Almost any view from RationalPlan can be printed either to the printer or to a PDF file. All the user has to do is to customize the way he wants that view to look (arrange and resize columns, scale to the preferred timescale, filter, etc.) and then print it. But there are certain reports that can not be printed this way by using a view. And for these reports an additional method was created which is independent of the current view from the application. Reports like the project status, project information, working calendars, etc. that were not available in previous versions can now be generated as PDF files.

One of the most important features that was added in current version is the possibility to launch the Multi Project product directly from the browser while using the Project Server. This way it is easier to keep the project evolution up to date since the project manager delegates the work of updating tasks completion to the corresponding resources.

Users will now have the possibility to create tasks by default as work-driven, fixed-units or to force assigned resources to work based on the calendar of the task. RationalPlan Project Management Software 3.15.0 version comes with a major change in its planning and scheduling mechanism. Also, an easier to use interface and some more useful features are ready for RationalPlan users.

Craiova, Dolj -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/31/2009 -- Stand By Soft has released RationalPlan 3.15, a strong project management software application developed to assist project managers in creating plans, tracking progress, allocating resources, managing budgets and analyzing workload. The new version comes with a major change in its planning and scheduling mechanism, an easier to use interface and some more useful features.

Important changes of this version:

RationalPlan changed the scheduling mechanism. such that it will allow users to see the list of conflicts from a project. With this feature project managers have the possibility to allow temporary conflicts in the project. This is useful mainly when they want to have different project planning scenarios. The new algorithm is more flexible letting the manager choose the way he wants to handle a conflict or if he wants to keep that conflict from one reason or another. Conflicts are signaled on the Gantt chart and the managers can easily navigate through the list by selecting the desired conflict to handle it.

RationalPlan has a built in Project Guide to help managers take the best planning decisions. Once RationalPlan users become more familiar with the product this guide is less useful and can be hidden. Still there are certain views that can be accessed only from this guide. Hence for the case when the users hide this guide the developers of RationalPlan added some short cut icons for fast access to the hidden views.

With this version the cut/copy/paste actions for tasks where improved. RationalPlan is now able to keep tasks assignments when copying and then pasting them. In this way certain projects can be used as templates for new projects. The new projects will use the same resources as previous ones and this is a good thing because if the old projects where successfully completed then there are bigger chances for the new projects to succeed.

Managing task dependencies was never easier with RationalPlan. Now project managers can manage not only the list of predecessors for a task but also the list of successors. Now they can see for which activities a task is waiting for and also the tasks that depend on a certain task. This way the scheduling path of a project is easier to be managed.

More project data is now exported to Excel files. Some bug fixes where also treated in this version.

RationalPlan started it's way to become an international product. Although for now only English language is supported soon enough there will be added other languages (Italian, French, German). Current version added Outlook integration for iCalendar .ics files when sending emails with assignments to resources. Now users can add Outlook to Apple iCal and Google Calendar list of clients that can open .ics files generated with RationalPlan. Still this feature is available only for VEVENT generated items and not for VTODO ones. This lack of functionality is the result of the fact that Outlook does not fully support the iCalendar protocol. More exactly Outlook does not support VTODO and VJOURNAL elements. This Outlook lack of compatibility with the iCalendar standard is a problem for many project management software packages available on the market but Microsoft seems to refuse to implement it even in Outlook 2007.

Task deadlines are easier to be managed starting with this version. Users can display them as columns in tasks table and view them also on Gantt chart. Hence delayed tasks are easier to detect and the project manager has more time available to solve them.

One other issue that was treated in this version is the file locking mechanism. RationalPlan uses a file lock system to avoid concurrent access conflicts from different users. But on certain network sharing protocols like Samba file locking mechanism is not supported. On these networks RationalPlan will still open files but without locking and is the users responsibility to manage concurrency.

The interface settings are now also kept for the "Risks" view. In addition to this the manager has the possibility to print the list of risks for a project.

The execution speed of the application was increased substantially on certain views like the "Resource Sheet" and "Task Sheet". More changes were made for a better integration of RationalPlan with the Mac OS X platform. Also some important bug fixes are related to the import of MS Project files.
