The drone trial is an experiment to determine other ways in which post can be delivered, and the Posti Group spent four days testing out how a drone can deliver post to the island Helsinki, which was three miles from the test site.

The drone can only carry mail up to 3kg, and has metal arms to grip onto it. A human pilot controls the device, ensuring the drone doesn't get lost on the way. The test with this drone was a success, though wind conditions meant the drone had to land further away than initially planned.

Despite the successful tests, the delivery method won't be used commercially in the near future, due to laws and safety regulations currently in place. But Posti Group are looking to eventually expand outside of a testing environment, once drone based devices become more of a normality.
