In Imaginary Fiend, everything goes wrong when an agoraphobic misanthropist orders himself an imaginary enemy. Galimzyanova wanted to tell a story about the inevitable disaster that self-hate brings to a person's life. The film was started as a treatment for a stop-motion clay animation that she wanted to shoot herself. She shot a scene but it did not turn out very nice and still have those monstrous clay people in her closet. Years later, when she was finishing a screenplay for her next short, A Russian Film Noir, she stumbled upon her old treatment for Imaginary Friend and decided to develop it instead.
