Expansion Joints, Bellows, Compensators, Manufacturers "John Cardwell Ltd", Produce a Bespoke Articulated Compensator

Stockport, Cheshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/24/2009 -- John Cardwell Limited http://www.john-cardwell.co.uk metallic expansion joint designers and manufacturers based in Stockport, Cheshire have recently worked closely with a global manufacturer of specialised chemicals to design then produce a bespoke replacement articulated compensator.

The design utilised nickel alloy bellows elements in lieu of the stainless steel bellows used in the original compensator design.

The original 200mm articulated expansion joint had given many years service but needed replacement as part of plant improvements.

Following discussions with the Client and working from photographs and site measurements the basis of the replacement unit was established. During the design process and at the suggestion of John Cardwell Limited it was agreed that the general security of plant operation would be improved by enhancing the material used for the bellows.

Inconel 625 was used to produce the bellows, this material gives excellent corrosion resistance against not only the flow medium but also the effects of the external environment.

As part of the replacement exercise John Cardwell Limited made some suggestions to further improve the operation of the replacement expansion compensator, these involved minor modifications to the existing pipework but since the original unit was welded-in this entailed little or no extra installation work.

The replacement unit was supplied with swivel flanges as specified by the Client to ensure that no alignment issues arose on fitting and the expansion joint was designed, manufactured, tested and delivered on a 3-week lead time to suit the site programme.

Full supporting documentation including 3,1 material certificates for all pressure-containing materials and a works pressure test certificate were provided as part of the overall package.
