iMotions Powers Mythbusters on Discovery Channel Investigating Dangerous Driving Habits

Boston, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/24/2015 -- iMotions, a global leader in Biometric Research Solutions, powered the MythBusters in Saturday's episode about Dangerous Driving. A popular topic on the popular Discovery Channel show is to look at dangerous driving habits people have formed over the years. With the rise in cell phone use in vehicles and the advent of hands-free technologies, many questions linger on whether it's safer to be talking on the phone or if a hands-free device assists drivers in paying more attention.

To tackle the question of what method might be best for vehicle operators, the MythBusters setup an advanced driving simulator with eye tracking glasses and other physiological sensors. This simulator, housed at Stanford, was configured to put participants through a driving task with a number of events requiring a reaction from the driver. Furthermore, drivers were equipped with a set of non-intrusive eyetracking glasses to accurately gauge their attention on the environment simulated around them. The feedback from this physiological data and the events from the simulator were automatically combined using the iMotions software throughout the duration of the experiment.

The experiment was successfully carried out with interesting results on a question that has been posed by many cell phone users and policy makers alike. The MythBusters found that both conditions showed drivers having problems driving regardless of the method at which they were using to talk on the phone.

"We see a huge interest from car manufacturers who wants to test everything from human reactions when something unexpected happens to how to keep drivers awake in the world of self driving cars. With the MytBusters project, we proved once again how our leading edge technology can help this industry with insights not previously accessible. We are excited to see this get applied in the real world soon" says Peter Hartzbech, founder and CEO, iMotions.

iMotions has also provided details about the results of the experiment as well as an analysis of eye tracking data that was collected during the study: http://imotionsglobal.com/mythbusters-dangerous-driving/

The iMotions platform can measure more than just data from eye tracking glasses – it can also live visualize and synchronize information from EEG, facial expression analysis, GSR, ECG, EMG, surveys, and more. Combined with an advanced technology like a driving simulator, this creates an excellent environment to quantify the unquantifiable.

iMotions Is Now Supporting the New EyeTech VT3 Eye Tracker

Boston, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/17/2015 -- iMotions' world leading Biometric Research Platform is known for connecting the world's best biometric devices. Today iMotions is adding the EyeTech VT3 eye tracker from EyeTech Digital Systems. The new VT3 eye tracker is a very flexible eye tracker for both close and long distance tracking. With its minimum stable frame rate of 60Hz it makes it the markets most cost effective eye tracker. This integration brings the total amount of standard supported devices in iMotions Biometric Research Platform up to 30+.

The EyeTech VT3 eye tracker is a significant step-up from the previous VT2 eye tracker. Performance as well as tolerance for head movement, glasses and noisy light environments has improved significantly. The new EyeTech VT3 eye tracker has tracking speed options of 60Hz, 120Hz and 200Hz. Together with the iMotions Biometric Research Platform researchers will experience excellent data quality and accuracy.

The new VT3 eye tracker is plug and play connected to iMotions' software platform. It gives researchers the ability to have top of the class hardware and software at a very competitive price. In addition it enables them to combine eye tracking with GSR, EEG, Facial Expression Analysis, ECG, EMG, Surveys and Stimuli for a full on multi modal research setup.

"iMotions is pleased to support VT3 as one of the new best in class and cost effective eye trackers. The demand for eye tracking research at affordable costs is increasing, and with the VT3 there is a solution for this demand. Going forward, this integration will expand the research opportunities for organizations that want to combine eye tracking with other features such as EEG, GSR and facial expression analysis or simply look for high quality gaze data", says Peter Hartzbech, CEO & Founder of iMotions.

"As our previous eye tracker, the new VT3 eye tracker provides a flexible plug and play solution for iMotions Biometric Research Platform and will be a powerful and yet affordable alternative to the higher priced eye trackers in the market. We are happy to foster our collaboration with iMotions and to combine reliability and technological capacity of eye trackers with software engineering quality and innovative platform capabilities", says Robert Chappell, CEO & Founder of EyeTech.

iMotions Announces Partnership with Empatica for EDA (GSR) Wristband Integration

Cambridge, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/18/2015 -- iMotions, developer of the leading biometric research software platform, and Empatica, an affective computing company, announce partnership and integration of Empatica's wireless EDA (GSR) E4 wristband.

The Empatica E4 wristband is the most comfortable and non-intrusive wearable wireless multi-sensor device that monitors physiological signals such as heart rate, skin conductance, body temperature and activity information of the subject in real time. Unobtrusive monitoring makes it possible to record data in a lab setting as well as in a mobile setup with very long recording sessions.

Integrated with iMotions Biometric Research Platform, the device enables marketing, usability and academic researchers to synchronize data from eye trackers, EEG headsets, surveys and facial expression analysis with GSR data. The next-generation GSR device has a great battery life with 20+ hours streaming and 36+ hours memory mode and allows complete mobility of the respondent's fingers, which empowers research applications with accurate data in daily life.

"The Empatica team has done a great job creating a device, which can observe patients and respondents over longer periods of time with great battery life. Especially in cases with observing patients to predict seizures, autism and other neurological disorders it is highly relevant and very non-intrusive in daily life observations. We are excited to integrate the device into our biometric research platform and enable more mobile GSR research in combination with other sensors and eye trackers," says Peter Hartzbech, Founder & CEO of iMotions. "Going forward, this integration can leverage a lot of world changing academic and medical research."

"We collaborate with the best research teams in the world to advance the understanding of human behavior in real life settings. The partnership with iMotions and the integration of Empatica's multi-sensor technology into their solution is a perfect fit and opens up opportunities for many researchers," says Matteo Lai, CEO of Empatica.
