Mercedes Benz Sweeps to Victory at the World Car Awards

At this year’s World Car Awards Mercedes almost swept the board. The German car manufacturer won three out of the five awards on offer.

Birmingham, West Midlands -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/06/2015 -- Mercedes' hat trick came as a huge surprise to many in the industry, but it is a reflection of how well this car manufacturer is regarded by consumers. The C-class won the World Car of the Year award, the S-Class Coupe took home the World Luxury Car award and the AMG GT was named as the World Performance Car of the Year.

The World Car Awards are highly regarded. These awards definitely influence the vehicles people actually end up buying, so Mercedes should see a significant rise in sales after winning these awards. The majority of those who buy used cars in Birmingham are not in the market for an S Class Mercedes. Demand for luxury used cars is growing in the city as the economic recovery begins to be felt there. Both new and used luxury car dealers in the city have seen an increase in consumer interest over the past six months.

Sales of luxury cars are once again growing in the UK, and in many other parts of the world. After nearly five flat years, 2014 was a good year for luxury car manufacturers.

Overall sales of luxury cars grew in the UK during 2014. Much of that growth came from fleet buyers who are once again buying luxury marks like Mercedes, Jaguar and Audi. There has also been a growth in demand for luxury cars from small business owners.

In 2015, private car owners are also expected to buy more luxury vehicles than they have done in the past five years. This is in part because of the economic recovery, but the fact that many can now release significant fund from their private pensions is also expected to boost demand for the sector.

BMW and Citroen took home the other two awards. The BMW i8 was a surprise in the environmentally friendly category. It won the World Green Car of the Year award. Citroen's C4 Cactus was the only non-German vehicle to win an award. The designers of the innovative Citroen won the World Car Design of the Year.

Demand for UK Luxury Cars Grows, Says SMMT

The latest export figures from the UK’s luxury car producers show an incredible increase in demand for their vehicles.

Birmingham, West Midlands -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/07/2015 -- The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reported that exports of luxury cars from the UK had soared over the past five years. Sales to Asia alone have trebled in just five year.

Europeans seem to be keen to buy luxury cars made in the UK too, sales rose by 158.3% between 2009 and 2014. For Australia, the figure was an increase of 130.9% and exports to the USA sales were up by 59.9%. The only continent for which exports fell was Africa. For that area exports fell by 17.6% between 2009 and 2014.

All of the UK's luxury car manufacturers are planning to build on this success. At the Geneva motor show Rolls Royce, Bentley and Aston Martin all announced plans to expand during the next decade and export more. They all launched new models and all of the firms were upbeat about the opportunities that the next decade offers.

They all plan to market their new models in the UK, but are expecting most of the cars that they build to be shipped abroad. Although they do also expect demand for luxury cars from the UK market to grow as well as the UK comes out of recession.

Demand for luxury cars is starting to feed through into the used car market. A significant proportion of the used cars for sale in the Midlands and the South East of the UK are luxury marks, and there are plenty of buyers around too. Reports from those dealers who specialise in selling used luxury cars indicate that sales are up and that the average time that a car sits on their forecourt is down by at least two weeks.

As people in the UK start to feel the positive effects from economic growth, near zero inflation and dropping fuel prices sales of all kinds of cars are xpected to grow. There are early signs that 2015 will be another record year for both new and used car dealerships in the UK.

'A Cars UK' Says, Luxury Car Sales Rise in 2014 for UK Car Dealers

The number of luxury cars sold to fleet owners rose sharply in 2014.

Birmingham, West Midlands -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/10/2015 -- For UK car dealers 2014 was a particularly good year. After several years of low sales, both the new and used car markets have recovered. Sales of fleet and private vehicles have both been stronger than in previous years.

Growth in the private sector has been marginally stronger than it has been for the fleet sector. In 2014, there were 1,179,499 new car registrations in the private sector. That equates to 9.8% more registrations than in 2013.

Across the fleet sector, registrations were up by 9.3% with 1,178,416 new registrations during 2014. In addition, small business owners registered 120,000 new vehicles. That sector grew by 12% year on year.

The rise in sales in the private sector has been fueled mainly by an improvement in consumer confidence combined with easier access to affordable finance. Unemployment is falling, and drops in the price of food and fuel are both helping to put more cash into the pockets of UK households who it seems are choosing to use some of that spare cash to buy new cars.

Business confidence is behind the rise in fleet purchases. UK firms are once again investing.

Interestingly, much of the growth in the fleet market has taken place at the top end of the market. Sales of prestige cars have risen steadily during 2014. Luxury car dealers in Birmingham and other large UK cities have seen demand for their vehicles rise across both the private and fleet sectors.

Sales of Mercedes models in the fleet sector were especially strong during 2014. In 2013, 884 new S class Mercedes were sold to fleet owners. During 2014, 1,335 new S class Mercedes were added to corporate fleets, which is an increase of 51%. Sales of E class Mercedes fell back slightly, dropping by 2.2%. Once again, sales of the Jaguar XJ increased year on year increasing by 32.6%. Audi sales were also up by 15.2%.

It is expected that 2015 will be another strong year for luxury car sales. Although, industry experts expect the growth rate to be slower than it was in 2014.

According to SMMT, British New Car Sales Hit a Three-Year High

After six years of difficult trading conditions, sales of new cars have started to take off again in the UK.

Birmingham, West Midlands -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/10/2015 -- The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) expect to see strong sales for new cars in the UK. If the figures that are due to be released on the 5th of March 2015 do show the expected growth this will be the 36th consecutive month of growth for the UK auto trade.

During 2014, the number of new cars sold in the UK reached a ten-year high. In total, private individuals and UK based firms registered 2,476,435 new vehicles.

These figures fell just short of the all time high of 2,579,050 new car sales in a year, which happened in 2013. Prior to 2014, new car sales were lower than normal. The downward trend started at the end of 2008 when the financial crisis hit.

There are several reasons for this unexpected growth in new car sales. Car dealers in Birmingham and many other parts of the UK are benefiting mainly from improved consumer confidence. The public has more cash in their pockets than they have had for over six years. Falling food and fuel prices and low interest rates coupled with higher levels of employment are all contributing to improving consumer confidence.

Better availability of credit is also helping to fuel demand for both new and used cars in the UK. Interest rates are low, which is making finance easier for people to afford.

Currently the UK is the strongest market for new cars in Europe. In the rest of Europe, there is growth, but it is weak when compared to the UK.

Sales of used cars are also back at pre-recession levels. It is expected that growth will continue in 2015 although the pace of growth is expected to be slower than it was in 2014. Many of the consumers who have held back from making large purchases during the recession have already taken the step of buying themselves a new vehicle in 2014, so there is a slightly smaller pool of potential customers available for car dealers to target than there was in 2014.
