Prosound Takes Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium to New Sounds

Johannesburg, Gauteng -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/29/2009 -- The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth has been especially built for 2010, with a capacity of 50 000. It will host five first-round matches, one second-round, one quarter-final, and the third-place playoff.

The structure is a futuristic soccer stadium, which is incorporated within a multi-purpose facility specifically designed to serve the community for years to come.

Prosound were contracted by Di-Data to do the full design, supply and installation of the sound system keeping in line with the FIFA requirements.

The design utilizes X 56 Electro- Voice FRX 15" Horn Loaded Coaxial loudspeaker systems driven in a combination of Passive and Bi-Amped configurations. Crest Audio Cki-series power amplifiers fitted with NX-CobraNet cards were used. A total of 136 Electro-Voice FM4.2 speaker systems were used in the under balcony area where the spectators are shaded from the main speaker clusters.

The heart of the system as with all of the 9 stadium installations by Prosound (Pty) Ltd is the Peavey Media Matrix. Dual Nion 3's were utilized in this specific installation. The Nion digital processors are responsible for all system functions which include monitoring of all amplifiers and loudspeaker systems for faults, individual and overall system equalisation, compression, and delay where required.

The majority of Prosound work was done at a fear factor height of 40m and the team were constantly subjected to typical gale force winds expected in PE.

However, as usual Prosound completed the sound system installation on time.

Maragon Private Schools Get a Sound & Light Make-Over

Johannesburg, Gauteng -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/24/2009 -- Maragon Private Schools in Ruimsig collectively forms a centre of excellence where internationally-recognized education of the highest quality is provided. The Maragon ethos is to strive for perfection and with this in mind Prosound was called upon to provide a complete sound, light and video installation of The Grand Hall.

In putting together the design of the stage lighting for Maragon, Prosound drew on the services of Declan Randall of Congo Blue Design. Due to the fact that the stage area was fairly large, sound stage lighting principles were applied to ensure that the stage was evenly illuminated. Furthermore the lighting control area was located in a non-typical place which meant that a DMX control position had to be provided at the rear wall of the auditorium for ease of use. A Zero 88 Jester 24/48 Lighting Console was used together with the digital dimmers. The impressive fixtures used consisted of ETC Source 4 Profiles Source 4 Junior Zoom Profiles and 1000Watt Fresnel parcans. Together with Congo Blue Design, Prosound also provided training on the principles of lighting and also the initial focus of the system.

The audio system installed into the multipurpose venue consists of RCF Art322Ai series loudspeakers, Electro-Voice sub-bass loudspeakers, Crest amplification, Rane signal processing, Yamaha mixing console and Electro-Voice microphones. Within the venue the main hall has been fully equipped for speech, music and drama productions.

The installation of the video system consists of Sanyo video projectors, Kramer switching and Grand View screens. A smaller foyer area will be used for small-scale presentations, viewing of sporting events and smaller music events. Additionally, the canteen has a ceiling based distributed system that also gets a feed from the main control room. All in all, the sound and light installation is sure to create a few Hollywood stars on the stage and is an incredible venue for future rental use.
