Tomorrow Marks First Time Child Author Will Be Honored by City of Parkland Florida

Fort Lauderdale, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/12/2015 -- Lexi Schwartzberg, a Broward County eleven-year old children's author, will be honored by the Honorable Mayor Michael Udine and city commissioners of Parkland, Florida next Wednesday, August 12,. Schwartzberg will receive a certificate of appreciation for her work as a young, published author of her new book, "Lily Droplet's Amazing Adventure: The Water Cycle." This is the first time a young author has been recognized in Parkland. The public meeting will begin at 7:00 pm at the Parkland City Hall, 6600 University Drive, Parkland, FL.

Schwartzberg's book tells the story of a droplet who experiences the water cycle for the first time and her fears along the way. The book started as a class assignment but soon took on a life of its own. Her original assignment only had her writing a paragraph, but Schwartzberg wrote two and a half pages, and she went on from there. Lily really comes to life thanks to her aunt, Danielle Schwartzberg, who provided the illustrations. "I just thought it would be cute. The idea popped into my mind about having a water droplet who experienced the water cycle for the first time." Schwartzberg said. "… I'm a huge Harry Potter fan; there's a character named Lily, and I just used that."

The book is aimed at children who are learning about the water cycle. "It's really cool because one of my goals in life was to get a book published as an adult," Schwartzberg said. "I'll probably write more, but it's kind of mind-boggling." Lily Droplet's Amazing Adventure: The Water Cycle (ISBN: 978-0-99629-331-0) addresses science topics that appeal to young children.

Famous Broward Child Author Lexi Schwartzberg Read Her Book at Plantation Florida Library Last Week

Hoffman Plantation Library at 501 N. Fig Tree Lane, Plantation, Florida for a reading and book signing of her new book, "Lily Droplet's Amazing Adventure: The Water Cycle." She was interviewed by the City of Plantation magazine after the reading. Schwartzberg read from her book to a crowd of about 25 and then the children did a related activity where they could name and color in a water droplet on templates.

Miki Ostendorf, the librarian, said, "It was a treat for us to have Schwartzberg here because it is important for children to see that other kids can have the courage and ambition to follow their dreams. She also had great support from her parents and family and I was impressed at how poised and confident she was reading to the group. She did a swell job."

Teachers Praise Young Author's New Science Book for Children Utilizing Common Core Standards

The Common Core is a set of high-quality academic standards in mathematics and English language arts/literacy (ELA). These learning goals outline what a student should know and be able to do at the end of each grade. The Common Core language arts and literacy standards attempt to correct the fiction/nonfiction imbalance by placing more emphasis on reading nonfiction—starting with an equal emphasis on literature and informational text in elementary school. At nearly all grade levels, students are expected to develop research skills across content areas with a strong focus on nonfiction, including literary nonfiction.

After receiving an assignment in school to write about the water cycle from the point of view of a water droplet, Lily's Adventure began.

Teachers Praise Young Authors New Science Book for Children Utilizing Common Core Standards

Fort Lauderdale, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/09/2015 -- Teachers are praising the eleven year old, Lexi Schwartzberg, author and creator of a new book, Lily Droplet's Amazing Adventure: The Water Cycle (ISBN: 978-0-99629-331-0), for addressing science topics that appeal to young children.

The talented young author quickly turned the one paragraph assignment into a full-length story, incorporating the science and lessons through dynamic and charming characters. The illustrations are equally delightful. Lexi worked with her Aunt Danielle, an amazing and talented artist to illustrate the book. The two worked together to capture the fun and interesting path of Lily Droplet's Amazing Adventure.

During the course of the book, Lily experiences all the wonders of the water cycle. Lily Droplet's Amazing Adventure teaches the concepts of evaporation, condensation, and precipitation; joining her along the journey are many friends and relatives, each with a unique personality expressed throughout the book.
