One of the qualities that makes Super Lawyers such an important resource for attorneys, as well as people seeking legal counsel, is its comprehensive and patented multi-phase selection process. Every candidate for Super Lawyers recognition is thoroughly evaluated on no less than 12 different indicators outlining all areas of their career. In addition to a peer recognition requirement, independent research is conducted on each candidate based on criteria such as their position within a law firm, their existing honors and awards, and their verdicts and settlements, to mention just a few. Eligible lawyers will go through the following three steps:

- First they will be nominated by their peers in the legal field, or the Super Lawyers research team.
- Second, candidates will be subjected to independent research on their legal profession, conducted by a Super Lawyers team.
- Third, a blue ribbon panel of preeminent attorneys will oversee individual peer evaluations on the candidate.

Only 5% of all attorneys are ever able to make it to the final Super Lawyers selection process, and Jeff Anderson is incredibly proud to be among them once again.

Divorce Gone Awry: Man Camps out in His Own Yard

Dallas, TX -- (ReleaseWire) -- 11/12/2015 -- Everyone knows that divorce can be complicated, emotional, and financial devastating. But whatever conception one holds of divorce proceedings, one man's position makes divorce seem even more devastating; Sharafat Khan is camping out in his own yard following a nasty dispute with his wife.

Man Lives in Yard; Neighbors Ask for Action

Khan has been living in his own yard after his wife, Shanaz Khan, kicked him out of the house in March of 2015. He was left in the yard with only the clothes on his back, and Mrs. Khan has posted a sign to the neighbors asking them not to feed her husband. Even more bizarre about the story is this: the house in which Mr. Khan is living outside of--and Mrs. Khan is living inside of--is a million dollar home located in the posh waterfront development of Taylor Lake Shores in Texas. In fact, Mr. Khan has even admitted to having enough money to pay for a hotel (and also has offers of housing from friends), according to an article published in USA Today.

Neighbors are not only ignoring Mrs. Khan's requests that they not feed a weakened Mr. Khan, but also asking police to take action. Unfortunately, say police, they cannot do anything; Mr. Khan has the right to loiter on his own property for as long as the property belongs to him (the house is in both parties' names).

Divorce Action Pending

In June of 2015, Mrs. Khan filed for a divorce. While the grounds for divorce have not been listed, Mr. Khan has been arrested in the past on domestic violence charges. In addition to filing for divorce, Mrs. Khan also filed for a protective order in December 2014. In Texas, cruelty is a grounds for divorce, although after filing, a person seeking a divorce will still have to wait the required 60 day waiting period (source: http://www.jeffandersonfamilylaw.com/practice-areas/divorce/). A judgement is still pending in the case of both the divorce and the restraining orders; it is likely that the issues of ownership of the home--and whether or not Mr. Khan will legally be allowed to remain in the yard--will be settled by the court during divorce proceedings.

The Importance of Swift Divorce Determinations

The situation currently experienced by Mr. and Mrs. Khan highlights the necessity of swift divorce proceedings and determinations, and the importance of an experienced divorce attorney. For both parties' sakes, hopefully the divorce will be granted, and a property division determination will be issued without delay.

For more information on this press release visit: http://www.releasewire.com/press-releases/release-3.htm

Media Relations Contact

Jeff Anderson
Family Lawyer
Jeff Anderson Family Law Attorney
Telephone: 972-248-8383
Email: Click to Email Jeff Anderson
Web: http://www.jeffandersonfamilylaw.com

Texas Resists Supreme Court Ruling on Gay Marriage

Many Texas believe that the Supreme Court's decision regarding same-sex marriage is a violation of states' rights.

Dallas, TX -- (ReleaseWire) -- 07/01/2015 -- In a historic case decision, the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 on Friday, June 26, 2015 that it is the legal right of all Americans—regardless of gender, race, or sexual orientation—to seek a marriage license from the state in which they live. While the Supreme Court's decision has been hailed by many as a long-awaited triumph for civil rights, many others—including some lawmakers in Texas—believe that the decision is a violation of states' rights.

Texas Attorney General Speaks Up

Texas' Attorney General, Ken Paxton, spoke up against the Supreme Court decision, telling reporters that, "the Court weakened itself and weakened the rule of law, but did nothing to weaken our resolve to protect religious liberty and return to democratic self-government in the face of judicial activities attempting to tell us how to live." Mr. Paxton also issued a decree following the decision telling county clerks that they have the right to refuse to grant same sex marriages.

Paxton Not Alone in His Feelings

Mr. Paxton isn't the only Texan who's spoken out against the law; a county clerk from Denton, Juli Luke, feels similarly. Personally opposed to gay marriage, Ms. Luke refused to grant marriages immediately following the decision. On Monday, however, she changed her mind, telling reporters that as a public official—a position that required her to take an oath to hold—it is her duty to put her personal beliefs aside to uphold the law.

A Moral Issue, a States' Rights Issue

For many Texans, the decision made by the Supreme Court is as much a political issue as it is a moral one. Putting personal beliefs aside, many Texans believe that the federal government is overstepping its bounds by making a law that governs state practices.Attorney Jeff Anderson told reporters i n 2014 how interesting he thought it would be to see the Supreme Court's interpretation of gay marriage rights as and protection under the US Constitution.

He indicates that at the end of the day the issue comes down to "state's rights against federal rights. The state courts are going to be bucking up against the federal courts to see how far the federal courts want to step into the state's business."

Changes to Family Law in Texas and Elsewhere

Regardless of personal feelings or opinions about the Supreme Court's decision on gay marriage, one thing is sure; the decision will have a big impact on family law in every state. Because same-sex couples are finally allowed to marry in all states, family law reform regarding same-sex divorce, separation, child custody, and adoption are all on the agenda for every state.
