The Mail Online Reveals Huge Drop in European Nurses: Garth Coates Solicitors Comments

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/22/2017 -- The Mail Online has recently revealed that the number of nurses registering to work in the UK has dropped by a staggering 292% following the controversial Brexit vote. In July 2016, directly after the referendum 1,304 European nurses registered to work in the UK, however by December that number had decreased to just 101 – which is truly deviating news considering that there's not enough nursing staff available in the UK, with over 24,000 nursing vacancies currently being advertised. Experts are warning that it this trend continues, the NHS could begin to suffer tragically.

The chief executive of the Royal College or Nursing has in line with this spoken out saying that the NHS simply would not be able to cope without the contribution of EU nurses, going on to say that she believes a guarantee is needed showing that going forward EU nationals working in the NHS will remain. Without this guarantee it is much harder for the NHS to recruit staff from the EU and as a result patient care is suffering which is not acceptable.

A spokesperson from one the UK's leading immigration solicitors, Garth Coates, were incredibly keen to comment on this dreadful news saying, "This is devastating news to all, and not only to those at the NHS but also everyone whom is entitled to NHS care. We thoroughly hope that a guarantee will be made soon, allowing for European nurses to start registering to work in the UK again, but until them we are here to offer all leading immigration advice and guidance. If anyone has any questions regarding moving to the UK for work, we are only a phone call away."

International Students Shy Away from UK: Garth Coates Comments

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/18/2017 -- For years students from all over the world have been flocking to top UK universities to study, with a multitude of people each year wishing to study and earn their degree in the UK. In 2014-15 for example, a huge 437,000 students came to the UK to study from overseas. However, the number of students eager to study in the UK has now started to decrease.

Recent reports have stated that the government is considering cutting international student numbers by nearly half – due to new immigration targets set by the Prime Minister Theresa May. This has unsettled many foreign students from within the EU scared that they're going to be left stranded, however those outside the EU have started to shy away from the thought of studying in the UK altogether, opting to study in alternative, more welcoming countries with grit universities such as the US and Australia.

A spokesperson from one of the most leading immigration solicitors was incredibly keen to comment saying, "It is really sad that a number of people are now reconsidering studying in the UK, due to the new immigration targets, however we want to ensure that everyone knows that this does not mean that there are not able to study in the UK if they so wish and that should they require further information or want to get their applications off to the best start possible that they contact a leading team specialising in immigration soliciting such as ourselves today."

Immigrants Could Soon Be Expected to Learn English Before Coming to Britain: Garth Coates Comments

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/12/2017 -- According to a recent parliamentary report, immigrants could soon be expected to learn the English language before coming to Britain, or alternatively be enrolled on to compulsory language classes upon arrival. This has come about through the intentions of uniting all together and putting an end to the divided communities throughout Britain. It is thought that if everyone could speak English in Britain, people would be more likely to come together as one, with fewer isolated groups. Going forward a number of ministers are contemplating whether or not immigrants intending on settling in Britain should have to swear an "integration oath", and trying to come up with a concrete plan for immigration in the future.

Many people consider being able to speak English the key to full participation in our society and economy, as well as a means of communicating with Britons, allowing for not only the British economy to strive, but also immigrants to settle better while feeling more at home. Net migration to the UK is currently as high as it may have ever been, and if these changes come into place it is thought that not only will migration slow down, but also that those coming will be able to live fuller lives, within communities that are able to mix and welcome them impeccably.

A spokesperson from one leading UK immigration solicitors was incredibly keen to comment saying, "Although these plans have been proposed, they are not in place yet, so we want to urge all whom can't speak English and are in the immigration process not to worry and continue as normal. With immigration laws changing on a frequent basis, it is often best practice for those looking to migrate to utilise the services of an immigration solicitor such as ourselves, who will not only be able to assist in ensuring that they know all of the correct and relevant information but also in many cases speed up the process."

With hopes to allow the Capital to maintain access to quality foreign labour, business leaders have recently outlined their vision of a London-only visa.

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/18/2016 -- New proposals from the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry have suggested that going forward companies in London should still be allowed to sponsor skilled and in many cases much needed migrant workers with job offers for visas. London's economic success is heavily dependent on immigrant labour so it is likely that this is something in which the government will consider.

If these London-only visas were to come into place, recipients would be provided with London-specific national insurance numbers that would deter them from working in other regions of the UK. If these people were to lose their jobs, people holding these visas would have a maximum of sixty days to find another one before being deported. In addition to this, the businesses seeking foreign labour would have to be able to prove that they're unable to recruit locally, which is commonly the case for a multitude of reasons.

A spokesperson from one of the leading immigration solicitors in London, Garth Coates Solicitors, was keen to comment saying, "We think that there is absolutely no doubt that foreign workers are needed within many industries and that without these workers many companies would most definitely face failure and closure. Here a Garth Coates we are going to be keeping a close eye on this issue and the proposals therefore if anyone requires any guidance or has any immigration related questions we would like them to know that we're only a phone call away."

Clampdown on Immigration: Garth Coates Comments

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/26/2016 -- It has recently been reported that many businesses fear a shortage of staff due to the clampdown of immigration, research has shown that job roles such as accountants, bricklayers and toolmakers aren't being filled. Amber Rudd, the home secretary, proposed that companies should notify them regarding how many foreign workers they hire, however, this received a lot of criticism from business leaders around the UK, because it had previously been reported that before Brexit the UK was already struggling with a shortage of talent, therefore needed foreign workers in an array of areas, for example, healthcare, architects, scientists and even engineering.

A spokesperson from immigration and nationality law specialists Garth Coates was keen to comment saying, "It is important that people realise how beneficial immigrants are, they contribute to our economy in many ways and this recent news portrays this. Many people don't know that 17% of the UK workforce consists of non-UK born workers and 19% of the NHS workers are non- British staff. If you're struggling and need help regarding any of our services, then please do not hesitate to give us a call today."

The Independent Highlights Things That Immigrants Do for the UK: Garth Coates Comments

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/19/2016 -- The Independent has recently revealed what immigrants do for the UK– highlighting things which Conservative ministers seem to be currently ignoring. Many people don't understand how migrant workers positively contribute to the UK economy and The Independent's recently published article informs these people of the many benefits of immigrants and also aspects which would make the UK struggle without them, including but not limited to the following:

- 17% of the UK workforce consists of non-UK born workers

- Immigrant workers are vital for a number of sectors and without these workers damaging economic side effect could occur. For example, construction organisations have already warned that without migrant labour projects simply couldn't get completed

- The NHS could collapse without its non-British staff whom make up a huge 19% of the workforce

- Overseas students contribute a huge £11.8billion to the UK economy each year

- Immigrants are far less likely to claim benefits that those born in the UK and are much more likely to work

A spokesperson from leading immigration solicitors Garth Coates was keen to comment saying, "Immigration is vital for the UK economy and we are always so happy when we see articles highlighting this – enabling ignorant people to realise the importance of immigrants. As immigration specialists here at Garth Coates we are always happy to assist those who require guidance and urge anyone unsure of what steps need to be taken, to contact us for leading support."

Illegal Working and Right to Work: Garth Coates Comments

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/23/2016 -- The rules regarding immigration status and the right to work currently in the UK are really quite complex and some could argue that they are in many cases uneven, therefore whenever in doubt it is vital that professional immigration advice is taken. People whom hold Indefinite Leave to Remain are allowed to work without any restrictions and the majority of EU and EEA nationals for the time being have such an unfettered right to work also, even those whom are from outside the EEA.

In some cases UK visa holders also have the right to work although depending on which visa is carried, restrictions may be in place and it is important for all to understand thoroughly what they are and are not allowed to do before starting work. Some people however, such as illegal entrants are not allowed to work.

With such a plethora of different visas available, all with different requirements, it is not only important for all to understand there visa fully, but also for employers and business owner to understand the complexity, as these people can also get into trouble should they employ someone illegally, even if they do not do this purposely.

A spokesperson from one of the UK's immigration solicitors Garth Coates was keen to comments saying, "Here are Garth Coates we are dominating specialists when it comes to immigration and nationality law and are therefore able to assist all looking to obtain the visas that they wish for and also offer advice to all. We do urge all employers however to ensure that they have a reasonable understanding of the issues surrounding illegal employment in order to avoid harsh penalties going forward."

British Citizens Could Need Visa's to Travel to Europe: Garth Coates Comments

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/22/2016 -- Home Secretary Amber Rudd has recently announced that Britain was engaged in a two-way negotiation with the EU and was unable to guarantee that following Brexit visa-free travel within Europe would be protected. This means that soon people living in Britain could have to apply for and obtain travel visas when looking to holiday in popular European destinations.

A number of reports have suggested that the document which would be needed to travel within Europe would coast around fifty pounds, which is relatively inexpensive in comparison with some other visas, however still quite a lot for those simply looking to go away for a weekend. Nothing though is for definite, and like with many things that have come along with the Brexit decision, we will have to sit back and wait to see.

A spokesperson from leading immigration solicitors Garth Coates was keen to comment on the possibility of these visas saying, "With nothing clear-cut going forward, there is not much that anyone can do at the moment, other than be patience and await the decision. Maybe now is a good time for everyone to go on holiday to Europe though. Here at Garth Coates we have a deep understanding of visas of a wide variety and how they work and are available to talk to over the phone should anyone have any questions."

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/24/2016 -- An official watchdog has revealed a surge in the number of individuals entering Britain illegally in the back of lorries, with Home Office staff reporting that illegal lorry drops alone kept them so busy last year that other immigration enforcement activities had to take a back seat, including tackling human trafficking and more.

Independent inspector of borders and immigration David Bolt has spoken out saying that the number of the people that entered Britain inside the back of lorries has almost tripled, rising from 2,411 in 2014 to 6,429 in 2015. With such a drastic increase in illegal lorry drops, and other areas being neglected because of this, further difficulties could occur going forward unless the number starts to see a decrease.
A spokesperson form leading immigration solicitors Garth Coates was keen to comment saying, "We urge people looking to enter the UK to contact us today, as we could be able to assist in allowing you do so - legally.
Immigration Separation Impacts Human Rights

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/16/2016 -- The UK's immigration control practices and policies saw a whopping 32,446 people detained in 2015 by the UK government for a variety of reasons. Some were held whilst under investigation and possible deportation and just over half were released back into the community without further issues. What is not generally understood about the figures is that many of the detainees had lived in the UK for decades and who had settled a long time ago with families and to have children. Most of the detentions were seemingly pointless but caused undue distress and disruption to not only the detainees, but their loved ones and children.

The detention used with immigration is set without limits meaning that the UK government doesn't need to obtain court permission to detain someone. The length of time the person can be detained for stretches from one month to over two years. Human rights activists and lobbyists have been fighting for this to be changed for a long time, as yet to no avail.

A spokesperson for Garth Coates Solicitors commented "It is against human rights for someone to be detained for so long without a judge's permission and the impact on families and particularly the children of parents detained is devastating. It is hoped that this breach of rights is addressed properly to prevent mental health issues in young children of detainees. It is a well known fact that trauma can create a whole host of issues in child development."

UK Asylum Refusal for Refugee Children

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/24/2016 -- The UK Conservative government has come under fire from critics and activists in an update to the UK Immigration Bill, stating that just 600 Syrian refugee children should be accepted into the UK over the next five years.

The amendment has outraged ministers who claim that many children will be put at risk of being separated and possibly at risk of trafficking by attempting dangerous crossings to Europe. The Government claims that enough is being done to assist with the crisis in Europe with the provision of humanitarian aid; however, ministers claim it simply isn't enough.

David Cameron in January of this year claimed that 3,000 children deemed at risk in refugee camps would be allowed into Britain, however only a small number of these have thus far been allowed entry. Those deemed to be illegally entering the UK will face up to six months imprisonment and companies will face strict closures or license removals should they be found to employ people without the proper documentation.

Under the 2014 Dublin agreement, the Home Office has granted asylum to 20 unaccompanied children whilst at the same time it has deported 740 people since the regulations came into power.

A spokesperson for Garth Coates Solicitors commented "The situation we are facing with regards to displaced children is absolutely dire. Direct and adequate action needs to be taken to ensure the safety of these children and to prevent them from coming to harm."

£4m Payout for Illegally Detained Refugees

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/28/2016 -- In excess of £4 million pounds has been granted in compensation from the Government following the illegal detention of people in immigration detention centres between 2014-15.

The shocking news came to light following a freedom of information request by the BBC who also uncovered that a jaw dropping £18 million pounds total was also paid out over the course of the three previous years.

Hundreds of thousands cross through UK detention centres every year including prisoners of foreign decent, asylum seekers who have failed checks and deportees. It is reported that 60% of the 32,000 people who are processed in the centres were released into the community which highlights the failings of the system.

The Government has previously stated that it is committed to treating detainees with dignity and respect however, this is not the first time that damages have been awarded due to breaches of EU law.

A spokesperson for Garth Coates Solicitors commented "It is a very sad and critical situation and the government must address the issue from the top down. These centres clearly don't work effectively and for people to be detained illegally is simply not acceptable. Pressure needs to be put on government to deal with the ongoing and rising numbers of refugees."

International Student Market Is Under Threat

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/21/2016 -- The UK is currently losing a substantial share of the international student market to its competitors such as Canada and Australia - Could the Conservative governments' immigration policy be to blame? Yes.

Visa requirements have been tightened and new rules put in place, making it harder for non-EU graduates to stay and work within the UK after their courses have finished. In turn there has been a fall in enrollments this year and students are opting to study in other, more welcoming countries – according to a number of reports. The only thing that has stopped this news from being more dramatic is the influx of students from China that we are seeing.

With international students contributing over £7billion to the UK economy, The Higher Education Funding Council for England have already warned that if any further falls occur university finances could see a significant risk.

Keen to comment on this were immigration solicitors Garth Coates and a spokesperson had this to say:

"The number of study visas issued last year dropped by 2.6% in the UK and although may seem unfortunate, there are fortunately a number of immigration solicitors such as ourselves to assist anyone looking to both study and work in the UK."

Supportive Schools Forge a Sense of Belonging for Immigrant Children: Garth Coates Comments

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/29/2016 -- According to a recent report from The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) which conducted research across a number of UK schools, it was shown that around 82% of children of immigrants felt comfortable and 'at home' in their school. This high statistic could suggest positive levels of societal integration for children from immigrant families and confirmation that the UK can be a supportive place for families to develop study and grow. Keen to comment on this have been a number of immigration experts, including Garth Coates.

The report emphasizes that immigration involving families can be part of a positive process and also reflects that public institutions, such as schools, are responding well to this. That such high levels of indicated satisfaction are shown at a grassroots stage – the school environment – could suggest that UK society is really progressing with a more positive and crucial attitude to immigration. Garth Coates are prominent immigration specialists who had this to say:

"The high percentage of children from immigrant families satisfied from their school environment is significantly high and shows clear improvement over time. We are confident that the UK is developing as a multi-cultural, diverse and yet inclusive society; both for families and single individuals. Furthermore, there are strong connections between educational environments and a positive immigration process – take the number of overseas students studying successfully here, for example."

Increasing Visitor Numbers to the UK Emphasizes Importance of Getting the Right Visa

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/22/2016 -- Recent figures from the Office For National Statistics have shown that visitor numbers from people overseas to the UKL has increased since 2014, and in turn is expected to rise further this year. The UK is after all a popular tourist destination and people often travel to visit family. In 2015 visitors to the UK were at 35.8 million, which shows a 4% increase from 2014.

The statistics also show that it is the sixth year-on-year consecutive increase of overseas visitor numbers; which has led to increased attention on the legislation regarding visiting and the processes behind it. It is essential, for example, that all prospective visitors have the correct documentation in place – if from outside the EU this will typically take the form of a visitor Visa – and understand it too.

Keen to comment on rising visitor numbers and the importance of getting the documentation right was Garth Coates, an immigration solicitor and legal expert. A spokesperson had this to say:

"Increased overseas visitors to the UK can bring great gains to the economy and allows people to experience the vibrant cultures of our country. What matters, in order for these visits to occur in a structured and well-managed way, is that all applicable have a fully up-to-date visitor visa. Having a visa and understanding the terms of it is essential when visiting the UK and that is why at Garth Coates we offer a comprehensive visitor Visa service."

Initiatives Underway to Address Dramatic Decline in Indian Students Applying to the UK

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/24/2016 -- A recent report in The Financial Times has drawn attention to what has been a considerable fall in the number of students from India applying to further their studies in UK universities, especially over the course of the past year. A proposed response has been put forward by Boris Johnson, who has suggested a 'Commonwealth visa programme'. Rather than a post-study work visa per se, this will be an option at first only available to Indian citizens, and then potentially extended to other Commonwealth nationals afterwards. These suggestions show the need for proactive steps to be taken into managing immigration in an inclusive way which lays out opportunities for all. However, it also highlights the often-changing nature of immigration law and thus the need for people to have a reliable source of information on this issue.

The developments regarding Indian students does emphasize the complex nature of immigration law, as well as the importance of overseas students to academic institutions in the UK. The attention paid to students especially suggests that a healthy encouragement of student applicants is important – something expert legal firm Garth Coates was keen to comment on:

"It is important that all overseas students who are eligible to study in the UK feel that they have a fair opportunity to do so. Adapting existing legislation may well be part of this, as is being suggested by Boris Johnson and other senior figures. That's why at Garth Coates Solicitors we provide all who are interested with the most up-to-date information."

Immigration Controls on Skilled Workers Hurting the Economy – Garth Coates Solicitors Comments

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/27/2015 -- Garth Coates Solicitors has commented on the news that the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has urged the government to allow more highly skilled workers into the country by relaxing immigration controls.

The OECD report concluded that company-sponsored visas are restricting economic growth by limiting the number of highly skilled workers who are allowed to work in the UK.

The current quota, which caps said visas at 20,700, was introduced by Theresa May but has been a target of criticism for businesses since its implementation, which companies claiming it hinders growth prospects.

CBI director-general, John Cridland, said: "The target should be scrapped, and businesses should work with the government to provide better vocational education and in-work training, which will help to drive up living standards by increasing productivity."

Business secretary, Vince Cable, explained: "Foreign workers not only stimulate growth for British business by introducing new ideas and innovations, but bring their unique overseas networks and cultural knowledge to drive expansion for their company abroad."

OECD in their UK survey stated: "Policies to favour a knowledge-based economy could include encouraging highly qualified immigrants to work and live in the UK, which would help to address skill shortages and to boost labour productivity.

"To that end, the government should ease quotas on company-sponsored visas, which were introduced between 2008 and 2010 at a time of low labour demand, but are too restrictive for the tightening labour market."

Garth Coates Solicitors, one of London's specialist immigration solicitors, also added to the debate, backing calls for the UK to loosen immigration and allow more highly skilled workers into the country.

A spokesman for the company said: "Highly skilled workers are of real benefit to the UK, and while there's often debate and controversy surrounding immigration in itself, few would deny that allowing highly skilled workers into the country has anything but a positive effect on the general economy.

"Competing in a global marketplace is essential in the 21st century and allowing the cream of the crop in their respective industries to come to the UK and strengthen our industries is something we support. Company-sponsored visa quotas are getting in the way and should be relaxed now that the economy is in growth and unemployment is going down."
