Shrink wrapping boats has been on the increase in recent years, as it provides an effective way to keep the vehicles safe when not in use, but typically when the boats are ready for the water once more, the shrink wrap is wasted. The new plan aims to make use of the shrink wrap when it comes off.

Once the shrink wrap is no longer needed when the boating seasons begins, it's now collected up and sent overseas to be converted into a new product, saving the environment in both waste and needed new materials to craft something.

The project has been ongoing for the last five years, but only now has the efforts vastly increased to make an impact rather than having little effect to the overall waste that used to make it downstream. A free drop off site is even available, which helps speed the process up as others in the area contribute.

The community outreach specialist of the program, Jeffrey Brodeur, said, 'We have a 30-yard roll-off container – basically a giant dumpster – on site for the next month and we are hopeful we can collect a lot of shrink wrap as the boating season begins. This is the first real attempt at this project so we are starting slow and, depending on how it goes, we hope to expand next year.'
