Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/18/2019 -- CCGNJ, New Jersey's leading provider of treatment resources and support for individuals who struggle with problem sports betting in New Jersey, is encouraging disordered gamblers to seek support as the popularity of sports betting continues to rise. More than $1.24 billion in sports wagers have been placed in the Garden State's various casinos, racetracks, and online/mobile platforms.1
Legal for not even a full year, sports betting has reportedly accounted for $9.3 million in revenue for Atlantic City's casino properties. Furthermore, the state's two licensed racetracks, the Meadowlands and Monmouth Park, have brought in a substantial amount of revenue in December, reportedly $20.8 million.1 Leading sports betting analyst for PlayNJ.com, Dustin Gouker, suggests that the popularity of online sports betting is the primary reason why the strength of New Jersey's sports betting market performs well even during slower months like December.1

With all of the new information available detailing the success and popularity of sports betting in New Jersey, CCGNJ feels that it is important to highlight all of the treatment and support resources available to those who struggle with problem sports betting in Atlantic City and across New Jersey.
CCGNJ Offers Treatment and Support with March Madness in Mind

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/18/2019 -- As sporting events such as the NCAA college basketball tournament, commonly referred to as March Madness, and the Pennzoil 400 approach, CCGNJ is offering disordered gamblers access to support and rehabilitation resources throughout the state of New Jersey.

While sporting events often garner the attention of a large audience who like to place friendly bets, they also attract a number of individuals who struggle to gamble responsibly. Last year, it was estimated that Americans would spend more than $10 billion betting on March Madness alone.

With such a high turnout for bets placed on last year's event, CCGNJ would like to encourage disordered sports gamblers in East Rutherford, NJ and the surrounding areas to use their free 800-GAMBLER helpline to find coping tips that can help them avoid participating in this year's festivities. Whether individuals need help learning how to say "no" to office bracket pools or want ideas on what they can do instead of gambling, CCGNJ wants disordered gamblers to know that they are here to provide support, treatment and hope to New Jersey residents, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

As the popularity of sports gambling continues to rise, it is important for New Jersey residents to know that there are many treatment and rehabilitation resources available to help them recover from disordered gambling. New Jersey residents who would like more information on the resources available to disordered sports gamblers in Meadowlands, NJ, can reach out to CCGNJ by calling 800-GAMBLER or visiting https://800gambler.org/.

CCGNJ Explores Recent Changes to Atlantic City's Casinos and Gambling Landscape

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/11/2019 -- As the leading provider of treatment and rehabilitation resources for people struggling with a sports gambling disorder (sometimes referred to as an addiction) in the state of NJ, the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ) is helping its residents understand the recent changes being made to the Atlantic City gambling and casino landscape. In the years following the United States' recession in the late 2000s, Atlantic City saw a dramatic drop in the number of tourists visiting the city. This reduction in tourism eventually led to the city's casinos losing large amounts of revenue and finally closing down.

The Garden State decided to legalize sports betting in June of 2018 which is helping to combat this decrease. While the introduction of sports betting helped to bring in nearly $8 million in taxes for the state, CCGNJ believes it could also create a new opportunity for disordered gamblers. To help those recovering from a gambling problem, CCGNJ wants to make New Jersey residents aware of the increase in the gambling triggers that will present themselves in Atlantic City during sporting events such as the Super Bowl and March Madness.

The use of sports betting as a revenue generator for New Jersey is not the only change coming to Atlantic City that CCGNJ feels disordered gamblers should be aware of. The Council also suggests that these gamblers be mindful of the introduction of new housing complexes near the city's gambling casino zone. For example, The Showboat Hotel recently announced that it would be converting its 400 hotel rooms located on the Boardwalk into 264 market-rate rental units.2 According to a study conducted by independent research company Spectrum Gaming Group, living within 10 miles of a casino is associated with a 90 percent increase in the odds of being a problem or disordered gambler.

Anyone who would like more information on treatment and rehabilitation options for those with a sports gambling problem in Vineland or anyplace else in NJ can visit the CCGNJ's website today at https://800gambler.org/.
CCGNJ Addresses Potential Consequences of Real-Time Data for in-Game Sports Betting

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/14/2018 -- The world of sports betting is evolving quickly. As America's four major sports leagues race to ink sports betting partnerships, sports data providers are looking to cash in on the action as well. According to a recent report by ESPN Staff Writer David Purdum, sportsbooks across the country will have access to real-time data during NBA games, which is expected to deliver an innovative betting experience for sports fans.

This news comes after the NHL announced its partnership with MGM Resorts, a deal that also includes cutting-edge game data including player and puck-tracking technologies. This agreement will give sportsbooks access to real-time game data, which, in turn, can allow them to create new and exciting in-game bets for fans.

The NBA announced a multi-year partnership in July with Sportradar and Genius Sports, two global leaders in sports data analytics and technologies. This deal will give sportsbooks access to in-game betting data, similar to the NHL's deal with MGM, tapping into a new and profitable market of sports betting.

"In-game betting is becoming very popular for sports fans," explains Neva Pryor, Executive Director of CCGNJ. "These bets can make a person believe they have more control over the outcome when in reality, the data lets sportsbooks set more competitive lines."

CCGNJ Urges Parents Not to Buy Lottery Tickets for Children This Holiday Season

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/14/2018 -- With the holidays approaching, the New Jersey Lottery (NJL) and the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ) have teamed up to warn parents of the potential dangers of gifting lottery tickets and scratch-offs to children. With the slogan, "'Tis the Season to Gift Responsibly. Lottery Is Not Child's Play," the NJL and the CCGNJ hope to spread awareness of this campaign and enlighten the public on the negative effects these gifts can have on children.

In a press conference held on November 29, 2018, James A. Carey, Acting Executive Director of the NJL, and Neva Pryor, Executive Director of CCGNJ, held a joint event to launch the "2018 Holiday Gifting Awareness Campaign."

As Carey explained in his opening remarks, "Research on youth gambling shows that the earlier a child begins gambling, the more likely they are to develop a gambling problem as an adult." Although many parents and family members seem to think gifting lottery tickets to children is harmless fun, this has shown to have a damaging long-term effect as these children grow up.

This holiday season, the NJL and CCGNJ encourage all adults to gift responsibly. "Parents and other adults should refrain from giving lottery tickets to minors," explained Pryor. "If you choose to give a lottery ticket as a present this holiday season, make sure you consider the age of the recipient and don't give a lottery ticket to a child."

CCGNJ Examines the NHL's Sports-Betting Partnership with MGM Resorts International

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/13/2018 -- On Monday, October 29, 2018, the National Hockey League announced its new, multi-year agreement with MGM Sports International, becoming the second major professional sports league in the United States to ink a deal with the Las Vegas-based casino giant since sports gambling was legalized earlier this year.

The deal is non-exclusive, meaning the NHL can make similar deals with other sportsbooks and grants MGM access to the league's intellectual properties including logos and branding materials. The agreement also reportedly includes the NHL's advanced game data and innovative player and puck tracking metrics, which is expected to bring interactive new betting opportunities that are specific to the sport.

While the official terms of the deal have not yet been released, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman announced that the league is not getting a cut of the gambling profits but will receive a fixed fee of an estimated $25 million over three years.

"This announcement by the NHL and MGM Resorts International can have a major impact in New Jersey, which has a large audience of hockey supporters," explained Neva Pryor, Executive Director of CCGNJ. "We know hockey fans are excited about the new betting possibilities. We want New Jersey residents to know that we are available to anyone whose gambling behaviors may get out of hand this hockey season."

CCGNJ Weighs in on MGM Resorts Gaming Partnership with the New York Jets

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/13/2018 -- October 31st, 2018 marks a very significant day in the history of sports betting in Atlantic City, as MGM Resorts International joins the New York Jets as their official gaming partner. The multi-year deal is a first of its kind and the most comprehensive and integrated partnership within the National Football League. While the deal with the Jets will not immediately benefit MGM Resorts' bottom line, the casino hopes to see more and more app downloads of its app over time.

MGM is the second resort in Atlantic City to unlock sports betting within its app. The deal between MGM and the Jets, which is more than just a casino sponsorship, includes a game coined "I Called It." The game will live exclusively within the Jets app and gives fans the opportunity to answer questions about what will happen in future Jets games. Although MetLife Stadium, the Jets' home turf, is in New Jersey where sports betting is legal, "I Called It" players are not allowed to wager; they can merely win prizes instead.

The deal between MGM and the Jets additionally includes in-stadium signage, access to the Jets' production studio (at the team's facility), various hospitality opportunities for Jet's season ticket holders, and much more.

Neva Pryor, the Executive Director of the CCGNJ, chimes in on the newfound partnership stating, "As both MGM and the Jets franchise look to increase their customer base and provide fans with a one-of-a-kind gaming experience, it could come with a cost. Myself, along with the rest of the CCGNJ, think that this new access to sports betting, even without any real wagers, may lead to an increase in the number of people with a sports gambling disorder in the state of New Jersey."

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/31/2018 -- As the New Jersey Atlantic City sports betting scene continues to explode, the newly opened Hard Rock Hotel & Casino AC is finally getting into the game with a sportsbook of their own. The Hard Rock AC is the seventh Atlantic City casino to launch a sportsbook where patrons will be able to wager on sports both at the physical casino location and on mobile apps.

Neva Pryor, the Executive Director of the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey, chimes in on the addition of yet another sportsbook to the state's many casinos, stating, "A new sportsbook means more betting opportunities for gamblers; however, the main solution is going to be vigilance. As long as we keep a watchful eye on each other, it could save many from going down the wrong path."

Prior to the Hard Rock AC obtaining a sportsbook, the hotel was only involved in sports betting in a licensing capacity. This is due to the branding partnership they had with the NFL, who named the Miami Dolphins football stadium the Hard Rock Stadium. However, as of October 12, 2018, the hotel has contracted with the Gaming Innovation Group for the provision of an omnichannel sportsbook.

It may have taken the Hard Rock AC a little longer than its neighbors to institute a full-blown sportsbook into their casino, but if all goes as planned, the sportsbook is slated to be live for customers sometime in the fourth quarter of this year.

The CCGNJ Discusses the State of Sports Gambling in New Jersey After Staggering Revenue in Opening Months

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/31/2018 -- It has been four months since the State of New Jersey legalized sports gambling, and the results are staggering. With sports fans participating online, in casinos, and at a variety of other locations throughout the state, sportsbooks in NJ have seen tremendous revenue from the industry.

In just the first few weeks since betting on sports became legal in New Jersey, the state has seen a steady rise in monthly wagers. In the first 17 days alone, from mid-June to the end of the month, the state reported $16.4 million in wagers and a little less than $3.5 million in revenue, according to a report released by Legal Sports Report. The same sports report disclosed July and August sports betting wagers and revenues. July saw just under $4 million in revenue from five casino operators, where August saw nearly double that with around $9 million in revenue from eight casino operators.

In September, wagers and revenues increased once again, with more than $184 million in wagers placed on sports gambling in the state. From these bets, New Jersey casinos and racetracks made over $11 million in revenue, while online sports gambling revenues eclipsed $12.5 million, according to the UNLV Center for Gaming Research.

The Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey sees the benefits the tax revenue can bring while reminding sports gamblers of the dangers of problem gambling behaviors. "Sports gambling is not inherently bad or dangerous," explains Neva Pryor, Executive Director of the CCGNJ, "but it does expose new audiences to gambling, which will inevitably lead to more disordered gamblers."

Although participating in sports betting in Atlantic City or anywhere else in the state does not mean a person will develop a gambling problem, the CCGNJ wants everyone to understand and be able to recognize the warning signs of a gambling problem.

CCGNJ Discusses the Rise of eSports

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/03/2018 -- The CCGNJ wants New Jersey residents to be aware of the rise in popularity of competitive video gaming, otherwise known as eSports. It is proving to be a very profitable market for both gamers and investors alike. The eSports and competitive gaming industry is currently valued at approximately $900 million and is showing no signs of slowing down; And with the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) no longer in effect, businesses, fans, game publishers, and individuals across the nation are ready to take full advantage of everything eSports has to offer — including gambling.

Whether it's gambling at the casino, making bets at the horse track or joining a friend's fantasy football league, every type of gambling comes with the potential to get out of hand, and eSports gambling in Monmouth County is no exception. However, with eSports betting currently illegal in the state of New Jersey, the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey is particularly concerned about the exciting and lucrative allure it has, especially to the younger demographic.

Neva Pryor, the Council's Executive Director, weighs in stating, "Right now, the eSports betting market lacks any form of a regulatory body, which makes it easy for any entity or individual to participate. Although the eSports Integrity Coalition (ESIC) has been tasked with keeping an eye on this growing eSports industry, the nation as a whole runs the risk of more underage betting and a possible increase of disordered gambling problems."

While the future of eSports and gambling in the Meadowlands and the rest of New Jersey is still unclear, the CCCNJ does not foresee it going away anytime soon, legal or not.

The CCGNJ Weighs in on Ocean Resort Casino Joining the Internet Gambling Market

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/09/2018 -- Just a few short weeks ago, Atlantic City welcomed two new casinos, the Hard Rock Casino and Ocean Resort Casino. Ocean Resort has opened up shop inside of the former Revel, which had been closed due to poor economic activity in 2014. However, with AC sports betting and internet gambling steadily on the rise, it was clear that the Ocean Resort Casino wanted a piece of the internet gambling pie.

Effective June 27th, 2018 the Ocean Resort Casino launched its own internet gambling site, www.oceanonlinecasino.com, and it is New Jersey's 27th legal gambling platform. The new gambling site approval comes after the state's Division of Gaming Enforcement testing and evaluating the casino's systems.

Chief Executive Officer of The Ocean Resort's internet platform partner, GAN, Dermot Smurfit goes on to say, "The availability of an online casino at The Ocean Resort will bring in an additional 10 to 15 percent of revenue, while also leveraging a potential younger customer base."

Neva Pryor, Executive Director of the CCGNJ, would like to add, "Although the opening of two brand new casinos is a very exciting time for Atlantic City and the state, myself and The Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey encourages residents to gamble responsibly and reach out for help if needed."

Last year, internet gambling in Atlantic City casinos brought in almost a quarter of a million dollars in revenue. If this year is anything like last year, New Jersey can expect to bring in a substantial amount of revenue due to the revival of Atlantic City and the increase in internet gambling.

The CCGNJ Discusses the Potential Dangers of FanDuel Group's New Online Casino

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/08/2018 -- Fantasy sports giant, FanDuel Group, has announced that it will launch an internet casino in the state of New Jersey in addition to the brick-and-mortar location it recently opened at the Meadowlands Racetrack in NJ to offer sports betting. As a non-profit organization that helps those with a gambling problem get the help they need to recover, the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey sees the potential dangers the new online casino could pose for New Jersey residents and warns gamblers across the state to use caution when gambling online.

There has been a recent revival of gambling in the state of New Jersey since the legalization of sports gambling earlier this year. With a sizeable new gambling market on the table, companies are racing to stake their claim. Two new casinos have opened this summer in Atlantic City, and a new sportsbook has opened at the Meadowlands Racetrack in NJ which attracted many sports gamblers in its opening weekend.

Residents of New Jersey can expect to see and hear many more gambling advertisements in the near future and possibly a noticeable increase in the number of friends and family members taking part in the gambling excitement. While the act of gambling is not inherently evil, many gamblers can quickly find themselves in troubling situations as a gambling disorder develops. With the opening of the new online casino by FanDuel Group, New Jersey will have access to gambling at the touch of a button, which could lead many to unknowingly develop a damaging gambling habit.

"Online gambling presents many dangers that one does not face in the casino," explains Neva Pryor, Executive Director of the CCGNJ. "With the casino at their fingertips, people can decide to gamble in an instant, which can lead to riskier and more frequent gambling behaviors."

With gambling in New Jersey becoming more prevalent, people are encouraged to pay attention for signs of a gambling disorder in themselves and others, and to contact the free, confidential hotline of the CCGNJ at 800-GAMBLER for help.

The CCGNJ Discusses the Dangers of Sports Gambling in New Jersey

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/27/2018 -- With sports betting now legal in the Meadowlands of NJ and across the entire state of New Jersey, the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey is sharing its insight on the potential dangers of sports gambling and how an innocent betting habit can quickly turn into disordered gambling. Sports fans across the state should be aware of the risks of sports-related gambling, so if they or a loved one begin showing signs of disordered gambling, they can seek help as soon as possible.

After the United States Supreme Court eliminated the 1992 federal ban on sports gambling, states were free to permit it beginning in June 2018. With New Jersey on the forefront of this push for legislative change, the state was prepared to begin accepting sports bets quicker than most states. The excitement surrounding the ruling combined with the opening of new casinos in Atlantic City that accept sports betting has led to a substantial increase in gambling activities across the state.

With so many sports fans now placing wagers on their teams, gambling has reached a wide, new audience. This poses dangers for individuals and families across the state. "Not only are a large number of sports fans expected to begin gambling, but the fact that they will be able to do it online and via mobile devices creates the potential for gambling habits to form quickly," explained Neva Pryor, Executive Director of the CCGNJ.

If a person notices signs of disordered gambling, like placing large bets or routinely borrowing money, he or she should contact CCGNJ immediately at 800-GAMBLER or https://800Gambler.org/.

The CCGNJ Discusses Mental Health and Suicide Among Problem Gamblers

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/02/2018 -- For decades, the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ) has been helping those battling gambling and alcohol disorders, which are sometimes referred to as addictions, in Trenton as well as the rest of New Jersey. Although their efforts have made significant strides in recent years, the organization has noticed an increasing number of disordered gamblers who admit to having suicidal thoughts on a regular basis. While there are many resources available that help those struggling with self-destructive thoughts and behaviors, connecting those people with the resources they need has proven to be a challenge. Therefore, the CCGNJ is encouraging anyone with a friend, family member, or colleague who is exhibiting suicidal behaviors, to contact 800-GAMBLER for help.

The CCGNJ offers helpful resources to those struggling with disordered gambling, including sports betting in Atlantic City. Through supportive help meetings, online literature, lectures, workshops, and more, this non-profit organization helps disordered gamblers to not only set forth on the road to recovery but also to remain there.

Over the years, it has become apparent that disordered gambling is often not the only health condition plaguing most problem gamblers. In many cases, they also suffer from mental health problems, including suicidal thoughts and tendencies. As an organization dedicated to helping disordered gamblers recover and live a healthy lifestyle once again, the CCGNJ understands the importance of treating both their gambling disorder as well as their mental health.

Voicing her thoughts on this issue, Neva Pryor, Executive Director of the CCGNJ said, "Because suicidal tendencies only exacerbate the problems of a disordered gambler, we're encouraging those with loved ones who exhibit suicidal behaviors to contact our helpline, 800-GAMBLER for help."

Many people who display signs of suicidal thoughts and tendencies are hesitant to make the first move, which is why the CCGNJ is asking friends and family members of disordered gamblers to encourage seeking help.
The CCGNJ Addresses Public Stigma of Problem Gambling

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/26/2018 -- There is a public stigma surrounding problem <a class="extlink" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" title="gambling and alcohol use disorder (also referred to as "addiction") in Trenton" href="https://800gambler.org/substance-dependence-gambling-problem-in-new-jersey/">gambling and alcohol use disorder (also referred to as "addiction") in Trenton, NJ, and elsewhere in the state. Labeling, stereotyping, and making assumptions about those trying to overcome a gambling disorder has an adverse effect for those in need of help, which is why the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey is speaking out.

By raising public awareness of the struggles problem gamblers face and the negative effects of stigmatizing disordered gambling, the CCGNJ hopes to inspire public action to help those in need instead of condemning them.

While gambling itself has been normalized in modern society and is socially acceptable, disordered gambling has a profoundly negative public stigma that can deter and delay recovery for problem gamblers. Because the title of so-called "gambling addiction" has such an unfriendly connotation, gamblers are less willing to admit they have a problem, which delays help and magnifies the problem.

"The stigmatization of problem gambling is a battle we at the CCGNJ are trying to combat," explains Neva Pryor, Executive Director of the CCGNJ. "When a person with a gambling disorder gets labeled as an 'addict,' they are often perceived as irresponsible and untrustworthy, which can destroy close relationships, alienating the person and amplifying the problem."

Instead of stereotyping problem <a class="extlink" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" title="gambling and alcohol use disorder with negative terms like "addiction," the CCGNJ encourages family members and friends of gamblers in Woodbridge" href="https://800gambler.org/substance-dependence-gambling-problem-in-new-jersey/">gambling and alcohol use disorder with negative terms like "addiction," the CCGNJ encourages family members and friends of gamblers in Woodbridge and elsewhere in New Jersey to speak up when they notice signs of disordered gambling and advocate for them to seek help.

The Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey offers help meeting directories for those seeking support in recovery and offers other valuable resources on their website, https://800gambler.org/.
The CCGNJ Observes Men's Health Month

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/11/2018 -- The Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ) recognizes Men's Health Month, a congressionally-supported health education initiative celebrated through health fairs, media appearances, health information dissemination, and other outreach activities. With the goal of increasing awareness of preventable men's health issues and encouraging early detection and treatment, Men's Health Month shares many core values of the CCGNJ, which is why the Council is observing and actively participating in the cause.

With support from the White House, Congress, and state and local governments, Men's Health Month encourages policy makers, health care providers, members of the media, and everyone else to spread awareness of common men's health problems and promote early detection and treatment to men and boys alike.

The CCGNJ understands men's health issues and how disordered sports betting in the NJ Meadowlands can complicate these problems. As an organization designed to support populations of disordered gamblers and guide them on the road to recovery, the CCGNJ sees first-hand the consequences of neglected men's health issues, which is why the company feels so strongly about supporting this particular health initiative.

"When a person develops a gambling disorder, they are less likely to seek medical attention due to a lack of money and as a side effect of depression," explains Neva Pryor, Executive Director of the CCGNJ. "During Men's Health Month, we hope to spread awareness of this issue, so we can help those in need before their health deteriorates."

The CCGNJ Discusses the Importance of Mental Health During National Women's Health Week

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/17/2018 -- National Women's Health Week is here, and the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ) is taking time to discuss just how important it is for women to make their health a priority, especially their mental health.

The CCGNJ has seen that frequently a sports gambling problem in Monmouth, NJ will coexist with other disorders such as anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder. This non-profit organization encourages women to seek treatment during National Women's Health Week.Women across the nation recognize this week as a time to celebrate their health and build positive health habits for both their physical and mental being.

Some positive health habits to consider include getting the right amount of sleep, drinking plenty of water, practicing positive coping skills to deal with stress, and, most importantly, reaching out for help when needed.

The CCGNJ is aware of the public's stigmatization on women's disordered sports and other gambling in Atlantic City and hopes that one day this stigma will no longer exist.

"It really is a shame that the social stigma plays such a huge role in a person's decision on whether or not to seek treatment for their gambling disorder," commented Neva Pryor, Executive Director of the CCGNJ. "The negative perception that goes along with being a woman and a problem gambler is the leading reason why women fail to get the help they need."

National Women's Health Week is the perfect time for women dealing with disordered gambling to seek help. People can call the CCGNJ's 24/7 hotline at 800-GAMBLER for the assistance and support they need today.
Those suffering from mental health disorders and disordered illegal sports betting in New Jersey (or any other type of problem gambling behavior) should reach out to the CCGNJ for help as soon as possible.

There is a complex relationship between mental health and behavioral disorders like problem gambling. In many cases, a person who suffers from prolonged disordered gambling is more likely to also suffer from a mental illness. According to a 1998 study by the American Journal of Public Health (AJPH), problem gamblers are at an increased risk for antisocial personality disorder, alcohol use disorder, tobacco dependence, and other psychiatric diagnoses.

There are a number of organizations dedicated to helping people with worsening mental health. Mental Health America (MHA) and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) are two of the nation's largest mental health support organizations dedicated to helping those affected by mental illness rebuild their lives.

The CCGNJ is continuing its support of public health initiatives by supporting disordered gamblers in New Jersey who also suffer from mental illness. By providing essential information and holding group meetings that create a support system for those affected, the CCGNJ helps disordered gamblers understand the severity of their situation and regain control of their lives.

"We want to not only help those with a gambling disorder but those who are living with mental illness as well," explains Neva Pryor, Executive Director of the CCGNJ. "If we ignore mental health, which in many cases precedes a gambling habit, we are missing a critical opportunity to halt disordered gambling before it begins."

The CCGNJ Provides Insight on Gambling Trends and Legislation in the State of New Jersey

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/04/2018 -- The Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ), an organization dedicated to supplying support, treatment, and hope for those dealing with a gambling disorder, provides insight on the latest gambling trends and legislation taking place New Jersey.

These topics include the rise of regulated online gambling, whether or not there will be sports betting in the NJ Meadowlands this year, and how New Jersey is currently the state with the most legal gambling avenues in the nation.

This year has marked four consecutive years of growth for the online gambling sector in New Jersey. Online gambling was launched in November of 2013, and revenues have surpassed the $245 million mark since then. With numerous players constantly joining the online gambling arena, the CCGNJ doesn't see this form of gambling slowing down anytime soon.

In addition to the rise of online gambling, New Jersey has also recently challenged the legality of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) in hopes to be the fifth state to enter the legalized sports betting market. The US Supreme Court is expected to reach their verdict in June, and if their decision sways in favor of the state, just about every type of gambling will then be legal.

"It is the primary goal of the CCGNJ not only to educate the public on these trending issues but also to offer extensive resources that disordered gamblers can use to get help," says Neva Pryor, Executive Director of the CCGNJ. She adds, "The CCGNJ is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week via phone at 1-800-GAMBLER, text, or our website."

The CCGNJ Sheds Light on the Health and Social Costs of Disordered Gambling in America

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/04/2018 -- The Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ) discusses the health and social costs of disordered gambling in America in its latest blog post: "The Health and Social Costs of Disordered Gambling in America."

The article shines a light on a range of consequences associated with disordered gambling, including unhealthy behaviors and damaged relationships with family and friends. Anyone struggling with <a class="extlink" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" title="gambling and alcohol use disorders (sometimes referred to as "addiction") in Vineland, NJ" href="https://800gambler.org/substance-dependence-gambling-problem-in-new-jersey/">gambling and alcohol use disorders (sometimes referred to as "addiction") in Vineland, NJ, or anywhere else is encouraged to contact the CCGNJ at 1-800-GAMBLER for help.

Disordered gambling can negatively impact a person's life in many ways. Socially, problem gamblers struggle to maintain relationships with family and friends. Borrowing money from relatives and friends on a regular basis can lead to social isolation and permanently damage relationships. Disordered gamblers also have difficulties retaining employment stemming from a lack of motivation affecting their productivity at work.

These social consequences impact a disordered gambler's life significantly and can lead to unhealthy behaviors that, in turn, affect their loved ones and the community at large. These destructive habits can multiply a disordered gambler's economic struggles and can affect personal relationships as part of a vicious downward spiral.

"When a disordered gambler adopts other unhealthy behavior like disordered substance use, it can alter their lifestyle dramatically and permanently damage already weakened relationships," explains Neva Pryor, Executive Director of the CCGNJ.

Those struggling with <a class="extlink" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" title="gambling and alcohol use disorder (sometimes called "alcohol addiction") in Camden, NJ" href="https://800gambler.org/substance-dependence-gambling-problem-in-new-jersey/">gambling and alcohol use disorder (sometimes called "alcohol addiction") in Camden, NJ, should reach out to the CCGNJ at 1-800-GAMBLER for help as soon as possible.
