Glasgow, Scotland -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/01/2015 -- After test-driving the new Subaru Outback Ben Collins aka, The Stig, from Top Gear, declared it the "king of crossovers".

The professional stunt driver did not simply take the new Outback for a Sunday afternoon drive. He really pushed it and fully tested its capabilities. The former Top Gear Stig, and stunt driver, drove it to its limits during his test drive, which took place on Scottish roads. He carried out the test drive as part of a deal he has with The Telegraph to test drive popular vehicles and push them to the limit. His Subaru Outback test drive is the third in the series.

During the test drive, he took the vehicle off road as well as on road. It performed well in both environments and the new four-wheel drive system ensured that it transitioned well between the different terrains.

Not only did the car perform well it also proved comfortable. Mr Collins was particularly complementary when it came to the new interior and layout. He said that the layout was excellent, allowing the driver to relax and keep their eyes on the road and still be able to find all of the controls they needed because everything was so well laid out.

After completing his test drive Ben Collins said:

It seems that many other drivers in the UK agree with Ben Collins. Sales of the new Subaru Outback in Scotland and other more rugged parts of the UK are already strong. Interest is coming from all sorts of drivers, but it is definitely places where the landscape is rugged and the weather is mixed where sales are strongest. Scottish drivers in particular seem to like the idea of the new Outback by Subaru.

It is also selling well in Australia and Tasmania, where sales hit record breaking levels during the first two months of 2015.Again, it is the cars off road capabilities that is attracting buyers in those countries.

Glasgow, Scotland -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/31/2015 -- In 2015, Subaru launched their new Outback and it has been an almost instant success in many countries. In several countries, it is hard to find a new Outback because sales have outstripped demand.

Interestingly, the vehicle was engineered for use in Australia and that is where sales are at their strongest. Australians and Tasmanians are snapping up the new Outback in huge numbers.

In February alone, 890 were sold, which breaks the previous record of 829 units sold in March 2006. Sales of the previous Subaru Outback in February typically ran at around 250 units, so it is a remarkable rise in demand and proof that Subarua has the design 100% right for the Australian and Tasmanian markets.

Sales of the new Subaru Outback in Scotland are expected to be particularly strong when it launches in the UK this spring. Subaru dealers are reporting a lot of interest from their customer base and many have booked test drives in advance of the launch. Scotland's rugged countryside means that people are looking for family vehicles that are comfortable, but that also offer good off road capability, which the Outback does.

In certain markets, like North America, the fact that the Outback is so hard to find is leading to increased sales of the Forester. Consumers do not want to have to wait months for their new car, so are instead switching to another model. The Forrester offers more space and true off road capabilities for a similar price as the Outback, so is the natural second choice for many consumers.

According to Subaru America, sales of the Forrester have been running at over 10,000 units per month for the past 19 months. Whether that will start to happen in other markets remains to be seen, but there is little doubt that the Outback will sell well when it is launched in the UK in April.
