Dr. Lee Uses the NTI Tension Suppression System to Relieve Severe Headache Pain

Medfield, MA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 12/07/2016 -- The NTI Tension Suppression System is a small removable plastic resin device which is worn over the front teeth at night to prevent contact of the canine teeth and molars. "The NTI works by reducing the force of the clenching. By minimizing the source of the pain, relief is usually seen within a few days," remarks Dr. Lee.

The NTI can offer relief to patients who suffer from tension and migraine headaches, TMJS, or bruxism. The NTI is fitted by Dr. Jennifer Lee who is trained in the technique to customize the device to fit a patient's mouth.

Intense throbbing or a pulsing sensation in one area of the head and commonly accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound are common symptoms of a migraine headache. Migraine attacks can cause significant pain for hours to days and be so severe that the sufferer can only think about finding a dark, quiet place to lie down.

"If medication hasn't worked for you in the past, talk to me about trying a different approach such as an NTI TSS," remarks Dr. Lee. Tension headaches are usually felt on the sides of your head as pain or pressure or as tightness around your forehead.

Dr. Lee Makes Parents Aware of the Need for Children's Dentistry at an Early Age

Medfield, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/07/2016 -- A delayed first visit to the dentist can affect children's lifelong oral health. Dr. Jennifer Lee of West Mill Smiles encourages parents to bring their child in for the first dental visit between 24 and 36 months of age.

Remember as a kid how scary it was to be told that it was time for a dentist visit? The child didn't know what to expect, but probably had overheard stories from other children, or even their parents about how painful going to the dentist can be. Then, throw in words such as needles and drills and their imaginations kicked into overdrive. Dr. Lee takes a whole different approach to making her small patients comfortable and takes the fear out of going to the dentist.

At West Mill Smiles in Medfield, MA, Dr. Lee realizes that kids have different needs than adults visiting the dentist office. She says, "We love working with our young patients and we encourage the parents of young children to bring them along to the parent's routine dental visit so that the child can easily see what goes on during the appointment and become familiar with our staff and office." Dr. Lee thinks that even toddlers need to see the dentist! Prevention and early intervention can help maintain healthy, happy smiles for a lifetime!

When is the best time for braces? Dr. Lee states, "There are some real benefits in starting orthodontic treatment when children are younger. The child doesn't have to wear braces for a long period of time, especially during those awkward teenage years. It is also much easier to expand the palate and allow room for all of the adult teeth to have the proper growing space." Expanding the palate allows space in the mouth so the child's adult teeth have room to grow.

About Dr. Jennifer Lee
Dr. Lee has developed relationships with some excellent orthodontists in the area and can refer parents and children to an orthodontist if an exam reveals crowded or crooked teeth, or issues with the palate.

Dr. Lee seeks to bring the latest, state-of-the-art research and technology to her patients, ensuring that they received unparalleled dental care, and deepens her knowledge through study clubs, workshops, and keeping up with the latest advances in the field.

Dr. Jennifer Lee Explains TMJ to Patients

Medfield, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/18/2016 -- Dr. Lee of West Mill Smiles explains to her patients who suffer from Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJS) what it is and what causes it. Simply put, it is what happens when the muscles in the jaw and the temporomandibular joint are out of alignment or misaligned.

Often, TMJ syndrome presents itself as a popping sound and sensation near the jaw joint. TMJS is actually something about 60 million people in America currently have. Dr. Lee states, "TMJ problems can affect people of all ages, although patients under 40 are more susceptible and it also occurs more frequently in women. Left untreated, the TMJ symptoms can increase in number and severity as you get older."

"So what's happening is the ligaments, muscles, bones and joints do not line up, thereby causing pain," explains Dr. Lee. Symptoms of TMJ can be agonizing and may include the following: Clicking, popping or grating sounds when opening or closing the mouth, headaches and/or dizziness, tenderness in jaw muscles, earache and jaws that sometimes lock open when yawning. Most of the time all that's needed is a simple adjustment to the bite (the way your teeth come together) or a small mouthpiece that corrects the way the jaw joint closes.

Dr. Lee will discuss possible causes and treatments of a TMJ problem. In many cases, however, the cause of TMJ disorders isn't clear and can be a combination of ailments. In order to determine the best course of treatment, an accurate diagnosis is imperative.

"Our treatment is conservative and often does not involve shots. We can treat these problems because they are most likely caused by clenching your teeth usually when you're sleeping," remarks Dr. Lee. When you clench your teeth you use some of the strongest muscles in your body that can cause morning and tension headaches, damage to surrounding joints, teeth and other muscles.

For a long time, the idea that chronic headaches and migraines were linked to the jaw joint wasn't given serious attention. Finally, the medical and dental communities are collaborating in an interdisciplinary assault on Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome Disorder (TMJD).

Dr. Lee Introduces Invisalign Express 5 to Her Patients

Medfield, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/08/2016 -- Dr. Lee of West Mill Smiles introduces Invisalign Express 5 to her patients who had never contemplated orthodontic treatment. A shorter treatment time and more cost-effectiveness compared to other Invisalign treatments, leaves no doubt that Invisalign Express 5 has the benefits that patients with minor orthodontic problems can expect.

These benefits are based on the number of aligners needed to achieve the purpose of straightening an individual's teeth. The number "5" refers to the sets of aligners that come with this treatment option. "The conditions treated by Invisalign Express 5 are minor conditions such as spacing, crowding or when my patient has had braces before and a minor adjustment is needed to accomplish the final results" comments Dr. Lee.

Patients may ask what is "Invisalign"? Invisalign is a virtually invisible alternative to braces.

Treatment includes a series of clear aligners that straighten your teeth. Invisalign is invisible and removable so it allows you to continue to brush and floss normally during treatment. The average treatment time of conventional Invisalign treatment is 10-12 months. The Invisalign Express 5 treatment will be completed in approximately 3 months. The patient changes the aligners about every two weeks and this will slowly move the teeth into proper alignment.

"Many patients want to correct a little crowding or other minor malocclusions, but don't follow-through because of the perceived high cost of orthodontic treatment. Invisalign Express 5 gives me a new option for those patients," said Dr. Jennifer Lee.

Dr. Lee of West Mill Smiles Provides Relief for Patients Who Suffer from Sleep Apnea

Medfield, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/29/2016 -- Snoring has an effect on 30% of people in America. Second-hand snoring, which means being kept awake or even having an individual's own rest disturbed by a snoring partner has an effect on approximately 73% of individuals that share a bed with someone who snores.

A solution accessible to those who snore and have sleep apnea is an oral appliance that Dr. Jennifer Lee offers. The oral appliance is comparable to an athletic mouthguard and is worn while sleeping. The appliance helps prevent the collapse of the tongue and soft tissues at the back of the throat.

Sleep apnea is characterized by abnormal pauses in breathing while asleep. Each pause, called an apnea, can last from at least 10 seconds to minutes and may occur five to 30 times or more per hour.

Dr. Jennifer Lee explains, "Although snoring seems physically harmless, it may be a red flag for a much more serious and sometimes fatal condition called obstructive sleep apnea. This happens when the air passage deflates, blocking airflow into the lungs. The harder one tries to breathe, the tighter the air passage seals. This airway blockage persists until the brain partly wakes up the person with a gasp for air and then the cycle starts again."

"Everyone knows about the ugly results of second-hand smoke, but have you seen the news about how bad second-hand snoring can be to you?" asks Dr. Lee. Research shows that bedmates of people who snore are losing just as much sleep as the snorer. Given that snorers can produce nearly 80 decibels of sound, a bed partners' noisy rumbles are detrimental to the snorer and the bedmate.

Recently the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) approved dental appliances as a first line of treatment for snoring and mild to moderate sleep apnea and for patients with severe sleep apnea who cannot tolerate a CPAP mask. "Over 95% of patients are satisfied with the level of improvement with their snoring when assessed and treated correctly," states Dr. Lee.

Dr. Jennifer Lee Endorses Dental Implants

Medfield, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/29/2015 -- Dental implants can bring about a good number of benefits. However, just like other types of oral surgery, dental implant placement requires a certain amount of training and experience that not every dentist is equipped with. Dr. Jennifer Lee of West Mill Smiles is among a group of dental professionals qualified to perform implant dentistry.

A dental implant is a substitute tooth root made of titanium that is anchored into the jawbone to provide a foundation for restorations. Computer imaging ensures that it can be precisely positioned in the most ideal location in the jawbone. "Although the implant requires surgery, it is far superior to a bridge because it is an independent restoration that does not rely on adjacent teeth for stability. Therefore, no other teeth has to be sacrificed to anchor an implant," explains Dr. Lee.

For those with a missing tooth or teeth, an implant means the restored ability to chew and enjoy food, without the inconvenience and embarrassment associated with removable teeth.

How dental implant surgery is performed depends on the type of implant and the condition of the patient's jawbone. All dental implant surgery occurs in stages and may involve several procedures. A major benefit is that it provides solid support for the new teeth by ensuring that the bone heals tightly around the implant. Because this healing requires time, the process can take several months.

Dr. Lee recommends a preliminary consultation to determine if a patient is a suitable candidate for a tooth implant. "I will check your teeth, gums and bone density, before performing some x-rays and maybe a dental CT scan to ensure that you possess sufficient bone structure for the dental implant to be placed," she says.

There are a few other reasons why dental implants are an excellent option for replacing a missing tooth or teeth: they are permanent and stable, look natural, do not interfere with adjacent teeth, and have a high success rate.

Dr. Jennifer Lee Provides CEREC One-Visit Crowns

Medfield, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/23/2015 -- Anyone who has ever had to get a crown remembers the general procedure they had to undergo to get it placed.

First, the tooth had to be numbed, then drilled down to a stub. Teeth impressions had to be taken by having the patient put a tray of "goop" into their mouth and waiting for it to harden. When the tray was taken out, it often felt like the teeth were being pulled out too. Finally, the patient would get a temporary crown, which looked like a tin foil tooth and tasted like aluminum.

"When the permanent crown is ready, which might take a couple of weeks, the patient would have to come in for a second appointment to get it placed," adds Dr. Jennifer Lee of West Mill Smiles.

Fortunately, that is no longer the case for patients at West Mill Smiles, with the introduction of CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics). This system provides patients with the latest technology in same-day crowns, fillings and dental restorations. Porcelain crowns, inlays, onlays, and veneers can be made or repaired in just one visit.

CEREC uses CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/manufacturing technology), which incorporates a camera, computer, and milling unit in one piece of technology.

"To obtain an accurate picture of the damaged tooth, a digital impression is taken using a special camera. This impression is then transferred to and displayed on a full-spectrum color computer, where I put into motion the CAD technology to design the restoration," explains Dr. Lee. From there, CAM technology takes over the procedure, automatically creating the crown in just 10 to 20 minutes. A high quality ceramic material is used to match the natural color of teeth. In the final stage, Dr. Lee bonds the new crown to the surface of the old tooth. The entire procedure takes approximately two hours from start to finish, allowing damaged teeth to be restored cost-effectively in just one visit.

About Dr. Lee
Dr. Lee received a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, cum laude, from the University of Washington in Seattle. She then earned a Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Dental Medicine.

In addition, Dr. Lee has received certifications in CEREC CAD-CAM 3D, the Odyssey diode laser, Invisalign and the Dawson Academy. She is an active member of the Academy of Laser Dentistry, the Massachusetts Dental Society, and the American Dental Association.
