Tutt Street Optometry Revolutionizes Eye Care Once Again

New Retinal Camera Technology Promises Accurate Detection of Eye Conditions

Kelowna, BC -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/30/2015 -- Tutt Street Optometry, a local eye care clinic based out of Kelowna, British Columbia, with a long-held reputation for top-notch patient care and a tech focused approach to eye care, has recently announced the addition of their latest state-of-the-art piece of equipment, the Cannon Retinal Camera.

In explaining briefly about what the Retinal Camera is used for and how it works, Dr. Greg Wallace, of Tutt Street Optometry relates, "The retinal camera is used to take photographs of the back of the eye or retina, which is the neurosensory tissue in our eyes that translates the optical images we see into electrical impulses that our brain understands. The retinal camera is a specialized low power microscope with an attached camera. The retina can be photographed directly through the pupil, which is used for both an entrance and exit for the cameras illuminating and imaging rays. Many eye diseases can be discovered with this type of photography, including glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinal vascular diseases such as diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy and optic nerve swelling."

Dr. Wallace and his associates also see the advantages that the new Cannon Retinal Camera brings to the practice, and the positive reception that this addition has gotten from patients. Dr. Wallace comments, "Retinal photography definitely improves comprehensive exams compared to when we did not have this technology. The greatest factor that is appreciated, is the ability for us as practitioners, to be able to monitor accurately for subtle changes and look back over time with previous images to help us decide if, how much and what rate of change has occurred. This allows us to formulate an appropriate treatment plan for the patient. With previous chart recording alone, it proved to be subjective, with differences from practitioner to practitioner, which made it more challenging to know with confidence if there was a change in one's condition. The most exciting part of this technology, however, is the patient education component of the photography. It is extremely valuable to be able to show patients their eye condition, so that they can better understand what we are monitoring and/or treating. patients definitely appreciate this technology, as most find it very interesting to be able to visualize the back of their eyes to allow them to understand their eye condition or simply show them that their eyes are healthy, especially if they have family histories of certain eye diseases that they are concerned about."

Dr. Wallace recommends all patients over the age of 40 receive a comprehensive eye exam that includes retinal photography, since this is the time at which patients come to be at higher risk for the types of eye conditions that retinal photography is designed to detect.

For more information on this press release visit: http://www.releasewire.com/press-releases/release-3.htm

Media Relations Contact

Daniel Rostenne
Telephone: 250-762-3309
Email: Click to Email Daniel Rostenne
Web: http://www.tutteyes.ca/

Tutt Street Optometry Announces Addition of New Nidek 4-in-1

New Device Makes Having Multiple Eye Scans Faster, More Convenient

Kelowna, BC -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/02/2015 -- Tutt Street Optometry, one of the top optometric practices in British Columbia, and one with a reputation for cutting edge innovation, proudly introduced to the public today the latest technological addition to their eyecare practice, the new Nidek 4-in-1 optical scanning device.

This innovative machine is the most advanced optical scanning device in the eyecare world today in terms of accurate, convenient optometric scans. The Nidek 4-in-1 combines into a single machine the ability for the eye doctor to conduct four different measurements with the same device. This increases both patient and doctor convenience by making the testing process faster and more comfortable. The Nidek optical scanning device is able to measure the curvature of a patient's corneal surface, the refractive error of the eye, which represents a person's farsightedness or nearsightedness and whether they have astigmatism, central corneal thickness in nanometers and intraocular pressure (IOP), to deliver a fast and comprehensive view of a patient's general overall eye health.

Offering comment about the advantage of having all four of these tests encapsulated in a single device, Dr. Greg Wallace, Optometrists at Tutt Street Optometry, says, "The convenience for the patient is that all 4 measurements are performed while sitting at the same instrument rather than having to move between four separate instruments. This is also better for the eye doctor since he/she doesn't have to re-position the patient for each test, which saves valuable time and ensures the accuracy of all four scans so long as the patient is positioned properly at the beginning. The whole procedure is quick and painless, and typically is completed within a single minute."

Performing all four tests all together also facilitates the combining of tests for increased ease and accuracy in discovering eye conditions that otherwise may have gone undetected until having developed further and potentially done further damage. "The auto-refractor part of the instrument measures the refractive error of the eye. It can help to discover some eye diseases like keratoconus," explains Dr. Wallace, "We also decided to invest in this technology for the extra information that central corneal thickness and routine IOP measurement gives in diagnosing glaucoma as well as more accuracy in measuring the objective refractive error in our pediatric patients."

Dr. Wallace recommends that all his patients have auto-refraction and auto-keratometry done, and for all his patients over 19 years old to also have measurements for central corneal thickness and IOP. This ensures the best patient care available.

Tutt Street Optometry Announces Addition of Revolutionary Zeiss OCT Scanner

Dr. Gerald Wallace: “We Will Change The Way Ocular Diseases Are Detected and Treated.”

Kelowna, BC -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/29/2014 -- Dr. Gerald Wallace announced recently the addition of the newest generation of Spectral Domain OCT, the revolutionary new Zeiss OCT scanning device, to his practice at Tutt Street Optometry in Kelowna, British Columbia.

Explaining briefly about this new technology, Dr. Wallace states, "OCT is a scanning technology very similar to a CT scan. It is used to scan the retina and optic nerve at a very high resolution, down to a 5 micron (0.005 mm) digital segment of your eye. It is possible to use this technology to scan the anterior portion of the eye, but it is generally used to investigate, diagnose and monitor glaucoma and macular degeneration. It does this by creating high resolution images of the eye, which can then be used for analysis and detection of changes that could signal possible ocular problems."

Dr. Wallace and his team are excited about their new technology's remarkable ability to help their patients. "The most exciting part of this technology," comments Dr. Wallace, "is the ability to see and therefore treat eye disease prior to a patient experiencing symptoms and/or vision loss. It offers the highest resolution possible when scanning your eye, and has very robust glaucoma progression analysis software, which is why it is becoming the standard of care in glaucoma care and follow-up."

About OCT Scans
OCT scans during eye exams are appropriate for anyone who have early signs of glaucoma or macular disease of any kind. The patient experience is very simple, comfortable and convenient. Dr. Wallace explains, "A patient will be seated in front of the instrument and instructed to look for various targets in the field of view. The OCT scan is then acquired in a few seconds of time once the staff have ensured the patient is accurately fixating on the appropriate target and the proper signal strength is achieved."

For more information on this press release visit: http://www.releasewire.com/press-releases/release-3.htm

Media Relations Contact

Daniel Rostenne
Telephone: 250-762-3309
Email: Click to Email Daniel Rostenne
Web: http://www.tutteyes.ca/
