The event was well-attended and the mobile A/C clinic was a hands-on and diagnostics-centered, perfect for heavy duty and off-road vehicle A/C technicians.

T/CCI Manufacturing provided a demonstration of a "normal" passenger vehicle allowing participants to plot pressure temperatures, superheat, and sub-cooling. Using the same vehicle and climatic wind tunnel continued the charge determination into an "overcharged" condition to demonstrate the effect on not properly compensating for residual oil in the system. T/CCI then pulled charge and oil from the same system which dramatically showed the effect of reduced refrigerant and oil charge. Thermal Migration is a condition by which refrigerant moves statically throughout a refrigeration system due to changes in the climatic conditions. The nature of the refrigerant is such that it will always flow to the coldest area and since conditions are static and the refrigerant has density then gravity has a minor influence. In most instances some or all of the following conditions must be met to create this undesirable condition: high solar load, large glass surface area, high delta temperature between daytime and nighttime (low humidity ambient), significant elevation differences between system components, and vehicle is not operational for a period of time (days, weeks).

Knowing that the main causes of thermal migration are climate conditions, T/CCI engineers recommend that following "best practices" to minimize the risks of thermal migration.

-Utilize a check valve in the suction line at the compressor
-Use an Oil Separator at the discharge line to reduce oil circulation in the system and maintain higher volume in the compressor
-Eliminate "J" pipes of evaporator in and out, mount Block TXV horizontal and straighten 90 degree turns into block valve
-Using logic module cycle the compressor 3-5 times rapidly at start up
