New Study Suggests That Shrink Wrap Can Be Part of a Sustainable Approach: Uwrap Reflects

Blackpool, Lancashire -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/22/2016 -- Shrink wrap can be considered and potentially incorporated into more sustainable initiatives, as van help reduce energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions when compared to other packaging materials – according to a recent study. Titled 'Impact of Impact of Plastics Packaging on Life Cycle Energy Consumption & Greenhouse Gas Emissions, although it has been carried out in the UK, the research is expected to have big implications on the UK, as a country looking to embrace greener initiatives when it comes to packing. Resultant figures showed that six types of plastic packing could be more environmentally-0friendly when compared to alternatives, with one of the types being shrink wrap. It is in turn expected that more UK businesses looking to be efficient and sustainable may opt for shrink wrap packaging as it can provide a highly versatile solution, across industries.

It is anticipated that shrink wrap is being considered as environmentally more efficient than other packaging alternatives as it only requires a small amount to provide quality coverage, it can be streamlined easily and this cuts down on waste, whilst recycled material could also be incorporated into a process.

UWrap is a provider of shrink wrap technologies and a spokesperson had this to say:

"Although the research was carried out in the US, its findings apply to the UK too – that shrink wrap can be part of sustainable packaging initiatives when properly considered. For example, our clients often comment that they've been able to cut down on the scale and bulk of their packaging, including cost, from when they start shrink wrapping."

New Experiments Show Shrink Wrap at the Forefront of Science

Blackpool, Lancashire -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/22/2016 -- Research at the University of Sydney over recent months involving shrinkable plastics – often in the form of shrink wrap – has drawn increased attention to the packing material, as well as its ability to be used in a variety of ways. Scientists have been using sheets of shrinkable plastics and adding Teflon to create a new superhydrophobic material: a plastic film which resists water. The result has been a gold-coloured film which water rolls away from – a highly exciting scientific development carried out using shrink wrap. It is thought that although the experimented material will not be commercially available for a while, more people may be tempted to try the properties of shrink wrap as product packaging.

The versatility of shrink wrap is clear also in that it provides a thin layer of plastic polymer film, therefore suitable for shaping and moulding. It also can provide some protection against moisture but the recent research has highlighted that it can be potentially taken one step better. Although the research was carried out in Australia, it has widespread implications for plastic packaging in the UK, especially shrink wrap.

UWrap is a key provider of shrink wrap solutions and a spokesperson had this to say:

"That shrink wrap is being used in cutting edge scientific experiments shows it's great potential and flexibility as a material. These are advantages people can incorporate into their product packaging and that is why we offer a wide range of machines."

Reducing the Weight of Packaging Opens Up New Consumer Opportunities: Uwrap Comments

Blackpool, Lancashire -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/25/2016 -- A new report released by the environmental newsletter Use Less Stuff (ULS) has revealed that packaging choices are increasingly driven by customer perceptions and requirements. Especially notable in 2016 is that customers are concentrating on sustainable and ethical solutions; associating this with quality. Hence there is pressure, in order to retain popularity, for packaging to be streamlined and minimizing wastage; hence why more customers than ever are equating a low packaging weight with a higher quality product. Therefore, making their packaging as sleek and efficient as possible could be considered the way forward for businesses wanting to attract further custom.

Ensuring that packaging is light and efficient can be carried out through a range of methods, though a popular and time-proven technique is through shrink wrapping. As the report also revealed that many packing designs are driven by customer perceptions, shrink wrap could be considered ideal as it offers a complete coverage yet still allows the consumer to see and interact with the product. It is also thin whilst offering a potentially air-tight seal. Keen to comment on the importance of shrink wrap and quality packaging for consumers was Uwrap, and a spokesperson had this to say:

"More people are picking products with a streamlined, slick packaging. Bulky, heavy packing is losing popularity for a range of reasons; it is not only cumbersome, but costs the environment and often is pricier for customers too. Shrink wrap moves away from excesses and provides a complete solution which can be lower on waste and weight, yet with plenty of versatility. That's why we provide a range of new and used shrink wrap machines here at Uwrap."

The Popularity of Personalized Shrink Wrap Means Big Things for Industry This Year

Blackpool, Lancashire -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/24/2016 -- Business analysts have been predicting a major trend in product packaging set to feature this year; personalised and patterned shrink wrap. This is following on from a number of notable businesses trying the technique in the run-up to Christmas; often to considerable positive reception. For example, Highland Spring, a popular brand of bottled water, launched festive shrink wrap which applied to many of its product packs. This proved especially popular and it is in turn expected that more businesses, particularly those involved in food in drink, will use shrink wrap as a design element, not just packaging.

Combining packaging with marketing as an effective tool for progress is already being raised as key to business growth this 2016. Plastic packaging such as shrink wrap incorporates this required flexibility, as well as sustainability, if used with recycling initiatives. Keen to comment on these predictions and how businesses can benefit from them was Uwrap, a shrink wrap machine provider. They are experienced in the field and a spokesperson had this to say:

"Many businesses took the festive opportunity to boost their packaging, particularly through shrink wrap complete with an effective design. As a great customer response was the result, it is expected that one way business can make a big impression this 2016 is by utilising shrink wrap and its excellent design capabilities whatever the season. Businesses can even get their own application machines and wrap as they like!"

New Colourant Technology Set to Transform Sustainable Plastic Use: Uwrap Comments

Blackpool, Lancashire -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/04/2016 -- In recent weeks there has been increased focus on the efficient use of packaging and cutting down waste, especially in light of the climate change talks in Paris towards the end of 2015. In 2016 sustainability is set to be a big focus particularly regarding plastic packaging – and developments are already being made within this. A new range of sortable colourants for plastic have been produced, patent pending, designed to help recover certain plastics from the waste process. This emphasizes that the sustainable use of plastics is at the forefront of attention going into 2016.

The proposed use of sortable colourants in plastics is a significant step, as shows moves to increase the efficiency of recycling by addressing the waste process directly. Co-ordinating plastics to these colours will allow recycling technology to determine what is recyclable and what is not. Currently, machines differentiate plastics passing through waste facilities by their polymer type, but by applying colourants to certain plastics which are perhaps harder to identify, this could co-ordinate even better to the machines. This may help to ensure that the recycling process remains free from contamination, as well ensuring that as many plastic products as possible suitable for recycling go through the process.

A number of businesses use plastic packaging and thus are expected to be under increasing pressure to streamline it and reduce wastage where possible. One popular method, also set to be big in 2016, is shrink wrap. This is the use of a plastic polymer film which is tightly applied to products using heat: therefore cutting down on excesses. A prime provider of shrink wrap machinery UWrap was keen to comment on this:

"The news on colourants shows that increasingly innovative ways of making the use of plastic packaging more sustainable is a big focus. An important part of this could be considered to be shrink wrapping, rather than opting for bulky plastic boxes and casing. Having a shrink wrap machine foryour business packaging can cut down on plastic wastage when compared to other bulkier methods. Here at Uwrap we provide a range of new and used wrapping machinery."

Jeremy Paxman Confirms His Appearance at the FPA Environment Seminar: UWrap Comments

Blackpool, Lancashire -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/22/2015 -- It appears that growing numbers of high-profile individuals are getting involved in promoting positive sustainable packaging, especially in the food industry. This could be seen as driven by concerns both for the environment and upholding cost-effectiveness for businesses. One of the most recent announcements is that Jeremy Paxman is set to speak at the Food PackagingAssociationEnvironment seminar, where he will be upholding his position as patron for Clean Up Britain.

The increased focus on sustainable packaging and managing related waste is important. A number of businesses have also responded to the growing emphasis on keeping packaging streamlined and efficient, rather than bulky and wasteful.

The seminar is set to take place at the St John's Hotel in Solihull on the 21st January in the New Year. This also emphasizes that 2016 is set to be a year of even more intensity around sustainable packaging – especially as following on from the G20 climate talks in Paris. It is expected that areas of discussion will include the efficiency of food packaging and the promotion of recycling.

Other speakers expected at the event include Helen McFarlane from McDonald's UK Environment Team and also the chief executive of Keep Scotland Beautiful, Derek Robertson. Therefore there are big expectations and much excitement in the industry, on which UWrap, a shrink wrap packaging expert, was keen to comment:

"That such high profile individuals are getting involved in promoting sustainable packaging is a good thing. We advocate the sustainable and proper use of all our shrink wrapping equipment; for example the use of recycled plastics and applying a super-tight seal. The ability for shrink wrap to deliver an air-tight seal keeps food fresher for longer which is an environmental advantage, but also cuts down on plastic use too."

Packaging Innovations 2016 Set to Show an Industry at Its Best: UWrap Comments

Blackpool, Lancashire -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/21/2015 -- There has been increasing anticipation and excitement regarding the Packaging Innovations 2016 event, which is due to take place in February and will showcase a number of businesses involved in the industry. The upcoming year is set to be more important than ever, as a number of topical events have highlighted the importance of developing packaging. Firstly, Christmas is a time of year when the public pay more attention to the way items are wrapped. Secondly, the recent climate change talks in Paris have emphasized the importance of sustainability and responsible material use.

The Packaging Innovations 2016 exhibition follows on from a period of increased media attention towards packaging. It is expected to reflect this through even more advanced technologies and innovations capable of expanding the market. Doors will open at the NEC in Birmingham on the 24 February, set to run until the 25th.

Set to be especially popular at the event are developments involving the creative yet sustainable use of plastics. After all, plastic is a popular material, but work with it is needed in order to make it more viable at complying with environmentally friendly goals.

Keen to comment on this was UWrap, a prime provider of shrink wrap machinery and a spokesperson had this to say:

"The Packaging Innovations 2016 event carries on with increased and positive interest in the packaging sector, which is great. We're proud too provide packing solutions involving the use of plastic film in a shrink-wrap format; upholding sustainability as recycled material can be used and the extra-tight seal minimises excess material wastage. We hope to see more exhibitors showing green initiatives in the use of their materials too."

Big Growth Expected for the Global Packaging Sector: UWrap Comments

Blackpool, Lancashire -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/18/2015 -- According to a new report from the Ucima Research Department in Italy, a rise of 4.9% is expected in the global demand for packaging machinery. This means potential optimism for those involved in related industries, especially as more businesses are looking to package their own goods onsite and thus streamline their manufacturing processes.

The report also estimated that the packaging machinery sector would be worth up to €40.3bn by 2018. This is a considerable figure, and reasons for such large predictions include that at an international level there is increased demand for packing equipment in both Asia and Africa especially.

Therefore the time to both get involved and invest in packing machinery has perhaps never been better. Positivity is also enhanced due to developments in technology, which allow for increasingly innovative packing methods. Particularly popular as part of this is shrink wrap: which can be applied by machines which incorporate heat and a polymer film for a highly secure plastic coating. This is used across industries, and can help to preserve the shelf life of food too.

About UWrap
Quick to comment on the report was UWrap, a prime provider of shrink wrap machines and packing equipment. They frequently comment on industry news and have extensive experience in the field. A spokesperson had this to say:

"To be part of an expanding packaging machinery sector is certainly positive and a cause for optimism. After all, increasing numbers of businesses are making the bold and cost-effective decision to carry out their own packaging through bought machines, rather than outsourcing. It is great to support this business incentive and we want this positivity to be reflected in our affordable prices and efficient service."

Packaging Regulations Undergoes a Re-Write: Uwrap Ltd Responds

Blackpool, Lancashire -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/26/2015 -- Leading UK suppliers of shrink wrapping machines, Uwrap Ltd, have recently commented on the changes to packaging regulations, which came into effect in October 2015.

The changes, put in place by the HM government, have made changes to the previous packaging regulations, taking into account online shopping which has boomed in recent years, which wasn't really an issue in 1999 when the regulations were formed.

Packaging needs to be as minimal as possible, to avoid unnecessary waste, which helps protect the environment in the long run. Online packages have been noted to be overdone, and the new regulations put the packaging rules in line with everything else. Enforcement of the rules has been a key change, and many companies abusing the system will soon feel the force of the new rules in place, lest they change.

Often commenting on industry related news, a spokesperson for Uwrap Ltd said, 'The regulations changes take into account recent trends, and while some may bawl at having to go minimal with their packaging, it helps keep the environment safe, and will also save money for companies who send out items from online shopping.

Shrink wrap is one material which is minimal, recyclable and helps protect a wide number of items. If you're looking to incorporate a more minimal type of packaging for your products, at Uwrap Ltd we sell a wide range of shrink wrap machines, ideal for all company budgets and sizes!'

Global Plastic Packaging Market Set to Grow by at Least 6%: Uwrap Comments

Blackpool, Lancashire -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/14/2015 -- According to recent figures released by Nasdaq, the global plastic packaging market is set to see an increase in growth, estimated over the period of 2014-19 to be at a CAGR of 6.06%. This anticipated growth suggests that there is optimism in the market, and a number of investments are being made or are set to be made.

Plastic packaging is integral to the packing of a number of products. It offers a versatility of use, often making it an ideal choice for retailers. For example, plastic can be used to wrap food products, offering the potential of an air-tight seal to sustain shelf life. It also provides protection against external conditions such as moisture and dirt, thus often in-demand for supermarket and display sue. A key variety of plastic packaging used in this range of applications is shrink wrap. It offers the additional benefits of tight coverage, minimizing waste and also can be potentially recycled.

About Uwrap
Uwrap are a prime example of a business supporting growth in the plastic packaging market. They offer a range of shrink wrap machinery and products. With extensive experience in the field, they are frequent commentators on industry news. They offered this reflection:

"We think that the predicted growth for the plastic packaging market is positive," a spokesperson said "As it suggests that more people will be coming aware of their options in plastic and how these can be versatile enough to suit their range of needs. Shrink wrap is central to this especially, is it is an example of a multi-purpose solution for a variety of products. Having your own machine as a business can increase levels of efficiency, as well as the wrap looking great. It has high functionality whilst also offering a fine finish. We urge that if you are interested in the benefits of plastic packaging for your company, to consider the benefits of shrink wrap – with a machine allowing you the opportunity to package in your own premises."

Product Packaging Most Effective Way to Communicate Sustainability

Blackpool, Lancashire -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/21/2015 -- A recent survey jointly conducted by one of the world's largest PR firms and global analytics specialists found that product packaging is the most effective way to influence consumers of a product's sustainability. The survey was conducted on 9,709 consumers spread over the 9 biggest countries in the world according to GDP. The research indicates that consumers are much more informed of issues around sustainability than they were in 2011 or 2013 with a significant 84% stating that they would prefer products and services from socially and environmentally responsible companies. Furthermore, 88% wanted to know of the sustainability activities of the company they were purchasing from.

One of the world's largest sources of product packaging is shrink wrap, which recently revealed its sustainability potential in a series of recycling initiatives. As a staple of the manufacturing process it is considerably versatile in its uses and is considered ideal for communication with consumers due to its flexible and transparent film which allows information to be added easily to any product.

About uWrap
uWrap are one of the UK's leading suppliers of shrink wrap machines with over 25 years in the business. They pride themselves on providing innovative bespoke solutions for their clients when it comes to their product packaging needs. They are also regular commentators on industry news and a spokesperson had this to say, 'The news doesn't really come as a huge surprise for people who are involved in the business of product packaging. We've always known that customers judge a service or item by the way that it looks. That's just the way it is.

However, we are surprised by the sheer growth in awareness of sustainability and its importance to consumers. In this light it is crucial that consumers' needs are fulfilled and that social and environmentally friendly sourcing is communicated on packaging. We pride ourselves on making this whole process easier by using the best quality film to ensure sustainability so at least businesses don't need to worry about the material they are having their items wrapped in. We offer an extensive service to all our clients, and are always open for a discussion on this matter. Feel free to contact us with any questions.'

Is Shrink Wrap the Future of Aerospace?

Blackpool, Lancashire -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/18/2015 -- A team at MIT are currently working on creating spacesuits made of stretchy material which shrink to fit astronaut's bodies. The technology could potentially be used in the military if it were to progress swiftly in its development, bearing in mind that it is currently in its infancy. This development follows a recent stream of product designs inspired by the basic premise of shrink-wrapping which is to speedily package a product to be airtight. The idea is now being researched to be applied on a global scale in commerce as monolithic as the aerospace and arms industry, albeit using different materials to the traditional polymer plastic films which are popularly used in machines such as LSealers.

Shrink wrapping is currently in extreme demand as a reliable part of the manufacturing process and is used to package products which are vital parts of our daily lives, such as food, stationery and software.

About uWrap
uWrap have been experts in the shrink wrap machinery industry for over a quarter of a century. They have manufactured and supplied machinery throughout the UK, Europe and the US and are a well-respected brand often manufacturing machines for other shrink wrap machine suppliers. A spokesperson for the country was humoured by the recent developments and had this to say, 'Obviously we think it is absolutely fantastic that the ideas behind shrink wrap are being applied elsewhere and are potentially making the world a better place. We've always known that shrink wrap is here to stay. There is too much merchandise being produced on a daily basis for effective packaging not to be a stable pillar of the economy.

Shrink wrap has become an established veteran in this sense, and we think it will continue to grow and inspire the future generation of innovators and entrepreneurs. We regularly offer our services to up and coming businesses, innovating products and futuristic entrepreneurs. This is why we regularly invest in the latest technology and innovation in the field including state-of-the-art machinery to ensure our customers have the best products and technology that is available. We offer 24 hour technical support, breakdown support and spare part replacements too, simply because we know how crucial it is for our customers to have access to us around the clock. We know our machines play a central part in the fulfilment of their ambitions and goals, and we like to support this wherever possible.'

Methods to Reuse Boat Shrink Wrap Planned in Falmouth, UWrap LTD Responds

Blackpool, Lancashire -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/20/2015 -- Leading UK supplier of shrink wrapping machines, UWrap LTD, have recently commented on the news that the Woods Hole Sea Grant Program and Bourne Integrated Solid Waste Management Facility is set to reuse boat shrink wrap to help the environment.

Shrink wrapping boats has been on the increase in recent years, as it provides an effective way to keep the vehicles safe when not in use, but typically when the boats are ready for the water once more, the shrink wrap is wasted. The new plan aims to make use of the shrink wrap when it comes off.

Once the shrink wrap is no longer needed when the boating seasons begins, it's now collected up and sent overseas to be converted into a new product, saving the environment in both waste and needed new materials to craft something.

The project has been ongoing for the last five years, but only now has the efforts vastly increased to make an impact rather than having little effect to the overall waste that used to make it downstream. A free drop off site is even available, which helps speed the process up as others in the area contribute.

The community outreach specialist of the program, Jeffrey Brodeur, said, 'We have a 30-yard roll-off container – basically a giant dumpster – on site for the next month and we are hopeful we can collect a lot of shrink wrap as the boating season begins. This is the first real attempt at this project so we are starting slow and, depending on how it goes, we hope to expand next year.'

Often commenting on industry news, a spokesperson for UWrap LTD said, 'Shrink wrap is an incredibly diverse material, used for a wide range of products. It wraps food, it wraps DVDs, and it even wraps boats.

It's also recyclable and this new plan to reuse boat shrink wrap is a great idea, which should be implemented in more areas. If it takes off, hopefully this will be the case.'

Shrink Wrap Sustainability: UWrap Comments

Blackpool, Lancashire -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/23/2015 -- Plastic packaging, in the past, has sometimes been exposed to negative press coverage - including issues regarding waste.

However innovations, especially within shrink wrap, have been not only the quantity of packaging minimized in recent years, but have also been part of recycling incentives, most significant and of increasing attention is a scheme in America – Morris County's boat shrink-wrap recycling program.

Not only does this illuminate the diversity of purposes for which shrink wrap can be used, but also that it can be incorporated as part of a sustainable productive process.

The shrink-wrap recycling program has, since 2008, seen more than 86 tons of shrink wrap recycled. This means that not only can it serve as an important, water-tight packaging but can later be transformed to other uses. It is anticipated that this will be a process to develop in the UK, especially regarding the increasing popularity of shrink-wrap as a diverse packaging form and increased political efforts towards sustainability.

uWrap, key providers in shrink wrap machines, and both new and used technology are frequent commentators on the field. They were quick to comment on the recently revealed recycling results."To see such positive incentives involving shrink wrap in the USA is really great," a spokes person commented. "Shrink Wrap, after all, is an especially popular medium in the US for putting around boats.

"These results from America should offer incentive both to users and manufacturers in Britain, that shrink wrap can be part of a productive and environmentally friendly process. People can make streamlined accessible choice; by having your own machine to seal goods you can specify thickness and density so material is produced to the highest quality and efficiency with minimal waste. As evident in America, shrink wrap can also be recycled and thus contributes to another industry in itself.

"Furthermore, it is important to see the sustainability of shrink wrap not only in regards to shrink-wrap but how it can provide that necessary air-tight seal for packaging food. This is key in preventing spillage, spoilage and deterioration too."
