Audi Announces Fresh Plug-in Hybrid System

Berkshire, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/01/2015 -- Audi will be outfitting its vehicles with a newly announced plug-in hybrid solution which combines electric and petrol engines for improved fuel efficiency.

Audi owners looking for a more cost-effective way to get around may already have examined the e-tron models offered by this German firm. But while previous options have combined an electric motor with a diesel engine, the freshly revealed system being developed at the moment will make a petrol hybrid available.

With a full launch expected at the Shanghai Motor Show this month, the new Audi Q7 e-tron 2.0 TFSI will showcase plug-in hybrid solution that the company has come up with, combining a pair of power plans to produce a maximum 362bhp output.

This will allow it to hit 62mpg in 5.9 seconds, while the top speed is thought to be somewhere in the region of 137mph. Thanks to the hybrid setup of the engine the fuel efficiency will around 94 miles per gallon in ideal circumstances, although the way the car is driven will play a big part in determining consumption levels.

Because this is a plug-in hybrid, it features onboard batteries that can be recharged in just two and a half hours. Meanwhile the smaller 2.0 litre petrol engine is being promoted as a positive feature thanks to the tax incentives that are offered for this kind of vehicle both in the UK and overseas.

The revised Q7 with the new e-tron system has not yet received a UK release date, but information should be available later this month.

Porsche Has Announced It Is Working on an All-Electric Model for the Near Future

Berkshire, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/07/2015 -- Porsche going all electric, Porsche has announced it is working on an all-electric model for the near future as part of its commitment to alternative fuelled vehicles. This programme includes hybrid, all-electric and fuel cell cars but details are scarce at this stage.

The purist Porsche buyer has been challenged over the years by the introduction of SUVs in the form of the Cayenne and more recently the Macan, and now is being asked to accept a clean and green car from the traditional sports car brand. Motor industry speculation suggests that the new all electric model would sit below the Panamera in the Porsche line up, taking on the Tesla Model S.

Porsche's parent company Volkswagen has made no secret of its development of fuel cell vehicles, having designed a scalable platform, the MQB, specifically to accept a range of powertrains.

Porsche has already experimented successfully with the potential of electric motors with the Panamera S E-Hybrid and its plug in hybrid 918 Spyder supercar. 918 units of the limited edition 918 Spyder are expected to be delivered in 2015. As a result, expectations will be high for a new all electric car.

When the new model reaches forecourts, Porsche owners ready to dive into the world of electric motoring will find a buyer for their old model at Uber GT.
