionth comic in March.

To keep its inventory high, NewKadia.com takes comics from sellers on consignment and offers them more money for their comics than they can get from brick-and-mortar stores. "Comic-book stores are trying to buy comics as cheap as possible to get the highest possible profit on every book," Drucker said. "Our strategy is that our business grows as we grow our inventory, so we give sellers a higher percentage of what we sell the comics for. We pay more for each comic, but our overall profit is higher because we sell such a high volume of comics."

That was a plus for Laura Brady, a Cleveland resident who wanted to sell her husband's collection after he passed away in 2002.

"We were looking for a way to, in one place, get as much value as we could out of his collection," Brady said. "NewKadia offered the flexibility to take them all and give us a percentage of what he sold them for."

Brady said she wound up getting nearly $10,000 from NewKadia.com for the collection. "I was happy with it," she said. "We didn't have anything extraordinary."

Brady is one of nearly 1,000 people from 43 states who have consigned comic books with NewKadia.com. They include individuals selling their personal collections, to retail-store owners looking for a second way to sell their inventory. Consignments have ranged from three to over 100,000 comics.

One of the larger consigners is Joseph Koch, who ships comics all over the world from a warehouse in Brooklyn. Since December 2004, NewKadia.com has sold over 42,000 comics for Koch.

"NewKadia.com is kind of unique in a whole bunch of regards," Koch said.

Those include its software, which once a day adjusts the prices of all its comics based on supply and demand; its inventory system, which enables employees to easily shelve and retrieve comics; and the number of comics it offers for sale through its website.

In addition to boosting the sales of comics in general, "Avengers: Age of Ultron" should boost the sales of issues of "The Avengers" in particular.

NewKadia.com has been in business for 183 months. For 181 of them, its best-selling title has been Marvel's "Amazing Spider Man." "It's only been dethroned twice," Drucker said. "Once was the month that the first Avengers movie came out." NewKadia.com's top-selling title that month? "The Avengers," which is NewKadia.com's seventh-best selling title over the past year.

"So if you have some old Avengers comics for sale or any comics you want to sell, this would be the time to do it," said Drucker.

World's Largest Comic Book Store Hits Landmark of 1.5 Million Comics Sold

Norristown, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/20/2015 -- NewKadia.com, the world's largest comic book store, sold its 1,500,000th comic on March 19, 2015. NewKadia opened for business in 2000, and now sells approximately 200,000 comics per year, according to its CEO, Jim Drucker. The leading online only platform to buy comic books is growing at "about 3% per month."

NewKadia has sold comics to customers in all 50 states and to 92 countries on six continents around the globe. The 1,500,000th comic was sold to a new customer from Ithaca, NY, whose order consisted of four books, including the first issue of Incredible Hulk comics.

"A big reason for our growth is NewKadia.com's technology," said Drucker. "With 750,000 comics in stock, our algorithms adjust the price on a daily basis based on supply and demand. The more copies of an issue in stock, the lower the price of each one." As a result, NewKadia's customers determine the real value of every comic. A high tech inventory system further keeps costs down and permits NewKadia to price every comic lower than the value listed in the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, the industry pricing standard for comic books.

An important factor for growing repeat business, according to Drucker, is the company's "Comic Book Mind Reader" which recommends comic books to its customers based on their buying history. NewKadia's proprietary algorithm identifies each one of NewKadia's 90,000 customers who have bought the same comics as a different customer. Then, it identifies other comics those 90,000 customers bought that the customer hasn't, offering suggestions of which overlooked comics they will enjoy the most.

"It's like reading the minds of 90,000 comic book fans to find those with similar interest to recommend comics you've missed," said Drucker.

The average returning customer looking for comic books for sale online spends over $400 with NewKadia in the first three years as a customer. About 65% of its customers are male, and the majority are between 25 and 54 years old. The company offers same-day shipping in custom-designed shipping containers to ensure the comics remain intact through delivery. Visit their website to browse their extensive collection of affordable comic books.

Former Sports Exec's Online Comic Shop Is in a League of Its Own

Norristown, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/25/2015 -- A former commissioner of two professional sports leagues who doesn't read comic books has built a comic-book store as big as any of the imaginary creations that populate the periodicals it sells. Jim Drucker started NewKadia.com on Jan. 1, 2000, after years of listening to first his mother, then his wife, ask him when he was going to throw out the comic-book collection he had amassed during his youth.

The former head of the Continental Basketball Association and the Arena Football League largely ran the company as a hobby until five years ago, when he moved its distribution center into a new, larger facility. Since then, its growth has skyrocketed. NewKadia.com has an inventory of more than three-quarters of a million comic books, is selling 200,000 comics a year, and is poised to sell its 2 millionth comic in late winter or early spring.

"In just a few years, we've literally become the biggest internet-only comic-book store for people buying comic books in the world," Drucker said. That's in spite of the fact that Drucker, even though he couldn't bring himself to dispose of the comic books of his childhood, isn't a comics fan. "I'm the only owner of a comic book store in the world who doesn't read comic books," he said.

Drucker attributes NewKadia.com's success to its ability to satisfy both the people who buy comic books online through its website and the people whose comic books it sells on a consignment basis. "Instead of getting 5 cents on the dollar, they're getting 50 cents on the dollar," he said.

A big reason for that is NewKadia.com's technology. The company has developed algorithms that adjust the prices of all its comics based on supply and demand, and that recommend comics to visitors of its website based on their search and purchase history. Additionally, Drucker said, NewKadia.com's computer system enables him to run the company with two full-time and three part-time employees, even though a brick-and-mortar store of its size would require about 15 people.

NewKadia.com prides itself on customer service with a free shipping program that Drucker modeled on Amazon Prime and custom-designed shipping containers that ensure its comic books reach their new owners in their advertised condition.

In 1999, Drucker read an interview with Jeff Bezos in which the Amazon.com Inc. founder said he had made books Amazon's first focus. Not because he was a bibliophile, but because books were easy to ship and display on computer screens. "I said, 'Bingo, the same is true of comic books,'" and launched NewKadia.com the following year, Drucker recalled.

NewKadia.com's growth has Drucker thinking of expanding the company into other areas that are similar to comic books, such as board games or vinyl records. His ultimate goal, he said, is to make NewKadia.com the place to go for anyone who wants to buy comic books and make the website the world's most efficient sales platform for used products.

World's Largest Comic Book Store, NewKadia, Unveils Its "No Asterisks" Policy

Norristown, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/30/2015 -- The world's largest internet-only comic book store, NewKadia.com, has launched a new marketing campaign for 2015 named "No Asterisks." The program is designed for the company to highlight the fact that their customer service rules are straight forward, letting loyal customers know there are no gimmicks when making a purchase.

"We don't doubletalk our customers," according to CEO, Jim Drucker. "For example, when we have a 25% off sale, all 650,000 comics are discounted - no exceptions. Our 100% money back guarantee for a returned comic will refund the entire cost, including two-way shipping; no loopholes. Our policies don't need asterisks. We don't over promise and then wiggle out of it with tiny print. When you buy comic books at NewKadia, you don't have to worry about anything."

The company features thousands of comics in its inventory. Whether in search of brand new or classic, old comic books for sale, find all the superheroes and publishers from the golden era to the modern era at NewKadia.com. When visiting the website, there are sales and specials for savings off their entire inventory, without asterisks.

Drucker noted that a typical consumer can't trust many retailers to be upfront and totally honest. "They'll say they are having a 25% off sale but then in tiny, microscopic print exclude special orders, electronics, layaways, etc.," said Drucker. "We're taking a stand – no exceptions, no asterisks, no BS at NewKadia when you buy comic books."

NewKadia has banished the asterisk from all 181,523 pages of its website, the largest comic book website in the world, because, "if we say it, we mean it; yes means yes, no ifs, ands, buts, or asterisks," said Drucker.

For more information about the website, or to buy comic books at discounted prices, please visit the website today. There are often 24-hour flash sales that offer great savings for all comic collectors.

World's Largest Comic Book Store Giving Away Up to $500,000 in Free Comic Books Starting Christmas Day

Norristown, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/23/2014 -- The world's largest internet-only comic book store is giving away up to $500,000 in free comic books over the next 15 months, in the largest free comic book giveaway in history, according to Jim Drucker, the company's CEO.

The giveaway celebrates NewKadia's 15th anniversary online. Ten people each day will be selected at random each day. Every day, two have a chance to win a $150 NewKadia gift card and eight can win a $100 NewKadia Gift card. The giveaway runs from December 25, 2014 through March 31, 2016.

No purchase is necessary and instructions on claiming a prize and entry instructions are available at http://www.NewKadia.com/Win

Winners can use their Gift Card like cash to purchase any of the over 650,000 comic books from NewKadia.com

"Superhero movies have reignited interest in comics and traffic to NewKadia.com verifies that," said Drucker. According to Google, NewKadia's website has 108,963 different pages featuring nearly every comic book title ever published, making it the largest comic book store in the world.

"Avoiding costs of rent for a retail location, retail displays, clerks, cashiers, and liability insurance lowers our costs substantially," said Drucker. He estimates that a brick and mortar store with NewKadia's 650,000 comic book inventory would spend $1 million annually on those items. Drucker continued, "That's why giving away up to $500,000 in gift cards is relatively inexpensive since it encourages tens of thousands of people to visit NewKadia daily. More visitors means more people buying comic books online."

Norristown, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/26/2014 -- The world's largest internet-only comic book store, NewKadia.com has upgraded their shipping with their creation of custom "Safe Ship & Zip" shipping boxes.

"We designed our own boxes because nothing available adequately protected comic books," said Drucker.

NewKadia's three design goals, according to Drucker, were: (1) to protect the corners of the comics from bending due to a box being dropped, (2) to protect customers by adding an easy "zip-strip" so the box can be opened without needing a knife or scissors, and (3) to use self-sealing boxes like Amazon, so exterior taping would not get caught in FedEx's or the post office's automated sorting equipment.

"Since we created the Safe Ship & Zip boxes, the damage rate has dropped to nearly zero," said Drucker. "And, we've received lots of e-mails from customers thanking us for making opening boxes so easy."

"We've shipped comic books to 117 countries, and our damage rate is among the lowest in the comic book business," said Drucker. "So, if you buy comic books online, or are looking for comic books for sale, you don't have to worry about shipping damage at NewKadia."
