Survey Says, Luxury Car Sales on the Rise Again

Fleet owners are once again buying luxury cars in huge numbers.

Buckie, Banffshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/06/2015 -- The luxury car market has both struggled and benefited from the recession. Sales at the top end of the market usually rise in a recession as the super rich get richer and want to spend the money they earn rather than invest. With low interest rates, there is little point in saving, so the super rich normally buy higher price goods including luxury cars. However, sales at the lower end of the luxury car spectrum tend to drop off as the middle class is squeezed and businesses cut back on their overheads.

For the UK's luxury car dealers 2014 was a good year. Sales of luxury cars across the spectrum in both the private and fleet sectors took off during the year. However, the fleet sector has seen the biggest growth. During 2014, many UK businesses started to feel more confident about the future, and they are responding by investing in better quality fleet vehicles.

Sales of Mercedes demonstrates this trend, sales of this high quality mark were strong during 2014. During 2013, 884 S class Mercedes were registered by fleet owners. In 2014, that figures was 1,335, which was an increase of 51%. However, sales of the E class Mercedes were not as good.In fact sales of this model dropped by 2.2%.

Jaguar have also benefitted from increased demand from the fleet sector. Sales of the Jaguar XJ for this sector were up by 32.6% year on year. Audi fleet sales also rose by 15.2% during 2014.

Demand from the fleet sector as a whole grew in 2014. Registrations from this sector rose by 9.3%. During 2014, 1,178,416 new cars were registered by fleet owners. The small business owner sector saw the biggest growth. Demand for this sector alone increased by 12%.

The number of fleet registrations virtually matched those for the private sector during 2014. There were 1,179,499 new private registrations. That was also an increase on the year before. There were 9.8% more private new car registrations than during 2013.

Car dealers in Banffshire, and most other parts of the UK, are anticipating growth during 2015, and that expectation has certainly been met during the first three months of the year. The general election is likely to have a braking effect during April and May, but sales should take off again after that.

Ford Celebrated Production of Its Five Millionth EcoBoost Engine

In March 2015, Ford celebrated the fact that they had produced their five millionth EcoBoost engine driven vehicle.

Buckie, Banffshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/07/2015 -- The EcoBoost engine was launched in 2009 in the US. It was introduced to the European market in 2010. Today, one in four Ford's sold have an EcoBoost engine. The most popular version is the 1.0 litre that was named as International Engine of the Year for three years running.

This engine ticks all of the boxes. It boosts the performance of an engine delivering more power and torque than other similar sized engines while at the same time reducing the fuel used by 20%. These factors combined result in a reduction of greenhouse emissions of around 15%. This is an irresistible combination for modern consumers, which has changed the way many in the UK buy a new car.

As an example, car sales in Buckie were given a boost when the new engines were introduced. The main dealership in this Scottish town is a Ford garage so many of the drivers in the area drive Fords. Many people in the town clock up a lot of miles because they have to travel long distances to get access to services because the town is located a long way from cities, so fuel economy is a big consideration when buying a car there. When the EcoBoost was launched there, the word spread fast and there was a spike in new car sales in the area.

Ford has recently announced that they plan to develop the EcoBoost engine further. The firm believes that they have enough knowledge to continue to develop and improve the EcoBoost engine for the next ten years. While other car manufacturers focus primarily on hybrid engines Ford will put most of their efforts into developing their EcoBoost technology further.

However, the firm is still moving forward in the hybrid and electric car markets. They plan to expand their hybrid range in Europe and North America.

Pressure on consumers budgets and concerns about greenhouse gases will help to drive sales of all of these eco friendly vehicles. The increasingly tight emissions regulations that governments are putting into place will also drive sales.

Ford Tops the UK Fleet Car Tables Again Says SMMT

Once again, Ford made the majority of the fleet vehicles purchased in the UK

Buckie, Banffshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/16/2015 -- In 2013, 156,106 new Ford models were sold to UK fleet owners. This made the manufacturer the most popular for fleet vehicles. In 2014, 164,901 new Fords were added to company fleets.

This means that the American car firm manufactured 50.5% of the new fleet vehicles registered in 2014. Sales of Ford cars to the business and car hire sectors were up by 5.6% year on year.

This doubled the gap between Ford and their nearest rival Vauxhall. In 2013, 12,611 fewer Vauxhalls were registered than Fords. Last year, 23,122 more new Fords were registered than Vauxhalls. However, despite this Ford's market share of the overall UK fleet market fell slightly from 14.4% to just 14%.

The majority of the Fords registered were Ford Fiestas and Ford Focuses. The American firm also has a strong presence in the MPV sector. Sales of the Ford C-max, B-max and S-max models mean that overall Ford dominates the MPV fleet sector. The Citroen C4 Picasso beat the C-max into second place, but Ford vehicles occupied three out of the top five slots.
About Moravian Motors
Car dealers from Banffshire, in Scotland, right down to Cornwall saw demand for fleet vehicles in general grow during 2014. Many in the car industry including the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) predicted this growth. After years of slow sales many car industry experts predicted that the moment UK businesses had more money available and growing sales they would immediately invest in new equipment and fleet, which is exactly what happened.

In 2015, growth is expected to continue. However, the SMMT are saying that it is difficult to predict just how strong that growth will be. There is a chance that interest rates will rise at the end of 2015. If that were to happen firms are likely to slow down the rate at which they invest in an effort to avoid high interest bills, so growth in fleet sales could be slower than it was in 2014.
