Honda UK Manufacturing (HUM) Announced Investing of £200m in Their Swindon Plant

Honda of the UK Manufacturing (HUM) is asking their suppliers to invest in their businesses to provide them with better supply chain flexibility.

Glasgow, South Lanarkshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/24/2015 -- In March, HUM announced that they would be investing £200m in their Swindon plant. This investment in the South Marsden plant, which is located on Highworth Road, is expected to create 3,000 jobs.

The investment has been made to allow the firm to turn the Swindon plant into the main production hub for the new Civic. Production of the next generation Civic is due to begin in summer 2016.

Currently the plant uses several local suppliers. Local component suppliers expect the Honda plant to drastically increase their orders. In response, many suppliers are already in the process of preparing for this expected uplift in demand.

Dr Renaud Durand, who is a manufacturing sector consultant, has highlighted the fact that the expansion of the Honda plant will only be successful if suppliers can respond quickly enough to the increase in demand. The announcement by Honda has definitely created confidence in the minds of suppliers and their investors, but they still face challenges. Honda will only be able to step up production at the necessary pace if their suppliers can keep up with the plant's changing needs.

Demand for Hondas made in the UK is already strong, and that demand is expected to continue to grow in the near future. Growing numbers of consumers are looking for either a new or used Honda in Glasgow and in other large UK cities. Dealers have seen demand grow steadily and the fact that some Honda models are manufactured in the UK is definitely something that makes them attractive to buyers. Increasingly, people are keen to support the UK's economy, which they know is struggling, which means that they do take into consideration where the vehicle is built when making their purchasing decision.

Most manufacturers are already taking steps to increase their efficiency and are investing in new plant and training. However, with production of the new Civic to start in just over the year suppliers are having to move fast to ensure that they are ready in time to meet Honda's increasing needs.

Vauxhall Unveils New Driver Assistant System at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show

At this year’s Geneva Motor Show Vauxhall unveiled their new version of their driver assistance system.

Glasgow, South Lanarkshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/25/2015 -- The new system is a comprehensive package that includes emergency response notification, an anti-theft system as well as a new mobile network service. Vauxhall is already leading the field in this area of car technology and there is evidence that these new in car systems are helping to boost sales.

Currently, around 7 million people use their in car systems. The system is in use in the North American markets of Canada, the US and Mexico as well as China. Vauxhall plan to make their latest version – Vauxhall OnStar more widely available than the current systems. It will be available first in the UK with the support team being based in Luton. At the push of a button, drivers will be able to summon assistance from that support centre in the case of a breakdown or accident.

Whilst consumers appreciate the practical aspects of the system, the main selling point in North America and China is the ability to provide Wi-Fi connectivity for up to sevendevices. In car entertainment has been a big selling point for decades, and continues to be an important part of the purchasing decision, today.

As well as unveiling the new system, Vauxhall launched their new city car at the show. The new car is called the Viva, a name that Vauxhall used for one of their models between 1963 and 1979.

The new vehicle will be available in the spring of 2015. It will retail at £7,000, which makes it a highly affordable car. It is anticipated that many of Vauxhall's existing customers will trade in their current compacts for the new model releasing thousands of much needed used cars into the car market. This means that buying a used Vauxhall in Glasgow and the rest of the UK will become easier as more used Vauxhalls flood onto the market.

Currently, there is a shortage of used cars. During the latter part of 2014, demand for used cars in the UK started to increase, which has left used car dealers struggling to re-stock. In the spring, several manufacturers are releasing new models, at which point new stock will once again become easier to secure for used car dealers.
