Madison, WI -- (ReleaseWire) -- 07/05/2017 -- Lake Geneva, Wisc. ranks as the second most expensive summer destination in the Midwest, according to a recent survey conducted by ChicagoHotels.org.

The survey compared all Midwestern destinations based on the minimum price travelers will have to spend, on average, to stay overnight in their cheapest available double room. The months of July and August 2017 served as the timeframe of comparison. Only centrally located hotels or inns rated at least 3 stars were taken under consideration.

At an average nightly rate of $207 for its least expensive room, Lake Geneva ranks as the survey's runner-up. More expensive is only Traverse City, a resort town located on the shores of Lake Michigan. There overnight guests will have to spend an average of $221 this summer.

Madison, Wisconsin's state capital, ranks sixth most expensive in the Midwest at an average cost of $182 per night for its most affordable room. A few dollars cheaper in seventh position is Chicago, the Midwest's largest city.

The following table shows the 10 most expensive summer destinations in the Midwest. The prices shown reflect the average rate for each destination's cheapest available double room for the time period spanning July 1st to August 30th, 2017.

Car Rentals: Philadelphia Most Expensive U.S. Destination to Rent a Car

Philadelphia, PA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 10/09/2015 -- Philadelphia has just earned the distinction of being the most expensive U.S. destination in which to rent a car.

CheapCarRental.net came to this conclusion after conducting a survey that compared the car rental rates of 50 destinations across the nation. The past 12 months served as the study period in determining the rankings.

In the City of Brotherly Love, car renters had to spend an average of $65 per day for the cheapest available rental car over the past year. Coming in a few dollars cheaper in the survey's second spot is New York City. Rounding out the top three, Detroit and Indianapolis share the survey's third spot at an average daily rate of $58.

It must mentioned that the rates are yearly average rates. This is an important distinction because rates fluctuate heavily in some destinations based on the season. Boston serves as a good case in point. There, a car could be snagged for less than $30 per day in early December. In comparison, a renter would have been unable to find a car for less than $80 during most of the month of August. Rates in Philadelphia have remained relatively stable, however, during the studied time period. Indeed, only rarely have car renters there paid less than $50 per day.

In contrast, Pittsburgh, the other Pennsylvanian destination considered by the survey, ranks in the survey's midfield. An average daily rental rate of $37 put it in the middle of the pack. Least expensive overall of all the destinations surveyed is Miami. In southern Florida's popular resort town, renters had to spend an average of only $20 per day to rent a car over the past year.

The following table shows the 10 most expensive U.S. car rental destinations. The prices shown reflect the average daily rate for the cheapest available rental car in each destination during the period spanning October 1, 2014 through September 30, 2015. Each city's main airport was chosen as the Pick-Up and Drop-Off location.

1. Philadelphia $65
2. New York $61
3. Detroit $58
4. Indianapolis $58
5. Austin $56
6. Charlotte $55
7. Cincinnati $53
8. St. Louis $53
9. Baltimore $52
10. Cleveland $52

Calistoga Listed Among USA's Most Expensive Spring Destinations

New York, NY -- (ReleaseWire) -- 04/10/2015 -- Visitors to California this spring will pay more to stay overnight in Calistoga than anywhere else in the state. According to the latest survey from CheapHotels.org, the Napa County city landed among the United States' most expensive destinations for travelers. In determining the rankings, the survey specifically looked at the lodging cost of all U.S. destinations during the month of April 2015.

For comparative purposes, the survey determined the minimum price a guest can expect to pay to stay in each destination's cheapest available room. That amount was then used to come up with the rankings. It must be pointed out that the survey focused exclusively on those hotels and inns that had a central location, had earned an overall rating of 2 stars or more and had garnered a positive average evaluation from previous guests.

In Calistoga, California, located in Napa County's wine region, visitors will have to spend an average of $176 per night for the least expensive double room. This price tag positions Calistoga among the nation's Top 10 most expensive spring destinations. Coming in ahead of it as the second and third most expensive locales are the Florida Keys' Islamorada and Key West. Average nightly rates of $203 and $219, respectively, pushed them into the number two and three slots. Charleston, South Carolina leads the rankings in the number one spot with an average rate of $221 per night.

Santa Monica, another California destination, also made it into the Top 10. With an average overnight price tag of $174 for the most affordable double room. The popular beachfront city ranks just behind Calistoga in ninth position.

The following table shows the 10 most expensive destinations in the USA this spring. The prices shown reflect the average rate for each destination's cheapest available double room for the time period spanning April 1–30, 2015.
