Trawden, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/29/2015 -- UK lingerie company, My Knickers, have recently commented on the new exhibition in Sydney, Australia, 'Undressed: 350 Years of Underwear in Fashion, which showcased a history of women's lingerie, from modest to racy.

The exhibition displays lingerie from the 1700's all the way to current brands worn by stars such as Emma Watson and Queen Victoria, making for a trip through a women's drawers over time. 81 pieces at the exhibition have been gathered from the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, with a section focussing on the famous dominatrix, Madame Lash.

This is the first time the display has been on full display for the public, with only brief parts of the collection shown previously at shows in Bendigo and Perth. The curator Edwina Ehrman said, 'The exhibition focusses on how important underwear has been since the 17th century right through to the present day. It looks at the way women have used underwear and garments to constrict their body. For instance, when it was desirable to have a slim waist or broaden their hips.'

Hygiene and keeping warm are also taken into consideration, with a display of underwear displayed to take these factors into account. The types of underwear are categorised into sections, making it easy for visitors to see the progression and purpose of the underwear on display.

77 mannequins are on display, showcasing 81 garments, meaning there is plenty of display to see how diverse women's underwear has been over the last 350 years.

The survey revealed surprising results within categorical selections, with just 26% of women saying that underthings are ''the core of my wardrobe and I enjoy shopping for them."
