Dr. Rodney Parker-Yarnal completed medical school at the University of Missouri-Columbia, general psychiatry residency at Saint Louis University, and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of California-Davis. There, he undertook training focused on autism spectrum disorders at the M.I.N.D. Institute, a highly regarded center for autism research and patient care.

For several years prior to medical school, he worked in direct care and educational settings with autistic children and their families. These relationships and experiences afforded him an awareness of their day-to-day struggles and successes. He undertook medical education with this perspective and the desire to accompany them as an agent of positive growth.
