The Changing Face of Copywriting – The Writers Bureau Comments

Manchester, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/30/2015 -- Traditionally copywriters were employed to write amazing copy to sell products and ideas. They would write press releases, adverts for the press, radio and TV, brochures and so on. And the time taken for a campaign would depend on how complex it was – but two or more weeks wouldn't be unusual.

These days copywriters need to be able to do all that and more. With the advent of the internet, and its content hungry ways, copy is needed for promotion more so than ever. But it's needed in quantity and clients expect it fast. Taking two weeks for a piece nowadays is unthinkable – more like two hours if you're lucky.

Copywriters also need to be able to do more than write great copy. They need to understand SEO and how to best respond to comments on Social Media. And having a basic knowledge of HTML won't do any harm. This can make copywriting a really dynamic and exciting profession taking it far beyond simply persuading people to buy or take action with a clever usage of words.

However, those who want to enter this profession still need to learn the secrets of writing good copy. For a convenient Copywriting Course that teaches students the tricks of the trade and how to set up as a freelance copywriter look at the one provided by top distance learning college The Writers Bureau.

Principal of the college, Susie Busby, says, "I've been writing copy for over 20 years and have seen how the demand for internet content and social media management is changing the profession. It's essential that people entering this field learn how to write good copy quickly. If they learn to do this they will be in high demand as clients want good copy representing them. This is possible with the right training."

Joanne Harris's Manifesto for Writers – The Writers Bureau Comments

Manchester, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/30/2015 -- There's a debate going on in the world of literature about how available writers should be to their audiences. In this age of electronic communication and social media some writers are finding that their readers are becoming more and more demanding of their time and they're struggling to cope.

In response to this award-winning author, Joanne Harris, launched a 12 point writers' manifesto as an agreement between author and reader at the Manchester Literature Festival in October 2015.

In her manifesto she promises: To be true to herself, not to sell out, to write to the best of her ability, to challenge her reader, to follow the story, to write for everyone, to include all types of people in her stories, to try new things, not to let anyone else decide what she can write, not to be aloof, to never forget what she owes her reader and to open doors for her reader (but won't blame them if they don't walk through).

In her manifesto Joanne Harris recognises the need for her readership – without them she's just 'words on a page.' But she also asks readers to understand that writers need time to write and that they're like every other human being – they get tired, grouchy and have many demands on their time.

This is more of a problem for established writers than for those just starting out who are trying to build a readership – most of who would be pleased to have readers contact them. The Writers Bureau runs online writing classes to help writers establish themselves and raise their public profile

Susie Busy, Principal of The Writers Bureau, says "It's a shame that some writers are feeling the need to speak out about the lack of time they have to respond to their fan base. There has to be mutual respect between author and reader and I think this is what Joanne Harris is trying to establish.

"Obviously, it's up to the author how much contact they have with their readers and they must find ways of controlling that contact so they have time to write. However, once an author has had a book published the next step is to sell it. And it doesn't matter who's published the book the author still has to do a lot of marketing themselves. So having a good marketing strategy is essential, and that will include contact time with readers."

National Poetry Day 2015: The Writers Bureau Comments

Manchester, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/27/2015 -- National Poetry Day came of age on 8th October 2015 and was celebrated by millions of people across Britain with poetry being created and read in schools, colleges, universities, libraries, pubs, clubs and even trains.

Founded in 1994 by William Seighart (philanthropist, entrepreneur and publisher) to promote poetry through live events, classroom activities and broadcasts, it is now co-ordinated by Forward Arts Foundation.

This year's theme was 'Light'. One appropriate event was 'Make Like A Poet', a digital project where the best responses were put up in lights as part of the world famous Blackpool Illuminations.

BBC Radio 4 devoted six hours of airtime to 'We British' which explored 1,400 years of British history, culture and experience using the works of poets and gained a rave review from The Daily Telegraph website. And now, for the first time, Radio 4 have a poet in residence – the award winning, critically acclaimed, British poet, Daljit Nagra.

People were also encouraged to use social media with the hashtags #NationalPoetryDay and #ThinkOfAPoem. When you search using these tags you'll find favourite works by famous poets, people's own pieces and others having fun by making up poems by fictional characters like Darth Vader and Professor Snape. NASA even got in on the act and gave poets inspiration with pictures of a nighttime earth taken from space.

For people who love poetry and would like to develop their poetry skills there are several avenues available to them. One being a distance learning course from The Writers Bureau who run a dedicated Poetry Writing Course created and tutored by professional poets.

Susie Busby, Principal at The Writers Bureau, had this to say, "Personally I thought National Poetry Day was a resounding success. Both my children enjoyed writing and reading poems at school and I loved listening to 'We British'. This annual event is fantastic for raising the profile and opening up the world of poetry to us all.

"Poetry tends to be left to christenings, weddings, funerals and birthday cards for most folk. And sometimes it can come across as academic or even dry. So it was great to see people having fun with it on Twitter and taking it out onto the streets in lights. I hope it encourages more people to take up their pens and start writing their own poems. And, if people want help and guidance, or their confidence boosting, then our course will certainly help."
